Chapter 4
"Oh Really? Under arrest? You're no knight, you have no authority!" The skinny on said shaking his fist vigorously.
Grant watched him emotionless, the dagger in his left hand moving all about. He glanced at the fat man now as he nodded his head in agreement.
"Sorry gentlemen, but this is indeed knight, i just finished nursing him back to awareness" Herny chirped in.
Grant looked back at the older man. Was he trying to get Grant killed? Did he want his enemy to kill him?
"Ay, is that true? Frank, did you hear that? wounded!" The fat one blurted.
Grant now knew the intimidation wouldn't work. He knew he was in no condition to fight, so he took the first strike. His blade tore through the tall man's skinny body in mid reply. the two halves not completely dead yet. The screams of his pain could be heard as his partner attacked Grant.
The ax came swiftly down, Grant slashed his blade bellow the ax head, trying to shatter or cut the wooden handle. His blade took the hilt strait on, but Grant was too week. The ax came, but at a slower speed, sinking two inches into Grant's shoulder blade. Grant yelled in pain, and dropped to his knee catching himself with his left hand. Blood came rushing out of his right shoulder blade, leaving his dominant hand dormant. It was over.
The sound of steel dropping was heard as Henry rushed for Grant's sword lying on top the forest floor.
The fat man smiled tossing his ax at the running man's feet. The head of the ax hitting home, barring it's steel into Henry's ankle. The alchemist yelled in both horror and pain as he feel arms length from the sword. He gripped Grant' s long sword, unsure what to do with it.
The fat man giggled as he walked forward, pulling a hatchet from his belt. Henry turned to face him pointing the sword at the robbers torso.
"You're too weak to kill old man!"
He pushed the blade away with his fist as he held his ax up high to kill Henry. A firm grip surrounded the bandit' s arm. Grant quickly followed his actions with the stunned man. As the Fat one lost his grip, Grant slammed the hatchet into his collar bone, the head going deep into his body. Grant heard the cracking from the fat man's broken bones. With no mercy, Grant fought through pain placing both his hand on the man's checks before snapping his neck with a satisfying popping sound.
Grant fell backwards, dying from blood lost and pain. Henry crawled to the wounded knight.
"Sir knight! Sir knight, did the ax shatter your collar bone?"
Grant looked at him sternly, grabbing the man's arm.
"I still have to bring you in, this changes nothing."
quickly the man pulled out a bottle of a clear substance and held it so Grant could see it.
"Drink this"
Henry placed it in Grants hand and then reached for something else in his medic pouch. Finding what he needed, the man poured alcohol into the deep cut as Grant screamed in agony.
"That will clean the wound." The alchemist said placing a bandage over the cut and securing it.
Grant was trembling as he nodded, the pain so intense. Agony was the only thing he could feel as he brought the clear liquid that Jones had given him against his lips to drink. He closed his eyes as the cool liquid slowly stopped his trembling. Feeling came back to Grant' s finger tips and he felt refreshed.
He opened his eyes, the pain dispersed. He no longer felt such grueling pain but he still ached from head to toe. He sat up, Henry was gone. Grant hadn't heard a sound. Was he too distracted to have watch him run off?
Grant stood up seeing his sword in it's sheath leaning against a tree. Beside his long sword was his armor, lying on the forest floor. Grant swiftly placed his armor over his body, as he scanners the area. He knew he was still bleeding in his shoulder, but most of the pain had stopped and he couldn't quit now.
Grant dragged his body with his feet with every painful step. He glanced at the forest floor tracking the foot prints left behind by Henry Jones. He could easily see the blood left behind and the scattered and broken leaves from his limping.
Grant stopped in his tracks. What was he doing? He needed proper treatment and bed rest, not to be hunting a criminal. Jones was even kind enough to care for him.
"Jones, if I find you again some day, know it's not over." Grant whispered to himself.
Henry Jones ran as much as he good until Grant was far past out of sight. He looked at his ankle as leaned against a tree. His boot had taken a good chunk for him. He quickly sat down tying another bandage around his ankle to stop the bleeding. The alchemist quickly glanced back from the way he came, making sure Grant wasn't near by.
He took a deep breath before pressing onward. He knew where he was going. He only hoped he could make it in time, before night fall, before the evil of the shadows of night.
