Three Things you love besides writing/reading?

1) education:  multiple subjects (let’s just call it ‘anthropology’), both learning and teaching

2) animals

3) beading

Three Things you hate?

1) people who are abusive

2) arsonists

3) getting up in the morning

Why do you write?

I can’t help it. It’s an addiction that evolved out of my reading addiction.

Out of all your stories, which one is your favorite?

The ones set in the world of ‘Havoc’s Daughters’.

How do you create your characters?

Some I flesh out around a set of parameters, to fulfill a specific need. Others bang on my skull and demand to be let out.

Out of your characters, which one are you the most like?

All of them have something of ‘me’ in them. I can point at specific character traits and say, “That’s me,” but they’re spread over a dozen characters.

What do you do when you have writer’s block?

Work on another story, or another part of the story, or edit…or do homework :)

How do you plan out your stories?

Some I chart out. Some I just follow along for the ride and see what the characters do. Some accrete over time, as various bits and pieces stick together…and then several stories stick together and before I know it I have over a millennium of history and know everything from the prevailing winds and ocean currents to the plate tectonics and I’m wondering, “How did THAT happen?” Remember what I said about education and anthropology? It provides LOTS of material for accretion :)
