Chapter 7: Truth Comes to Light
All the guys were sparring while us girls watched. Robin was out with Batman doing to dynamic duo thing. It has literally only been a day but I miss the dork. The moral was down a bit without him and his making fun of the English language.
"Kaldur's nice, strong, commanding, you should totally ask him out." Artemis said to Megan. I snorted, her and Superboy were obviously into each other.
"He's like a big brother to me. (Y/n) and Robin on the other hand." Megan nudged me and I blushed looking at the ground.
"Really? I thought you were with Red Arrow. I mean the other night you and him were- out on the town together." Artemis caught herself before she slipped up. I sent her a glare and mouthed 'I will hurt you.'
"That's who you met." Megan realized.
"Guys it's not like that! We're just good friends." I shrugged my shoulders, the girls looked at me skeptically.
"Does he know that?" Artemis asked. I ignored her there was no way I was going to deal with that right now.
"Besides I'm 13, Robin and I are the youngest ones on this team." I said not knowing how it was going to help my case.
"Have you and Robin kissed? And don't lie because I'll know." Megan giggled. I rolled my eyes, she was so perky it could be unbearable at times.
"No, but there has been a few... close encounters." I blushed.
Red Tornado flew into the cave. Wally ran up to him excited. We all were itching for a mission, these past few days haven't exactly been eventful.
"Do you have a mission for us?" He questioned hopeful.
"Missions are the Batman's responsibility."
"Yeah but Uncle Bat's out with Robin in Gotham." I pointed out. RT paused, then pulled up a picture of an elderly man.
"This is Kent Nelson, a friend. He is 106 years old, and he has been missing for 23 days." RT explained.
"Of course, he's Earth's sorcerer supreme." Kaldur realized, "he was Dr Fate"
"Kent may simply be on one of his walkabouts, but it is unwise to leave the Helm of Fate unguarded."
I wondered what a 106 year old man would do I his free time. Read, bake, write.
"He is like the great sorcerer and priestesses of Mars," Megan sighed. "I would be honored to meet him."
"Me too!" Wally raised his hand, "so honored. Magic rocks."
I held back a laugh. Wally believing in magic is like Red Arrow laughing at a rom-com.
"Take this, it is the key to the Tower of Fate." I took the key from RT. There was an engraving on it. A leap of faith.

I sat in the bio-ship with everyone else. It was a more comfortable silence, even with Robin gone.
"So, Wally, when did you first realize your honest affinity for sorcery?" Artemis questioned. I gave her a look that said 'we both know anything he says is going to be bull.'
"Well, I don't like to brag, but, ah, before I became Kid Flash, I seriously considered becoming a wizard myself." He lied. I rolled my eyes and leaned over to Artemis.
"I don't have to use my powers to know that he's lying." I whispered and we giggled.
"We've reached the coordinates, but nothing's there." M'gann reported.
M'gann put us down and as we walked out I saw a cat. It was orange with black stripes and had deep unnatural red eyes. It looked at me curiously.
"Here kitty." I cooed, the cat pranced over to me and I picked it up stroking the soft fur, "good kitty."
He started to purr and KF ran over. The cat tensed and I pet it more trying to calm the poor thing down.
"Is that a cat?" He reached for it, but the cat hissed and jumped out of my arms running away.
"Good going, you scared it away!" I scolded.
We searched the perimeter and didn't find anything.
"Duh!" I facepalmed, "I can just earthbend a bit."
I shifted my foot on the ground and felt something weird. The vibrations didn't match up with what we were seeing.
"This doesn't make any sense," I pulled out the key and walked forward, "There should be a building right... here."
I trailed off as the key entered something. I turned it and a door appeared. Slowly the Tower of Fate appeared. I motioned for the team to follow me and we slowly walked into the tower.
"Greeting," a hologram of Mr Nelson appeared, "You enter with a key, but the tower does not recognize you. Please state your purpose and intent."
"We are true believers here to find Dr Fate." KF announced. The hologram disappeared, so did the floor below us. I screamed in shock and frustration, KF's stupid lies were going to get us all killed. It honestly was slightly cringe worthy, but I couldn't do very much about it, and he looked hilarious when he failed.
We started falling towards a pit of lava. Everyone stopped themselves as I continued to let myself fall. I could feel a slight heat as I neared the burning pit. Thanks to fire-bending I was immune to stuff like this.
"(H/n)!" Aqualad yelled.
At the last second I bent the lava so I could stand on it without being hurt. I was so glad I made my suit element proof, or I would have no shoes on right now.
"I am so glad that worked." I sighed in relief.
"You did that without knowing it was going to work!" Artemis yelled.
"No..." I lied.
"Red Tornado sent us, to see if the helmet and Mr Nelson were safe." M'gann shouted. A door closed over the lava and I jumped onto it. At least M'gann figured something out.
"Your little show to impress Megan almost got us killed! You lied to the hologram saying you were a true believer!" Artemis screamed. I nodded slightly in agreement. Pot just met kettle, and it was not going to end well.
"I lied about believing in magic! But magic is the real lie! A major load!" KF crossed his arms.
Aqualad opened a trapdoor on the platform. A cold draft came up from it.
"It's snow." M'gann smiled. We jumped through the hatch.
I saw Kent's cane and grabbed it, so did Wally and Artemis. It flew all three of us somewhere else in the tower. An area of staircases that could cause a major migraine.
We appeared on a staircase and looked over to see Abra Kadabra, Kent Nelson, and someone else. On the other person's shoulder was the cat from earlier. Nelson flew down and took the staff from us opening a door in the process. I was starting to dislike cats now, kind of like Superboy and monkeys.
"In here." All four of scrambled to get into the elevator.
"I'm Kent Nelson by the way."
"No duh." KF scoffed, Artemis hit him upside the head.
"I'm Artemis, Miss Manners here is Wally."
"I'm (Y/n)." I introduced. Mr Nelson looked at me closely like he was staring into my soul, I didn't like it.
"What we're up against is someone filled with mystic power." Kent looked at me when he said that. Again with the soul searching. We aren't in the 80's, honestly.
"Abra Kadabra? He's all show no bizz." KF shrugged.
"Yes, but that kid with the car, is Klarion the witch man. An actual lord of chaos. Klarion's after the helmet, if he get his sticky little mitts on it, he'll turn the planet into his personal playground."
The elevator opened and we walked out now in front of a giant bell. The rest of the team fell through a door in the ceiling. They must have found another door in the snowy mountains. Something shot from above us so we all ducked down. Mr Nelson tapped the bell and Wally, Mr Nelson, and I stepped through it.
Once we got through it appeared we were on the roof. Mr Nelson got shot down by Klarion. He put up a bubble around us, KF attempted to help him. I knew it was too late for him, I always knew.
"It no use." I said quietly. I stepped out of the bubble shooting fire at Klarion. The cat ran towards me me rubbing against my legs. Whose side is that mammal on?
"You would lift a hand against someone so close to your kind?" Klarion asked. I froze, my body went rigid.
"What?" I whispered.
"You didn't know? Well, let's keep it that way." He smirked. I threw more fire at him until KF came out as Dr Fate.
"I got this." He stated, KF's and his voice combined. I ignored him and continued to fight against Klarion. No way was this guy going to waltz in and tell me to stop asking for answers, especially when it's about what I am. The team came onto the roof and watched. Dr.Fate hit the cat causing Klarion to lose his power.
KF took of the helmet, but I still needed answers. I created a ball of fire and held it up to Klarion. He looked back at me calmly, seemingly unfazed by the flames dancing dangerously close to him.
"What am I?" I growled. One way or another I was going to get the answers I wanted. I could see something out of the corner of my eyes. It looked exactly like me, only was wearing something different, I ignored it and turned my gaze back to Klarion.
"Why would I tell you?"
Anger overwhelmed me as I felt myself start to leave the ground. I took water from Aqualad and turned it into ice sending it towards Klarion. One way or another. I saw the thing again, the smirk still on her- my face.
"(Y/n) stop!" Aqualad ordered. I stopped the ice inches away from Klarion. "Why are you doing this?"
"He knows what I am." I growled not taking my eyes off of him.
"(Y/n) this isn't you."
"You're right." I lowered myself to the ground the air blowing my hair around. The ice still stood motionless.
"Use the ice." Someone whispered in my ear. I whipped my head to the side and saw no one. The voice sounded just like mine. "Use it!"
I looked back at the team. The thing, the copy of me standing behind them. I lifted my hand and sent the ice towards them, "You're right, it's not me."
The copy of me disappeared and I stopped the ice once I realized what I was doing. I looked at my shaking hands then the team. The ice fell and broke on the ground. Melting back into large puddles of water.
"What have I done?" I whispered.
M'gann took a step towards me. I scrambled back.
"No! Please, I-I don't want to hurt you." I looked off of the tower at the ground. I jumped off catching myself with a gust of air. The team was looking off of the edge worried.
I went through the nearest zeta tube to the cave. I quickly ran to my room not wanting to face the team after what happened. I jumped on my bed letting the soft covers surround me in warmth.
"Lock the door to everyone unless told otherwise." I told S.A.S.S while starting to cry.
I sat on my bed and pulled my knees. I almost hurt my friends. I still didn't know what I was too. I was so overcome with anger, I became like the people I fought against.
"(Y/n), (Y/n) let me in." Wally knocked on my door.
"Grant access." I mumbled. He wasn't going to give up if I didn't and I already had a headache to deal with, I didn't need Kid Mouth bothering me.
The door opened and Wally crushed me in a hug. I grunted due to the force of it.
"I feel like Robin should be doing this." He stated and I giggled.
"I'm sorry." I sniffed.
"It isn't your fault... when I had the helmet on Kent told me something. He said that the amount of power you hold is equal to that of Dr Fate. He thinks that somehow you're half Lord of Order. Which is why you have your powers."
"I'm okay... I'm not Klarion! This is amazing!" I laughed, "man do I have a story for Robin."
