Chapter 6

A/N: So, just to clarify. The world in this story is kind of like "The Walking Dead", in which there is no prior concept or media about "zombies". This is why it's so much more of a shock to the characters because they're truly lost as to what is going on. Anyways, enjoy the chapter!

P.S. - Please, please, PLEASE start playing the song above before you start reading. I wanted to experiment with adding music into my stories and I think I found the perfect one for the chapter. Don't screw yourself over and miss out, it's an awesome song. Ok you can read now lol

Angie Foster

"I think...they might be ok," Angie sighs and turns to Adam, an exhausted smile on her face. Her brother looked traumatized but relieved as well that their parents' convulsing had finally stopped. The two siblings sat on the ground near their parents, who had started to stir.

Their mother begins to sit up, her eyes opening and glancing around the room.

"How are you feeling?" Angie asks. Her mother doesn't respond. Instead, she fixates her eyes on Adam.

Something's not right.

Angie looks closer at her mother's face, particularly her eyes. Angie had always been fond of her bright green eyes, and had gotten them from her mother. But her mother's irises seemed...dimmed. Almost a gray tone, the green hue having vanished and been replaced by something new and not as luminous. It could be the lighting of the lounge, but this small detail sets Angie on edge. Their mother's gaze remains locked on Adam, who has started to back away slightly.

"Mom. How are you feeling?" Angie asks again, her voice sounding more stern. It was almost as if she didn't hear Angie. The woman starts to reach for Adam, both of them still on the ground.

"Stop that, you're starting to freak me out Mom," Adam stands up and moves back farther. Angie scrambles to her feet, as their father starts to rise from the ground. Angie looks to both of her parents, but has to perform a double-take on her father. His eyes weren't dimmed. Quite the contrary. His eyes were a faint yellow, and she could tell because of the fact that they were glowing faintly.

They start moving closer.

Angie picks up a small noise. Almost as if they were growling at her and her brother. She gets in between her parents and Adam, motioning him back and putting distance between them. Their mother is still on the ground, now crawling towards them.

"Adam, listen to me," Angie starts, still looking to their parents as she continued to push Adam back. "We're going to move slowly into the kitchen. I want you to grab the biggest knives you can find and-"

Their father, who up until this point had not moved much other than the occasional swaying, snaps his head towards them and screeches. A bone-chilling cry echoes throughout the entire house, causing Angie to shove Adam through the kitchen doorway. Their father shrieks again.

Angie looks back to the numbing sight of their father sprinting towards them, dress shoes clacking wildly against the ornate floor.

"ADAM, RUN!"

Carter Li

"Let go of her!" Carter shouts at his father, who keeps pulling his mother closer. His mom starts to struggle more, attempting to break her arm free of her husband's grasp. It only becomes tighter.

"Please," his mother begs, "Stop this!"

Carter looks around frantically for anything that could help. He finds a large book from a shelf nearby and starts using it to slam his father's arm. After a few strikes, his mother is able to wrench her arm free and staggers back, falling onto the ground.

"What the hell was that?!" Carter yells at his father. The man only stares at them, without the slightest bit of emotion present on his face. If anything, there seemed to be a small hint of anger. Carter rushes over to his Mom and helps her stand to her feet. His father lifts himself up as well, beginning to shamble towards them.

Screaming rings out from the bedroom upstairs.

Foster Residence

Adam Foster

He scrambles into the kitchen, his fight or flight responses kicked into high gear. Angie follows behind him, and they weave their way around the central counter. Their father clears the corner, hands scraping along the doorway. Adam grabs the nearest object to him that seemed useful for defense. A frying pan.

Angie quickly reaches across the counter to the center to unsheath a knife from a cutting rack. During the same motion, their father lunges towards the counter. Angie pulls her arm away in time, yet the man still attacks the counter, sending papers and objects everywhere as he claws at the siblings.

"Don't you dare come closer," Angie raises her knife in warning, arm shaking slightly. Adam clasps the frying pan handle with two hands and raises it up. Ready to strike. Their father keeps trying to reach them from his spot on the opposite side of the counter. He attacks the countertop, aggressively swinging his arms. His movements send more objects flying off the counter and crashing to the kitchen floor. A bottle of wine shatters a few feet away from where the siblings stand. Adam jumps back, clutching the pan tighter.

"Wait," Adam looks to his sister, "He can't get over the counter. As long as we stay here he won't be able to reach us."

Their father stops his assault on the poor contents of the kitchen counter for a moment and glances around the room. His head twitches every second, quickly shifting to a new direction. He looks up at them, yellow eyes pulsating stronger. The man stumbles towards the edge of the counter. He grabs it and walks sideways, maintaining an unshifting focus on the siblings.

"He's moving around the counter," Angie gasps, "Adam give me the frying pan."

"No it's mine!" Adam argues back in protest. "It's better than that knife you got."

"Exactly!" She grabs the pan and yanks it from Adam, who begrudgingly let's go. Their father makes it around the rest of the counter and starts sprinting towards them again. Angie readies herself. Their father plants his feet and lunges at them, but is met with a powerful strike from the frying pan. He veers to the left and crumples onto the ground.

"He's still moving Angie," Adam warns her as he backs up. His feet come to a stop as they hit the bottom of the door to the backyard. Adam turns around to look outside through the glass. He can hear screams. A gunshot. Glass breaking. All over the neighborhood.

Angie swings the frying pan down at her father, aiming for the head. He evades, scurrying on all fours as the pan clangs on the ground. Their father switches targets. Ignoring Angie, he sets his yellow eyes on Adam. The boy still was captivated by the sounds from the outside world, and when Adam turned around, it was too late.

Glass shatters. Adam feels the wind leave his lungs as he hits the tile ground of their patio. His father falls off of him and rolls away. Shards of the glass sliced his skin, causing blood to begin trickling down his arms, face, and neck. Adam hears his sister shout his name, but barely registers it. He props himself up only to see two tiny spheres of yellow malevolence racing towards him, the boy so terrified he couldn't move a muscle.

What did y'all think? I apologize for not updating in a really long time. Life is cruel. Anyways, hope everyone enjoyed the first main chapter in the craziness to come! Comment about the music too! I'm thinking about adding more songs throughout.
