Chapter 17

"We have been in the woods for weeks!" Ruth shouted.

"You are getting on my nerves, quiet!" Grant spat back.

"We could just walk there, follow the road, but no, we have to go around the wall of the sin insted of killing them."

Grant looked at Ruth, his armor covering every opening in his body. It had been four days sense they left the city.

"I told you Ruth, they are not there. There are no signs of life at the fort, I know where they would go if such is the case."

"But why this way? We're in the middle of the forest!"

"Ruth, you have been trying to detour me away from this direction for three days, will you not trust me?"

Ruth stayed quiet as Grant continued moving forward. A soft glow came glowing off the trees. Grant unsheathed his blade as he walked forward, the red and yellow illumination reflecting from his armor. Grabt recognized the light, it was a bon fire.

A smooth stone tower rose three feet from off the ground holding a fire burning steadily.

"What in the name of..." Grant was cut of as he realised something was in the fire, it was a skeleton, mimicking that of a human's. The skull rose as if to look at Sir Smith. The bones leaped from the fire, the skeleton still on fire. The monster wore metal pauldrones and braces, with a heart braker. The flames soon faded, except in the eyes and torso of the demon.

"May the Lord protect me." Grant said under his breathe as the skeleton readied it's double bladed spear.

Grant slashed at the monster chipping at the marrow at the demon's leg. The spear came down at the man nearly instantly but he made a last second dodge role avoiding the blow. He strikes again chipping away once more.

The giant mad a wide sweep as Grant struggled to block. The round steel pool slammed into the man, slightly dented his armor as he he slammed against the ground. the spear came down at him, ready to stick him like a pig. Grant was able to deflect the attack, as the blade scratched his armor and slammed into the ground. He roled to his knees cutting through the skeleton's leg completely.

The giant toumbled to the ground, as Grant slashed of its other leg. A knife was struck into Grant's back, as he instantly turned around hitting the assaulter with his palmel. He hit Ruth strait in the hed, knocking her to the ground unconscious. The pole came around again throwing the knight into a tree in the near distance. Grant had blocked the attack, protecting him from the edge of the demon's blade, but his breathe had been forced from him.

Sir Smith huffed as he glanced up at the skeleton. His body had started to become familiar with the pain, a dull lulling feeling was all he could feel. Grant got to his feet as his enemy did the same.

The double bladed spear was used as a cane as the demon supported itself. Grant charged forward kicking the spear in and pulling his blade up against the skull of the bone giant. The knife in his back was driven deeper as his armor slid across the leaves.

Grant grasped with pain, as he pushed the pile of bones away. The soft glow of then fire gone from his sight. the skeleton's fire had been dowsed by none other than Grant Smith.

The man pulled off his helmet and breast plate as he treated his wound. Ruth starred at him as he rapped an bandage around his torso.

"A little sore in the head, witch?" Grant said, finishing the job.

"Indeed brutal knight."

"So why lead me astray, would good does it do you?"

"Because," The witch replied as Grant grabbed his sword once more.

Sir Smith approached the woman, and tied her hands with rope.

"That's not a reason." The knight said.

"Do I need a reason?" The woman smiled.

Grant hated witches.
