Abigail's POV

"Look, there's a new student," my best friend, McKenna Solace, whispered to me. I wanted to ignore her, but McKenna is the type of person you can't ignore. She's this beacon of light that everything rotates around and she knows it, too. Sighing, I looked at the guy who she was talking about and squinted my eyes to see him.

He had a part of his hair slicked back and stuck up near the middle, and wore the school's white and purple uniform with the black tie hanging loosely around his neck. His purple vest was crooked and the top buttons were unbuttoned as if he was too bothered to do anything about it. When I got a glance at his face, I was speechless. He had the most gorgeous emerald green eyes and kind smile, I could drown in those eyes, though. McKenna tapped my shoulder over and over, probably calling my name too, but I was too caught up in his eyes to notice that, and the fact that the teacher had entered the room and began teaching.

"Miss Jackson!" I snapped my head in the direction of McKenna as she imitated our English teacher's voice. I playfully pushed her. "McKenna! Really?" I nearly laughed, but stopped once Mrs. Anderson began to teach the lesson.

Mrs. Anderson was a nice teacher for the most part, after testing she brings in candy canes for us to 'nibble' on as she says. She has a slight country accent and uses metaphors so strange and out there that no one could help but laugh.

I zoned out for a little bit during class, (English has never been my strong suit) but I perked my ears once Mrs. Anderson said we were getting into groups for an English project. I looked at McKenna. We both had the same look on our faces.

"Fortunately for me, I'll be picking your group members." My eyes widened. That can only mean one thing: we're probably not going to be in the same group.

"I'll list the groups on the board as I call them out. Christian Degario, Abigail Jackson, McKenna Solace-" I let out a silent cheer, seeing that McKenna did the same. "-and Tony Alegra." I glanced around the room, trying to find my group members- besides McKenna.

Christian was just sitting in the corner, looking like he just woke up from a trance across the room in- hang on, was he looking at McKenna?

I looked back at my best friend, seeing that she was looking at the ground to hide a blush. I leaned back in my chair, a smug look on my face. Guess I'll just leave him to McKenna.

Mrs. Anderson began calling out the names in the other groups while I began wondering what this project was going to be about. She always says the groups first before what the actual project is on. She says it's the efficient way. For her, anyway.

"Alright," Mrs. Anderson said after she finished calling out the names. "Our project will be about the elements. But not the periodic table; elements like Fire-" me and McKenna perked up- "Water-" Christian sat up- "Wind-" Tony looked at her with wide eyes- "and Earth." I sat up straighter. McKenna and I had been into these kinds of elements since as long as I can remember.

Mrs. Anderson continued. "All four members of your group will be assigned an element. You are to choose which one you'd most be like. How to do your project is up to you too." She went on and on about how we can do our projects. This time, for the very first time, I actually listened to all of it. Well, most of it.

McKenna tried to get my attention. I looked at her. She mouthed, Do you know what you want to be yet? She signed. I looked at Mrs. Anderson to see if she was looking, then mouthed, Yeah, you?

Yes, she signed. We both looked back to the front just as Mrs. Anderson turned around and smiled. "I hope you all got that down. Now I-" the bell rang signaling it was the end of the day. She tried to finish her sentence while the large crowd of teens pushed their way around her. My group was the last to leave; I guess we were still in shock.

I walked over to Christian who was talking to Tony. "You guys want to meet up at my house? We could work on the project a little." They nodded their heads.

"We would need your address, though." Christian said awkwardly.

"Oh! Yeah, I forgot. Let me just write it down-" I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote my address down twice, ripped it in half, then handed them to the boys. "There. Meet me and McKenna there at three. See ya there, boys."

I walked over to McKenna with one last glance over my shoulder. Both boys were surprised at the fact that a super cute girl- namely me- wanted them to come over to her house. I giggled at them and and walked to my locker with McKenna.

McKenna's POV

Abigail, who I call Abi, seemed more confident today. We were at her house, getting ready for the guys coming over. Her words, not mine.

I had just put the delicious fresh baked cookies - which smelled wonderful - on the cooling rack when the doorbell rang.

"I got it!" I hollered up to Abi, who was upstairs while I rushed to get the door. She shouted back a reply just as I reached for the door handle.

As soon as I opened the door Abi came back downstairs with a shirt and jeans on and carrying another outfit for me in her hands. We came to each other's houses regularly so we always had a change of clothes no matter what house they're at.

"Hey!" I said when I saw the boys both waiting outside. I led them into the kitchen where the cookies and a hungry Abi were waiting. Abi had already snagged a cookie and was munching on it softly.

"Abi!" I scolded, putting my fists on my hips. "At least wait to eat the cookies."

Tony looked around for the cookies after I said the word. He immediatly spotted them and yelled, "Sweet! Cookies!" Before darting around me, grabbing two and shoving them into his mouth.

I giggled while I ate my cookie, watching Tony try and stuff three more into his mouth.

"Alright," Abi said after we had grabbed the cookies away from Tony to stop him from eating them all and going up the stairs with them. "Down to business, shall we?"
