Chapter 18

We immediately put the plan into action once we finish eating and I tell everyone what it is. They all raise their eyebrows at me in surprise.

"Wow Blitz, didn't think you had so much evil in you." Ignis says approvingly. I playfully hit her arm to hide the fact that my face is burning from the compliment.

"Lets just go. We could probably catch some fish in the river, I'm still hungry." Terro complains.

We all roll our eyes at him and Kin points to Ignis, "Lead the way Captain Ignis."

She does and the next thing we know we're trekking through the dense, close knit forest, which, if you didn't know, isn't very fun. Leaves and branches hit you and get stuck in your hair while random bugs bombard you, leaves from the small plants on the ground both tickling and scaring the bajeebers out of you.

We walk and walk and walk.

Ignis is in the lead and burns some stuff out of the way but we continue to be very slow. Step. Step. Branch gets stuck in my hair. Stop and free it. Step. Step. Bug gets stuck in my eye. Step. Step. It's a painfully slow journey and I am just about to complain when Ignis stops and holds a hand up, telling us to stop.

Nero opens his mouth to speak but Ignis hushes him, cocking her head as though listening to something. I do the same and don't hear anything.

"What-" I start, but then I hear it. Running water and voices.

I feel an evil smile play on my face and I think the others are doing the same.

Time for payback.

. . .

We creep out of the forest into a clearing. I sigh in relief as the trees disappear and I hear Kin do the same. Those things are so annoying.

"Okay, we all know the plan?" Ignis whispers to us. I don't know why we're whispering, it's not like they'll be able to hear us over the roar of the river and we aren't even close to them.

"Yeah." Neve whispers back.

Ignis smiles and evil smile, one that suits her well, "Then lets get some payback."

I'm not sure what we're getting payback for. Their gloating? Their winning? The fight we had before?

Whatever. I'm all in either way.

I look over to where the voices are, curious to see what the Black Serpents' camp looks like, and am both surprised and slightly embarrassed they found it first.

The river looks fast, and a couple of the Black Serpents are standing in the water, doing something. As I watch, a fish jumps out of the water, making the metal elementalist on their team shout and leap toward the fish. Somehow he manages to catch it and lets out a bark of triumph. I feel my stomach grumble and my mood lower.

I turn my attention from the celebrating fishermen and look instead at what apparently is their home. Ignis described it to us, a small house made of hardened mud, but it looks bigger in person. It is a square about fifty feet with the fire, water, and earth elementalists working on making it either bigger or stronger.

"Lets go." Ignis whispers. We nod at her and she leads us closer, sneaking from tree to tree like spies. We slowly make our way closer without the Black Serpents even glancing our way, to absorbed in what they're doing, completely oblivious to the attack. I bet the viewers at home are either laughing or leaning forward eagerly to see what happens.

This could either go as planned or horribly wrong.

I hope it's the first one.

We stop about ten trees away from their mud house and Ignis turns to us, her orange eyes twinkling, "Ready?"

"So we just......do it?" Neve whispers nervously. Terro nods at her and she gulps. I pat her shoulder to comfort both her and I, my nerves buzzing around inside me like trapped flies, making me fidget.

"Okay. Whenever you're ready." Ignis mutters to Nero. The enthusiastic boy gives us a bright smile before taking his stance. I turn my attention to the river to see Nero's work. The water gradually slows down, unbeknownst to the Black Serpents, who just continue their chores.

I snicker.

It slows and slows until it is barely moving. I glance over at Nero to see him frowning at the river, his hands pointing out. Ignis nudges Neve and she gulps before getting into the same position Nero is, also frowning in concentration.

My attention is stolen by the river once again, which slowly starts to freeze, starting at one end and creeping toward the unsuspecting Black Serpents. As I watch, the ice elementalist on their team dives forward into the barely moving water and comes back out with a fish wriggling in his hands. The others cheer and they all run out of the water and over to the fire elementalist, Fotia. The girl cooks the fish and once it is brown the group who were fishing walk inside the small, makeshift building, probably storing the fish for later.

Once they disappear into the mud house I look back at the river and smile as I see it completing it's freeze while I watch, the water finally being covered by the dazzling ice. It finishes and Nero and Neve step back, wide smiles on their faces.

I look around to see similar grins on everyone's faces, including mine. We are finally doing it. We're finally showing the stupid snakes who's boss. To be honest, I didn't expect them to make it this far. I thought they would get out two or three rounds ago, but they made it. They made it to the end. The last round.

But so did we. And we plan to keep on making it.

Once the fishing kids come back out of the mud hut and see the frozen river, they shout in shock, pointing and looking around for who froze the river.

Looking for us.

Stage two, check.

We hid ourselves well, but we need to hurry up with stage three before they discover us, hiding behind a bush.

Terro puts his hands straight out, facing the trees opposite of us. Ten seconds later I hear a rustling noise and a stick snap. The Black Serpents shout and run toward the trees, falling for the trap.

What idiots.

As soon as the last kid disappears into the trees Ignis moves. She runs forward, toward the Black Serpents camp. We chase after her, stopping at their little mud hut and hiding behind it.

"Okay, we know what to do, right?" Ignis whispers to us. We nod, evil smiles plastered on our faces. Ignis' lips curl into an evil smirk just as we hear the snakes coming back, their feet snapping twigs and their voices getting louder.

"I don't like this...." A girl says nervously.

"Oh, come on, it's just someone playing a prank."

I hear Ignis growl and assume that's Fotia.

"Well, how do you explain the river?" A boy asks, not Zhen.

There is a couple minutes of silence as they get closer, then "Well, like I said. Probably the leaders messing with us."

Fotia.

"Do you......do you think it's the ugly weasels?" A boy asks.

I choke on air and have to take deep breaths at their name for us. The ugly weasels? Wow. Well, I guess are's isn't much better. The stupid snakes. Yeah, both teams aren't exactly the best name-callers.

I am not at all offended, actually quite happy they called us that, but apparently the others aren't. I hear Terro shift around behind me and his arm brushes against mine, revealing the fact that he is tense. Ignis mutters something under her breath and I manage to catch a couple colorful swear words along with 'stupid snakes' and 'who do they think they are?'

There is silence from the Black Serpents and I start to get nervous they found us, but then Zhen speaks, his sneering voice sadly familiar in my ears, "No. They're to dumb to find us, they probably starved to death somewhere or got eaten by a bear. Don't worry about them."

A couple people snicker and I hear a few 'good one!'s while I feel myself tense and my eyes narrow, my breath coming fast and hard.

That was not okay.

Apparently, the lightning elementalist's words managed to affect even Neve and Nero. I can hear the two of them muttering under their breaths and fidgeting. A quick look behind me shows Kin glaring out with such venom in her eyes I fear being the victim of her wrath.

And as if the idiot was just asking for pain, he continued, probably encouraged by the snickers he received for his last remark, "Yeah. I mean, come on. The ice girl is so wimpy and scared she can barely walk! The water kid is just a dumb idiot who wants attention and the earth boy thinks he's soooo tough! I mean, seriously? The fire girl too! Ohhh, look at me! I have tattoos, I'm so bad! And the metal girl with her awful rockstar look! Seriously, a spike collar?"

As the boy continues to speak, I feel myself get angrier and angrier with each word. Every time he says something mean about someone, I think of new swear words and fantastic ways to severely injure him.

As he insults each and every person on my team I can almost feel their sadness and shame. They wince and lower their heads, making me even angrier. I want to turn around, grab them by the shoulders and shake them as I scream at them just how much they mean to me, but I wait. Oh, I wait.

Zhen snorts before continuing, "The wind idiot thinks he's soooo smart because he reads! He's probably just as dumb as the water boy!"

I growl under my breath at the double remark, feeling my throat tighten I'm so angry. But I still wait. I wait to hear what he says about me.

The sound of a branch hitting another one sounds and I can picture the idiot, probably slowly walking back, two sticks in his hands, banging them together, his bangles jiggling and his piercings flashing.

"And the other lightning elementalist. What a moron!"

I roll my eyes.

"I mean, she thinks she's so smart! Coming up with all the amazing plans!"

I smirk.

If only you knew Zhen, if only you knew.

"And so cool! Being able to Dart and, oh heavens me, conjure electricity!" He says in a mockingly awed voice.

The other kids are cracking up, clearly enjoying Zhen's insult spree.

"Well, I got news for you sister, I can do it too!"

That's it.

I decide they're close enough, about ten feet away from we're hiding, and stand up, revealing myself. I smirk at the surprised expression on all their faces as they see me, their stupid laughs dying off.

"Oh you can, can you?" I sneer at Zhen, who is indeed holding two sticks, his face stretched in surprise. I make a fake gun with my fingers and pretend to shoot it, jerking it up, but as I do, the 'gun' shoots something out. A ball of electricity.

And I shot it right at the water elementalists chest. It hits its target, and the boy convulses, falling to the ground.

"Bullseye."
