Chapter 24- The help
"No, you can't do that."
"Why not?"
"Because you'll disappear."
"Don't believe everything you hear; everyone's experience is different. If we all faced the same thing, then we wouldn't be here."
"I can't let you go in there by yourself."
"Alright then, join me."
"I can't."
"Why not?"
"Trust me on this one Lyn."
"Well, I'd rather die while finding a way out instead of living my life in fear, being stuck here."
"You'll regret this decision, Lyn."
"I won't regret anything; every decision is the right decision. It could be much worse."
"Lyn..."
"I made my mind, I'm going there. Nothing can stop me. I'm not going to waste any more time."
"Okay,"
I waited for the sun to descend and let the moonshine. It was dark. It was time for me to discover the truth that lies behind those trees. I was waiting for that light to shine. In less than a minute, I saw a light shining at the very end of the forest.
"See you on the other side," I said.
"See you, take care." She replied.
"Thanks!"
I ran forward like a leopard, towards the light as the shadows followed me. The light was shining so bright, that I couldn't see anything around me. It was a long distance. Halfway through the journey, the light disappeared, and I was in the middle of the forest with a shadow as my company. I stopped running and started walking in the same exact direction. The moonlight helped make things a bit more visible.
If I kept on walking in the same direction I would probably be walking on a path that leads nowhere. I decided to go left and check out the secrets of this forest. Darkness was conquering the forest. I was trying to spot anything that could potentially lead me to something. As I was walking, I heard footsteps, and they weren't mine. I stopped for a minute to make sure that I wasn't hallucinating, and it was true, I still hear footsteps.
They're getting closer and closer. I looked around me, but it was dark, I couldn't see anything. I began to walk a bit faster as I heard the sound of the leaves crushing. Who could it be? It didn't take long for that question to be answered. I stopped to check who was behind me. As I was about to look around me, I felt a gun touching my back.
"Who are you?" I said without turning back.
"You shouldn't be here." A masculine voice said.
"But I am."
"Move."
"Move where?"
"Go forward."
"Where do you want to take me?"
"Just shut up, and move."
"Okay."
I pictured all the possibilities of how I can get rid of him, but why get rid of him? He may know the way out. I must be in control. I stopped walking, kicked the gun with my elbow, and pushed his knee with my leg. I took the gun and pointed it at him. He was masked, I couldn't identify who he was.
"Well played Lyn." He said.
"How do you know my name?" I replied by asking.
"I know you very well."
"I don't think so, because if you knew me well you wouldn't point a gun at me."
"You are not getting out of here, it's the true definition of impossible."
"Impossible is powerless against the will to do something, and I will get out of here."
"What a wise man you are."
"Cut the crap, and tell me how do I get out of here?"
"I can't tell you that."
"You better do, because if you don't, I won't really hesitate to kill you."
"If I were you I would think twice about this."
"And why is that?"
"Because you wouldn't kill someone that has your life on camera."
"So, you're the guy who was recording me?"
"More like one of the guys."
"So, a group of people is filming my life for Dyrlisia?"
"No, a group of people is filming your life as you go into Dyrlisia."
"By Dyrlisia you mean the state or the company?"
"The state."
"You bastards."
"It's for the best."
"Tell me how do I get the fuck out of here?"
"You have to make your way through the forest, which is a pretty hard task to do. Especially at night."
"So, there's a way out at the end of the forest?"
"If there was an end."
"What do you mean by that?"
"This forest doesn't end, it keeps going."
"How is that possible?"
"They built this forest between Branklin and Trinel."
"What? There are no forests in Branklin."
"There is a forest, but they built walls to prevent people like you from escaping."
"How tall are the walls?"
"Taller than what you'd imagine."
"This can't be happening. It's not possible."
I was thinking deeply about this. What if he was right? What if there's no way out? Will I just die here? I started running forward without looking back. I wanted to see where this forest ends. As I was running, my legs just stopped.
It was hard for me to move. I look under me and I find my feet stuck in the mud. I tried moving it out, but I couldn't. A force pushed me down. I was going down into the mud. I was pushing and pushing, but nothing ever happened. I placed my hand on the mud and tried pushing myself up, but it also didn't work. This is it. I'll die here. I was going down bit by bit.
"Help!" I shouted.
I kept on looking for something that could help me, but there was none. There was a tree next to me. If I held the tree branch and pushed myself up, then I may be able to get out. I held the tree branch and I started pushing myself up. It worked. I was getting out of that loop. My whole body was above the ground, but one foot was still in there.
I kept pushing, I was almost done, but with no introductions, a huge fire was set into the trees around me. Shit. I need to get out as quick as possible. I crawled my way to the top. I started running away from the fire, but it was everywhere. I should go back. I turn around and I see the same guy holding the gun straight to my face.
"Where do you think you're going?" He said.
"I'm going back," I replied.
"Once you're here, there's no going back."
"Get out of my way."
"Keep moving."
"I'm not going anywhere with you."
"You don't really have a choice. Move it."
"He's not going anywhere." A familiar voice said from behind the man's back.
"And who are you?" He asked.
I looked at who was behind that familiar voice, and it was April. Oh my God, she came for me. I couldn't believe what I saw. She shot his hand.
"Let's go. Let's get out of here." She said.
"How did you get in here?" I asked.
"We don't really have time for this Lyn, we need to get out of here first."
"Okay."
She was running as if she studied the place pretty well. It was bizarre how she knew the place. I followed her blindly. It didn't take long for her to get me out of that forest. She sneaked me out of a long hallway that went directly to her car, which was even weirder. I got into her car, and so did my questions. She started driving and so did my thoughts.
"How did you find me?" I asked.
"Every missing person from Branklin ends up here, so it's not rocket science." She replied.
"Then how is it a secret? They're not missing like of course they'll save them."
"Because no one knows about this place, other than me and a couple members from Dyrlisia."
"Wow, okay. Still, I can't believe you came for me. Thanks."
"Of course I will, you saved my life."
"But how did you know the way out?"
"Because I created this place."
