Emerald

Steven was walking around Beach City, just to walk, nothing Special. He said hello to friends like Ronaldo and Lars. He walked out of Beach City, and sat down in Onion's Forest.

"Ah, it's nice here. No people, no crazy gems, nothing..." He closed his eyes and started to doze off. He started dreaming, he was trapped inside a black room.

"Help... Me..." A voice wheezed. Steven snapped awake.

"Hello?" He called. "Is anyone here? I heard you in my dream!" He started searching around. He couldn't hear anything. He started to get lost. "Hello?!" Then he saw it. A large cone shaped spaceship. He gulped. "Hello?" He pressed his hand on the entrance and it opened. The inside was dark, and there was a strange green glow coming from the inside. Steven cautiously walked inside. He walked over to the glow, and saw it was coming from some rubble. He moved it, and found a rectangular green gem. After he had picked it up, it began reforming. The gem lifted up, and became a gem he'd never seen before.

"Ugh.." She said. She looked at Steven. "Who are you?" Steven started sweating.

"I'm, uh, Steven." The gem had a pale bandana with Pink, Yellow, Blue, and White triangles on it. She was short, like a Ruby, and had a long neck, similar to a Lapis or Pearl. She was dressed in typical Homeworld Gem attire. "Who are you?"

"I'm Emerald...." She struggled. "I can't remember much else..." Steven smiled.

"Well, welcome to Earth!" He laughed.

"Earth, I remember being sent here to... To... Well, who cares. Nice to meet you Steven!" She smiled, and Steven took her back to Beach City.

"This is Beach City!" Steven exclaimed.

"Wow... The, 'Onion's Forest' was so green, and here is so white, and bright! Earth is so much different then Homeworld..." Emerald said amazed.

"Just wait 'till you meet the Crystal Gems!" Emerald's eyes went dark for a second.

"The Crystal Gems..." Steven started to worry.

"Emerald?" She snapped out of it.

"Yes, Steven?" Steven was shaken up.

"Never mind. Let's get back to the Temple." Emerald was an amazement to the people of Beach City, and they were stopped a few times before they got to the Temple.

"Hey Steven!" Ronaldo yelled to him. "Who's that? Are they here to take down the government?" Steven laughed.

"No, this is Emerald, she's a gem!" Ronaldo came over and inspected her.

"Hmmm... Okay, but if she tries to take control of your mind," He whispered. "Call me!" Steven looked at him weirdly.

"Uh-huh..." They walked away from him quickly.

"Who was that?" Emerald asked.

"Oh that was Ronaldo, he's a human. He has this blog called "Keep Beach City Weird!", he looks for the weirdness in the world, and blogs it. He's cool." Emerald nodded.

"I see, so he helps keep record on the weirdness." Steven scratched the back of his head.

"I guess so..." Homeworld gems weren't accustomed to Earth culture. They walked along to the Temple. When they got there, Emerld gawked at it in amazement.

"Wow, this is huge!" She looked around it, taking it all in.

"It is pretty cool, but just wait 'till you get inside!" Steven took her over to the door, and inside was greeted by Amethyst.

"'Sup Steven, oh hey, who's the new gem? Kinda looks like Peridot..."

"Oh this is Emerald! Emerald, this is Amethyst!" They walked over to each other and shook hands.

"Hey E, welcome to Earth!"

"Hello Amethyst, and my name is Emerald, not 'E'." Amethyst looked confused and sighed.

"Right, of course..." Amethyst looked at Steven, and he shrugged. "Let me show you around." She took her over to the Warp Pad, and they warped to the Ruins. "This is the Ruins, it's where Pearl trains Steven and Connie. You can train here too!"

"I haven't fought in a long time, how exciting!" They moved on. This time they warped to the Homeworld Pads.

"These are the Homeworld Warp Pads, this is where gems can warp back to Homeworld. Or, used to at least..." Emerald stared at the pads.

"So these lead back to Homeworld? I remember something about that..." She continued staring at them.

"Anyways... Let's get back to the Temple!" Amethyst said nervously. Emerald stared at the pads for a second before getting up. "Hey Steven" Amethyst whispered.

"Yeah?"

"Do you think she's safe, like not a Homeworld gem who wants to kill you?" Steven looked at her then closed his eyes.

"I think she's safe for now. Everyone deserves a chance... Besides, not all Homeworld gems want that." Amethyst sighed.

"You're the boss. Let's get back." They warped back to the Temple.

"Hey Emerald, do you want to see something cool?" Steven said, trying to lighten everything up.

"Sure, what is it?" Steven smiled and led her upstairs to his room.

"This," He said. " Is a T.V.! You can watch shows and play video games!" Emerald looked at it in amazement.

"Wow... Uh, what are those?" Steven laughed.

"Let me show you!" He turned it on, and The Crying Breakfast Friends, was on.

"This is The Crying Breakfast Friends, it's pretty good. We also have video games, like the Lonely Blade franchise, it's kinda confusing, but it's still pretty good!" Emerald looked at the screen, awestruck by Earth things.

"I can't believe that simple Earth creatures could create things, almost on an equal level to the Diamond's technology... Amazing..." Steven scratched the back of his head.

"Well, I guess it is pretty cool..." At that moment, Garnet and Pearl walked in the door.

"Hey P, Garnet. Steven brought home a new gem, Emerald. She's up there." Amethyst said. Pearl's eyes widened larger than her head.

"What?! A new gem! An Emerald too! Steven, why don't you introduce us!"

"Hm, I foresaw it being another Ruby, an Emerald works too I guess." Garnet walked up after Pearl, and Amethyst followed.

"So guys, this is Emerald, Emerald, this is Pearl and Garnet." Steven introduced.

"Hello there Garnet, is this your Pearl? She looks familiar." Pearl flushed with anger, but quickly got over it.

"No, Pearl is not mine. She isn't anybody's. She is free, all of us are." Emerald looked at her and at Pearl.

"Wait a minute, you don't look like an Emerald..." Pearl walked over to her, and started inspecting her. "Emeralds don't look anything like you! The only thing you seem to have in common is the gem and the skin color!" Emerald checked herself over.

"But I am an Emerald. I was created an Emerald." Pearl looked skeptical.

"Alright, I trust her. You can stay here, and tomorrow we will test out your fighting skills." Emerald nods, and they leave her alone with the T.V. The next day, Emerald and Steven waited for Pearl in the Ruins.

"So Steven, what exactly is a Crystal Gem?" Steven blushed with embarrassment, realizing he never told her.

"A Crystal Gem is someone who fights against Homeworld's tyranny. We keep Beach City, and the World safe from the clutches of Homeworld." Emerald was about to say something, but then Amethyst warped in.

"'Sup guys!"

"Amethyst!? What are you doing here?" Steven yelled, and ran over, Emerald following suit.

"Pearl wanted me to train Emerald this morning, important mission or something, I think she just wants to talk to that pink haired girl at the dance." Steven smirked. "But anyways, Emerald, let's see what you're made of, and we'll improve you, or something."

"Alright, I am ready!"

"Good..." Amethyst grinned evilly, and jumped in the air. As she did this, Emerald's gem glowed and shot out a green beam, scanning Amethyst from head to toe, highlighting the gem. It came back into her gem, and her gem stopped glowing. "What the heck?!" Amethyst was caught off guard by this, and fell to the ground. Emerald ginned, her face disturbingly forced to grin.

"Now it is my turn!" Her gem glowed, and she reached out to pull her weapon from it. She pulled the handle, and started sweating, the pain unimaginable. She was laughing, though the pain was so great. Eventually, she pulled out a whip, exactly like Amethyst's, but green.

"Woah..." Said Steven and Amethyst. Emerald lunged at Amethyst, and she jumped back. Emerald sliced at her, throwing the whip around madly.

"Girl, chill! You're acting insane!" Emerald kept attacking, panting as she did. She started pulling another whip out, causing excruciating pain. "You have to stop!" Emerald wrapped her up with both whips, and tore her in half, poofing her.

"There..." Emerald's whips disintegrated.

"Emerald, what have you done?!" Steven yelled. Emerald just walked over to Amethyst's gem, and bubbled it. "Emerald!" Steven charged at her, pulling out his shield.

"Steven, stop." Emerald put her hand out, in a way of telling him to stop. "Stop or else I will poof you too." Steven halted. He was crying.

"I trusted you! I thought you could be a friend!" Emerald watched him, heartless and unmoved.

"I remember my goal now. Capture the Crystal Gems and return their gems to the Diamonds. As a sign of mercy, I am letting you go." Steven stared at her, and then turned and ran back to the warp pad, crying all the way. He returned to the Temple.

"Garnet, get Pearl, Emerald... Emerald's turned on us!" Garnet ran over to him.

"Steven, you're crying! What happened, did she-" Steven nodded. Garnet looked in shock. She shook her head. "Never mind, we'll save her, but we need to get Pearl."

"Where is she?" Pearl was out fighting a corrupted gem near the beach. Steven and Garnet caught up to her.

"Pearl!" Steven cried out, before he noticed the monster. It was a flying gem monster, with a circular gem as its eye. It had two large feathery wings, and two smaller bat-like wings. It had a large jagged beak similar to centipeetle. It roared at them when they got there.

"Steven, I'm in the middle of something!" Pearl yelled out.

"Pearl, listen to Steven." Pearl looked at Garnet, and stopped blocking the creature. It flew up into the air, and watched them.

"What is it?" She asked, looking very concerned.

"It's Emerald, she's gone rouge..." He was ready to cry again. "She poofed Amethyst, it was scary..." Pearl looked very sad.

"Oh Steven, I'm so sorry. We'll get her, don't worry. But first, we have to take care of this corrupted gem, okay?" Steven nodded, and wiped away a tear. "Garnet?" Garnet nodded. They took hands and started dancing. They fused into Sardonyx.

"Alrighty! Let's take care of this, and finish the show off!" She summoned her hammer, and jumped up to the monster. "Terribly sorry, but!" She hit it down super hard. The monster croaked. "Ah ah ah! Just wait!" Sardonyx landed, and crushed the monster with the hammer, poofing it. "There we go!" She unfused, and  returned to Garnet and Pearl.

"Alright Steven, let's go." Pearl said. They ran back to the Temple, and warped to the Ruins. Emerald was gone, along with Amethyst's gem.

"Where did they go?" Steven asked, looking around. Suddenly he realized something. "She must have gone back to her ship! If she did, then she'll be coming back to the Temple!"

"What?" Pearl asked.

"Her plan, she mentioned it to me! She said she was made to take the Crystal Gems back to the Diamonds, poofed! She must have put Amethyst in her ship, and will be returning for you two!" Garnet and Pearl looked at each other.

"In that case, we better be prepared." Garnet said. They hopped back on the warp pad and warped to the Temple. There, they found Emerald, just about to get on the pad.

"I told you to leave, Steven." Emerald said, glaring them down. "You didn't listen."

"You poofed my friend, and you lied to me!" Steven yelled at her. "I thought I could trust you, but it looks like I was wrong!" Tears formed in his eyes.

"Where is Amethyst!" Pearl yelled at her. Emerald closed her eyes and her gem glowed.

"Pearl watch out!" Steven yelled, just as Garnet rushed forwards, and punched Emerald. Emerald flew and hit the wall.

"Get out of here!" Garnet yelled at them. They hesitated. "Now!" They nodded, and ran out.

"Pearl, do you think she can take her?" Pearl was silent for a moment.

"Yes, she's strong, and knows how to take care of other gems." She looked doubtful, but it was the only hope available. They ran out to the boardwalk, and waited there.

"Will she be here soon?"

"Steven, I told you, she's fine. Don't worry." Pearl said this, despite looking nervous and shaky. "Garnet will come out in a minute with her gem. Just wait and-"

"Pearl, look out!" Steven yelled, as Emerald came running to her, ready to poof her. Pearl jumped up, and summoned her spear.

"You traitor! Being poofed is the least horrible thing I'll do to you!" Pearl stabbed at her, and Emerald tried to punch at her. Her gem glowed, and shot out the beam, scanning Pearl.

"Pearl, she's going to take your weapon!" Steven yelled out, trying to help. 'What can I do to help...' Steven thought to himself. Pearl watched in horror and disgust as Emerald pulled out her spear, causing her pain.

"Oh my..." Pearl's face got more and more disturbed, the more Emerald's got insane. "What could this be..."

"Finally..." Emerald said, after the spear came out. "Now to destroy you!" She yelled and lunged at her. They vigorously fought each other. Pearl shot a laser at her, knocking Emerald back. But now she knew what it could do.

"Pearl-!" Steven yelled.

"Steven, be quiet! I have to focus!" Pearl yelled back, almost being impaled by Emerald.

"The Diamonds will be so proud of me, finally I'll be useful..." Her voice was getting more and more demented. She started to sound like multiple gems, all trying to talk at once. Her face scrunching up in a horrendous smile.

"Steven, get back..." Pearl said, as if she wanted him to get back from a dangerous snake. Steven stepped back slowly and quietly. Pearl closed her eyes, and then zapped Emerald with the lasers. She bombarded Emerald, as she tried blocking.

"Stop... Please..." She said, quietly. "It hurts..." Pearl was taken aback by this, and slipped up, allowing Emerald to pierce her.

"Pearl!" Steven cried.

"Steven, ugh, get away!" She yelled, before she poofed. Emerald bubbled her, and now had three green bubbles behind her. Steven watched, shedding a tear.

"The last one..." Emerald seemed both ecstatic and depressed at the same time. Steven ran off into the forest. He started to cry, overwhelmed with sadness. All the gems poofed. Emerald turned on him. He stopped. He knew that he had to face his fear. That was his mission, to save the gems.

"What can I do?" He said aloud in the forest. He heard Emerald walking by, and hid. She walked through the forest, back to her ship. 'That's it!' He thought. 'I will unbubble them, and stop Emerald!' His plan was simple, but it gave him hope. He followed Emerald back to her ship, and snuck inside. It was still dark, but he could see the bubbles.

"What will the Diamonds think, after I have finally returned?" Emerald said to herself. "Will they accept me back?" She looked at the controls of her ship, not noticing Steven getting at the bubbles. He unbubbled Amethyst, Sapphire and Ruby, and Pearl. Amethyst quickly reformed.

"Steven!" She yelled, embracing him. "Where's that creep Em-" She turned and saw her staring right at them. "Oh..."

"How dare you! I spared you, and this is how you repay my mercy!" Emerald stared them down. Sapphire and Ruby reformed.

"Where is she!" Ruby yelled, glaring at Emerald. "There..."

"Ruby, calm down, just fuse, we'll be strong enough then..." Sapphire said calmly. Ruby and Sapphire took hands, and fused back into Garnet.

"Now, let's kick her butt!" Amethyst yelled.

"You all don't understand... Why I'm doing this... Neither do I..." They paused, and looked confused.

"What?" Steven said. "What's going on?"

"Never mind... Here, leave, and I will face the Diamonds on my own. I never wanted to hurt anyone, it's all their fault..." She was delicate with her words.

"We can help you, you can join us!" Steven offered.

"No, I can't. Just leave me, let me go..." Steven hesitated, but nodded.

"Come on guys, let's leave her." Amethyst looked like she was about to protest, but gave it up.

"Thank you, for helping me..." Emerald said to Steven. They turned, and walked out. Steven looked back, and Emerald held up her hand. She closed her eyes, and shed a tear, before she poofed herself. Her gem then bubbled itself. Steven looked at it with his mouth open.

"Steven, leave her." Garnet said. "This is her choice." He was pulled out of the doorway, just as it closed, and the ship started to rumble. It took off into space a few seconds later.

--------A few months of space travel later--------

Emerald's ship arrived at Yellow Diamond's arm ship.

"My Diamond, a ship has arrived, shall we let it in?" Yellow Pearl told her.

"Yes, it has been a slow day today, it shouldn't be much." Yellow Diamond replied. Yellow Pearl walked over to the controls, and let Emerald's ship in. They both recognized it instantly.

"My Diamond, it's Experiment 1282's ship! She has returned!" Yellow Pearl cried out.

"What a surprise, and I thought it would be boring! Bring her out guards." Yellow Diamond said to her Amethyst guards. Two of them walked in, and brought out her bubbled gem. "Unbubble her." They nodded, and one of them unbubbled her, before both of them stepped away. Emerald began to reform.

"Where am I..." She said, and then looked up at Yellow Diamond. "My Diamond!" She said, springing up, and saluting. "I-"

"Silence." Yellow Diamond said, her voice ringing throughout her ship. "Where are the rouge gems?"

"Yes, I... Um... I did not retrieve a single Crystal Gem-"

"What did you say?" Yellow Diamond said.

"I didn't retrieve a single Crystal Gem..." Yellow Diamond's face grew furious. She was never this angry, except when...

"I gave you 60,000 years to do this, and you failed! 60,000! Pearl! Bring me the shattering device!" Yellow Pearl gulped, and Emerald started to panic.

"Yes my Diamond..." Yellow Pearl said, running off, terrified.

"Wait, no, no, no! You can-!"

"Are you protesting against your Diamond! I created you from three gems, and this is how you repay me! You should have been deformed like the others!" Emerald was in shock.

"What?" She said dumbfounded. "I-I'm not an Emerald!" Yellow Diamond glared her down.

"You never where, and never will be." She said.

"That, that can't be!  I have the gem and-"

"Silence!" Yellow Diamond yelled again. Yellow Pearl ran up again with a strange device. It had a long point, and a boxy hold. There was a button at the end that would extend the point into a gem, shattering them. "Pearl, shatter this gem."

"Y-yes my Diamond..." Yellow Pearl was sweating, fear creeping over her. She walked up to Emerald, held out the device, and prepared to shatter.

"Please, stop!" Emerald cried out in vain. Yellow Pearl pressed the button and closed her eyes. The point shot forward, and hit her gem. Emerald screamed.

"Stop it please!" Yellow Pearl opened her eyes, and stepped away, before running off to put the device away. Emerald's form shifted.

"You are made up of three gems, so this'll take quite some time..." Emerald became a Ruby. Then she shifted into a Laps. Then into an Peridot. She shifted between these three, sometimes merging them together. Random arms and legs came out, as she shifted to look more like a forced gem fusion.

"Help... Me... Please... My... Diamond..." She managed. Finally she broke apart, shards falling on the ground.

"Pearl, clean this up."

"Yes, my Diamond."
