Chapter 13: Hauntings

Sorry for any mistakes, I'm to tired to proofread this very well.

-----------------
Adam's POV

"Alright Adam" Seto sighed "Just focus on the candle and try to light it."

I gave a small nod and looked down at the table in front of me where a small unlit candle sat in a metal bowl. We were back in the library and were just going over more offensive spells now, but starting small. I would've like to go bigger but after last time I did, I decided not to object.

I took a deep breath and held a my palm out towards the candle and concentrated, thinking on what Seto said 'Imagine your magic is like water inside you, flowing freely. Now try and focus it down to your hand, have it move to your will. It's stronger if you use your emotions to fuel it, but don't overdo it. It's best to try using good, happy memories or emotions. Anger and fear are powerful and can be useful in stressful situations. But it's also very unpredictable and unstable if used incorrectly.'

I tried focusing like he said, using memories from when the team was together, but all that did was remind me that Ty was in danger, I couldn't just stand around when he was in trouble!

A small yellow flame sparked in my hand before growing in size and intensity to the point where I had to curl my hand it a fist to stop it going wild.

Seto watched and was quiet for a moment before sighing "Adam? I know you're worried, I am too. But it's been three days already, you letting that worry take over you has not and will not help anything. You know that."

"I'm sorry Seto. But I can't focus." I muttered, sitting down and leaning forward on the table, putting my head in my hands "I just don't see any point to this. I should be helping you look for information to find Ty. Not pulling you away from that to teach me party tricks."

Seto didn't reply for a moment before sitting down across from me "Adam, I have spells scouring the library for information as we speak. Even if we find a way to the Heart, you are in no condition to fight. Not until you get your magical stamina up at least a little bit. Your magic is a part of you now. No matter how much you hate it, you can't deny it. If I wanted to teach to party tricks, I'd be teaching you to pull a rabbit out of a hat, or how to turn yourself into a cat or something. Not teaching you elemental magic."

When he finished speaking, he held up his in front of him nodded to me to look. As I did, a bright ball of purple fire appeared floating in his hand. It floated up for a moment before Seto moved his hand outwards in a swift moment which caused it to soar up and down the aisle, brushing over the unlit candle and lighting the wick up in purple fire.

Seto curled his hand into a fist and the fireball spluttered out in midair, leaving only a small trail of white smoke "Fire is a powerful element, if you can at least start to control it, then we're on the right track at least."

I looked up at him "Are you sure about this?" I asked

"Adam, you won't get better unless you try." Seto said, his face stern as he extinguished the candle with his fingers, the flame not bothering him in the slightest.

I looked down at the candle and swallowed holding out my hand as he tried to focus an orb of fire. I thought about when I first met Ty, while it was stressful it brought a smile to my face mentally.

As I focused, a small fire formed in my hand and it drifted towards the candle, maybe I could finally get this. Just a little bit further...

'You know if you let your emotions go a little bit, you'd make a lot more process...'

I yelped and my hands jolted from shock as I looked around, trying to see where the voice had come from, and more importantly, why the hell he of all people was talking.

Seto helped and quite suddenly hit the floor as I realised I'd lost control of the fireball, the magic flying wildly around the room before impacting on the bookshelf where Seto had been before. The explosion left a large flaming hole in the shelf.

Seto pushed himself up and looked at the hole, then at me, then back at the hole, then me again.

I winced slightly at the sight of the hole. I couldn't focus, my mind was racing. Had I imagined it? I needed a minute to breathe.

"Adam what happened?!" Seto demanded, not so much angry but confused and shocked "You were doing so well! I really thought you were really going to get it this time."

"I-I'm so sorry Seto! I... I need to use the bathroom." I managed out, hurriedly leaving the library and locking myself in the nearest bathroom.

Turning on the faucet, I cupped some water into my hands and splashed my face "Ok Adam." I told myself quietly as I looked at the water "It's just in your head, you're just stressed out and worried like Seto says."

'Ok, telling yourself 'It's all in your head' isn't going to make me go away.' Herobrine muttered.

"Shut up..." I hissed angrily in reply "Can't you bother someone else?!"

'No. And if I were you, I'd stop talking out loud if I were you. You sound crazy.'

I grit my teeth at that as I turned off the water but kept looking at the drain as the last of the water slipped through it 'What do you want?' I demanded silently to him.

'I already told you in your dream idiot. I'm here to help you... Somewhat... Call it moral support.'

'Great. So you're gonna be my little conscious? Give me life advice when I need it?' I asked sarcastically.

'Laugh all you want. But given how you almost fried your friend, I'd listen to me.'

'Listen to you? Look you may have told me where Ty is but that means nothing right now. Frankly I never would've had to go find him if you hadn't turned me-'

'Into Skybrine?' Herobrine suddenly asked with a laugh.

I didn't reply.

'Listen Adam. You can deny it all you like but you can't escape your past. It gets you nowhere. Whatever you think I did, you still are Skybrine."

I looked up in the mirror at that, seeing my yellow irises and wishing more than anything that they could be hall like they used to be, I could practically envision them being a cold white again.

I closed my eyes and looked down, whispering softly "That's not who I am anymore..."

'Like it or not, he's a part of you now. And he will always haunt you.' Was Herobrine's only reply.

'You know? If this is how you plan to help me, you are terrible at it...' I thought angrily.

'I'm flattered. Face it, with the state your magic is in, you need my help more than you like to admit.'

'I don't need you.'

'Tell that to Enderlox.'

I growled as I gripped the edge of the sink tightly, feeling a cracking sound but not caring 'I swear to Notch if you call him that one more time...'

'Answer me this Adam.' Herobrine demanded harshly 'Do you honestly think you can save your friend in this state? Do you?'

I scoffed at that, really not wanting to admit that he had a point. Frankly I'd probably just collapse again under the magical toll before I even saw the dragon.

'That's what I thought.'

'Stop reading my mind.'

'Then stop leaving it open to me.' Herobrine snarked back 'Lesson one, always keep your mind on guard. Anger does that easily, making you unpredictable, however you need to keep it always locked so others can't read your moves and motives.'

I growled as I stood up straight and shook my head, frowning as I heard a clicking sound and looking down at the sink. Looked like I'd gripped the marble sink tight enough to break a part of it off. But how is that possible?

'Lesson two.' Herobrine said in a tone that I could feel his smirk 'Know your strength. You need to realise your power and how far it's limits really are. Once you know that, you'll go much farther with practice.'

'But I am practicing...' I thought quietly as the picked up the marble chunks and threw them in the bin, leaving the bathroom.

'Not the right way though.' He replied simply 'Magic has different forms and it changes accord to the person and their alinement. Some magic is easier to control than others and trust me, you do not want to face magic that is more powerful and dangerous than it's user. Like your friend.'

'What?' I demanded with a frown.

'Nothing. You'll find out soon enough. Kind of like right now...'

Before I could ask him what he meant, a recruit suddenly rushed town the hallway hurriedly "General Sky!"

I blinked in surprise and quickly frowned at the sight of his distress "Yes? What's wrong?" I asked as I walked with him.

"The storage room. On the first floor. It's been destroyed." The boy said with a worried look.

I blinked at him in confusion for a moment before my eyes widened, that room was where we kept many important items especially rare ones Seto needed for his spells and potions. Not only were half of them rare, but quite dangerous in the wrong hands.

"Inform the rest of the team especially Seto! But keep this quiet, we can't start another panic." I told the recruit, who nodded timidly as he rushed off the find the rest of Team Crafted.

Once he was gone I sighed and began to head for the storage room, biting my lip at the final words Hero said to me for the time being.

'I did warn you... Darker forces are at work around you.... Lesson three Adam...' Herobrine warned.

'Watch your back...'
