*Frisk's POV*
In the pitch black night, and the shimmering lights, I was shocked to see the library still open.
When G stopped the motorcycle, my body seemed to think it was still moving, and I continued to cling onto G and tremble.
A soft chuckle left his smirking lips, and he glanced back at my shaking figure.
"... Getting cozy sweetcheeks?"
That was what made me let go and quickly get off, ignoring my jello legs as I adjusted my shawl around me, ignoring G's laugh and smirk as he parked the motorcycle and climbed off.
Standing before the library, we studied it with sharp interest.
It was supported by two columns and was made from pure marble, which made the white seem grey in the bright lights of the city. Compared to the area around it, the library was like a statue in the middle of an arcade.
Yet that didn't stop G from climbing up the steps, not even waiting for me to follow him.
I did, and asked, "How old is this place?"
"Been around for..." G paused at one of the steps to think, making me bump into him and gasp, trying not to fall over.
He continued, not noticing (or caring) about my struggle for balance, "Well, since monsters came to the surface. But I'm sure they thought this is how humans would like it. That's why humans are allowed in."
Continuing to walk up the steps, I thought about how many humans actually cared enough to visit the monster library.
Then I realized how different I was from them.
Come to think of it, I realized that I was helping a former monster criminal who had killed, stole, and probably done much more then just that.
The one reason I was still on G's side, is because I needed to be safe.
And because I truly believe he was a good person before the Peace Plan was introduced to him.
Everything he had said to Asriel, made me believe he truly wanted justice, even if he only cared for himself, he was still for justice.
Confusion filled me, so I shoved that thought aside and realized that G doesn't have a side.
He's his own side.
In all truth, I don't think I could ever join.
Inside the library was much more modern then the outside.
There were computers on tables that stretched out in rows, along with bookshelves that cluttered all around the library in their own personal sections.
Romance, teen-fiction, nonfiction, fiction, biography, the options were endless.
Heaven.
I had forgotten how much I loved books, their smell, their look, their words that fluttered across my eyes with each flip of the page. The hard covers that my hands smoothed over, just to feel the detail in the words and picture.
Oh and the smell!
Even though it smelt like an old storage room, I knew that it was the mix of musty book smells all around me, filling me with the enjoyment of stories and imagination.
When my eyes stopped at G's confused and bewildered expression, I blushed.
"What?"
"What the hell goodie-goodie, ya some kind of bookworm?"
Another nickname I would have to deal with.
Ignoring his question, I asked my own.
"So... Who was this friend anyway?"
"Her name was Alphys, she was the royal scientist for Asgore back in the underground. If I had to admit it, she was genius. Almost completely opposite from her girlfriend though."
We searched the isles casually, glad no one noticed we were in.
Probably because not a lot of people were in the library late at night, besides the librarian and a man who was on the computer, along with a few girls studying at a table.
As we searched, we continued to talk and I asked, "How did her girlfriend die?"
"Fire explosion. Her home exploded, and after the fire cleared up, we found her crisp fish body burned to the highest degree. There was no way we could save her."
The way G's sadness filled his voice, made me never want to eat crispy fish again.
I didn't even know the girl, and I couldn't imagine the true effect it had on Alphys.
"Oh..." I whispered, my eyes scanning the books, catching notice of the fairy tales instead of what I'm actually supposed to be looking for.
"Yeah," G continued speaking, letting out his bottled emotions about the whole subject, "She was head of the royal guard, which was like a first Crew. When she died, it was the first step to Asgore wanting to get out, because it was one of her main wishes. He was like a daughter to him."
"She sounds sweet," I said with a smile, pulling a book titled 'Under the Bridge' which made me curious about monster books.
When G laughed and shook his head, my attention was pulled away from the book and I looked up at him while putting it back.
"What?"
"Nothing... nothing..." He chuckled softly to himself and I heard him mumbled under his breath, "Undyne... Sweet... Ha..."
Shoving his sarcasm to the bottom of the list of my problems, I continued to look for what we needed.
Suddenly, someone tapped my shoulder and asked, "Need any help finding something?"
I jumped out of my skin and turned around with a yelp, still afraid from any touching after my encounter with Asriel.
There, meeting my eyes, was the librarian who jumped back as well, her face just as shocked as mine. Yet she just laughed a sweet granny laugh and adjusted her glasses to her three eyes.
"Sorry about startling you," She apologized with a smile.
G snickered and my face turned red as I pulled my shawl tighter around my body.
"N-no you're fine," I said forcing a smile, "Yes actually, we would like some help."
G seemed to be hiding himself as the librarian nodded with a sweeter smile, and it made me have the same urge to be criminals in hiding.
The librarian's sweet smile was nothing like Toriel's, it was much more real and kind. Much more believable, and it didn't leave my mind clouded and sick.
"What do you need to find?" She asked politely.
G answered before I could, "Newspapers. A big stack of em. Ya got any old lady?"
My sharp elbow jabbed into his stomach and a weak smile was plastered on my face as I continued to look at the librarian.
"Oof!" G grunted and held his stomach with a glare I could feel without looking.
I also felt his smirk.
The librarian just smiled and lead us.
"Right this way," She said as she walked across the library.
Soon we ended up in front of a bookshelf covered with old parchments of paper, all newspapers.
After she left, I mumbled to G, "It's going to take years to find what we need... and Asriel might catch up to us by then..."
The thought of Asriel made me shiver, and I tried to keep the Peace Plan from entering my mind.
"That's the plan..." G mumbled as his eyes scanned the shelves with focus, "We just need to be quick about it."
He walked over to the bookshelf, and his fingers scanned the years that were tapped to the bottom of each shelf.
Of course, take us years.
I hit myself in the head over and over for the stupid joke and prayed that G didn't mean it that way.
When he saw me hit my head, and when he smirked, I realized he did meant it like that and I held back a glare.
"What year was it?"
"We got out year 204X."
Nodding, I set to work and searched the numbers and dates.
Finally, I yanked a old newspaper from the shelf, ignoring the extras that fell to the floor.
"Found it! 204X!" I said, smiling wide at my accomplishment.
G rushed over and yanked it from my hand fiercely, and excitement filled me as I realized we were getting just what we needed.
"Mt. Ebott," G mumbled under his breath as he read the paper, while I cleaned up the newspapers I scattered, "That's the tallest mountain... you can see it from the tallest building in the city..."
While he mumbled to himself, I continued to pick up the papers, and my eye caught something else.
Year 204X: Prince and King Pledge For Peace Between Humans and Monsters at Any Cost.
I stared at the paper, and thought to myself about his pledge.
Eleven years, and his pledge hasn't come true.
Yet he was expecting it to come true.
He wanted it to come true.
He had made a promise to his people, the people and monsters who trusted him.
Perhaps that is one of the reasons he is so willing to get the plan to work.
Determined.
The thought scared me and I quickly picked up the paper, putting it with the others and shoving it back on the shelf.
"Know where we're headed?" I asked, adjusting my shawl as I walked over to G.
"Yup," He smirked and showed me a picture of a large mountain, "Mt. Ebott. Miles away, but still just outside the city."
Joy filled me, along with relief, and I smiled wide with a cheer and clap of my hands.
G rolled his eyes and shoved the paper in my chest, then walked past me.
My excitement flattened, and I remembered how he hated me.
I took another look at the mountain as I put the paper away, and I wondered how we would get inside.
Then I noticed the hole at the top.
All I had swimming through my head as I caught up with G, was the hope that he had a better way in.
And the hope that Asriel wasn't waiting just outside for us.
To my worry, he wasn't waiting outside.
No, not outside.
He was waiting inside with two Crew members beside him.
