Chapter 46
Stiles's Pov
After leaving the clothes store Luke and I had gone off to the food court to eat since we were not hungry and we wanted our stomachs full before leaving.
Luke wanted us to head back to his apartment so we could cuddle and watch movies.
I, of course, wanted that too.
But I had to check with my dad first.
Fortunately, when I called him and asked he said it was alright just as long as I come home safe and sound.
But if I plan to sleepover at Luke's place then I should let him know so that he's not worrying the entire night.
I really have the best dad.
Luke and I decided, once we got to the food court, that we would get burgers and fries along with two cokes.
I ordered and I tried my hardest to pay for the food but Luke, being the sneaky bastard that he is, managed to pay before I could.
I swear I wanted to wipe the stupid smirk off his face but he took the tray that had our food and walked to an empty table.
I just rolled my eyes before following after him.
When we sat down we started eating our food while engaging in a conversation about our lives.
We mainly talked about school, how boring and stressful it is, before talking about our plans for after highschool.
"I do plan to go to college but before that I'm going to look for internships that can help me become an FBI agent" I told my boyfriend.
Luke raised an eyebrow at me, "FBI agent, huh? Never thought you'd want to go for that career".
I shrugged, "I've always been smart and I've always been passionate about becoming an FBI agent. It's something I've always wanted to do and plan on doing".
"Any chance it's because you want to be like your dad. He's the sheriff of Beacon Hills after all" Luke said.
"Yeah. I mean, my dad has always been my hero and I've always looked up to him. I would like to follow in his footsteps" I nodded.
Wanting to help people the same way my dad does has always been something I wanted to do.
And with my intelligence I can solve as many cases and help many people get their justice.
"That's pretty sweet" Luke smiled.
I laughed while stuffing some fries into my mouth.
"Yeah it is. Well, what about you Mr. Carter?" I asked, tilting my head at him.
"I'm going to college, of course, since I'm sure Liv would kick my ass if I didn't" Luke said.
"I can definitely see that" I laughed.
"Not only that but my grandparents made Liv and I promise that we would go to college to get our degrees. Neither of us are breaking that promise" Luke said with a serious face.
My eyes softened, my heart fluttering, and a soft smile appeared on my face.
"Now that's really sweet of you and Liv" I said.
Luke nodded with a small sad smile on his face.
I hated to see him in that state, I hated him being sad, so I reached out and took his hand in mine.
Luke looked at me and his eyes softened and filled up with love as he squeezed my hand a little.
"I've got you" I told him.
"I know" Luke nodded, bringing my hand up to his lips in order to the kiss the top of it.
I smiled, my cheeks turning red, and continued eating my food with my free hand.
"So, tell me, what career path are you planning to take?" I asked.
Luke smiled, "believe it or not but I want to become a lawyer".
"Really?" I asked, my eyes widening in slight surprise.
"Yes. My grandfather was a lawyer, a very well known one at that, and he would always take me to his firm and show me everything he would do. I was always fascinated and interested" Luke explained.
"So you want to follow in his footsteps" I smiled.
"Yes. I want to help the innocent and make sure that the criminals are put behind bars" Luke told me.
"Understandable" I nodded.
Nowadays the legal system is messed up and lawyers are either good or they suck.
It's nice to hear that Luke doesn't want to be like that.
It's nice to hear that he won't let the innocent walk away without justice and won't let the criminals walk away free.
"Plus being a lawyer pays well. And if I want to take care of you in the future I'm going to work my ass off" Luke smiled.
I laughed, my cheeks turning red, as I shook my head at him.
"I can take care of myself. I don't need you to take care of me and I don't want you to think I'm going to depend on you. I'm an independent guy" I reminded him.
Growing up my parents have always told me to never rely on anyone.
They raised me to be a strong and independent person.
And I always have been.
The thought of anyone having to take care of me, the thought of being dependent on someone, doesn't sit right with me.
Not when I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself.
Luke looked at me with a fond look, "I know that. But I want you to know that I'm always going to be there for you and take care of you no matter what. I promise".
His words made my heart flutter as my eyes softened.
Hearing him say that made me realize that he's aware that I'm not going to depend on him.
He's aware that I can take care of myself. He's aware that I'm independent, like him, and hardworking.
I only assumed otherwise because Derek wasn't like that.
Derek always assumed I was someone that needed to be taken care of. Someone that needed someone to depend on. Someone that had to be watched 24/7 because I wouldn't be able to keep myself safe.
I know that I've never been one to fight but that's because I don't like it.
I would only ever fight if it was necessary.
I would only ever fight if someone did something to me or someone I cared about.
And, trust me, I know how to fight. I know how to defend myself.
My dad is the sheriff after all.
But Derek always assumed I couldn't because I never showed off any of my skills the way he and Scott did.
"I'm sorry, babe. I didn't mean to sound rude. It's just...my ex-boyfriend always assumed I was weak and needed protection, needed someone to depend on, so I thought that's what you meant. I should've known that wasn't the case" I said.
Luke scoffed, his eyes full of anger, at the mention of Derek.
Not that I blame him.
"Well if that's what he thought then he's an idiot" Luke said.
Agreed.
Luke stopped eating his food and scooted closer to me and cupped the sides of my face with his hands.
"You, love, are a strong and independent person that doesn't need anyone to protect you. Not when you can take care of yourself. Now believe me when I say that I'll always be there to protect you no matter what but believe me when I say that even if I'm not there I don't have to worry because you're capable of handling things on your own" Luke smiled.
He pressed his forehead against mine and whispered, "it's one of the many reasons I love you".
My heart fluttered at his words and my cheeks turned red.
It's not the first time he's told me those words.
But hearing it from his mouth always make me feel warm inside.
Because I know he's being genuine.
Because, unlike Derek, Luke really does love me.
And all I've ever wanted was for someone to love me 100%.
And I've finally found that someone.
I moved my lips to plant a kiss on his cheek before whispering, "thank you, babe. And I love you too".
Luke grinned happily and kissed my nose before leaning back causing me to do the same.
"Come on. Lets finish our food so we can head on home" Luke said.
"Sounds good" I nodded.
With that we continued eating, chatting about anything, while holding hands and just admiring each other.
