Chapter 3
Alice closed the door to Marty's stall and locked it, she had a good lesson. She was excited for her dad to bring lunch, hopefully he went to Sally's and got her favorite sub. Maybe he got some cool food from some exotic restaurant! She sat on the bench in front of the stables, waiting for her dad. Soon he drove up to the stables and parked the car in front of her, she jumped up off the bench and happily got in the car.
"Hey dad!" The young girl exclaimed while buckling up her seat belt.
"Hey kiddo, how was your lesson? Was Marty a good boy?" The older man questioned.
"It was great, Marty was a superstar and got tons of treats afterwards." Alice spoke with a joyful tone in her voice.
"That's good to hear. Want to eat our lunch at the park?" Her father asked.
"Yeah! Let's do that!" She said excitedly, eating in the park was always tons of fun.
They drove together to the park, the drive was fun. They talked about funny stories and listened to music, she loved her father and couldn't ask for a better one. He was a goofball but at times when he was serious or stern, you knew to be afraid. Once they arrived, Alice climbed out of the car and so did her father. He grabbed a plastic bag from the back seat then locked the doors, they found a nice spot to sit, one without any ant hills and had shade. He opened up the bag and pulled out two subs from Sally's and a two bags of kettle chips, yum! She happily grabbed her sub and bag of chips and happily ate, weekends were the best, they always did fun things and of course her lessons were on Saturdays! They finished their food and threw away their garbage then took a short walk around the park's pond. The weather was nice and the squirrels played around in the trees, it reminded Alice of how one time when she was in a lesson Marty spooked at a couple of squirrels running around and tackling each other. She almost fell off but managed to stay on, the other girls at the stable still teased Marty about it, even though he didn't understand a word they were saying.
An hour later her dad and Alice headed back home, as soon as they got back Alice trotted up the stairs and into her room. She flopped down on her bed and opened up her laptop, she checked her email for any new horse ads. She had her eye on the incoming horse auction, although she didn't have enough to buy a horse yet, she still wanted to go. The auction was next weekend and it was only a half and hour drive away from her house, the trouble was she didn't know if her father would let her attend it. Thirty minutes later her father walked into her bedroom and sat on her bed next to her.
"Hey kid, looking at horse ads again?"
"Yeah, I'm getting a little closer to my goal"
"That's good, eh?"
"Did you need me for something?" Alice asked curiously.
"Well, I didn't want to tell you this earlier but I was offered a promotion at work. It's a huge raise from before and I might even be able to afford a horse for you, the trouble is I have to work through the weekend afternoons but I will get Wednesday off. I told them I had to ask you first."
Her heart races with the thought of a horse for herself, her very own horse!
"Yes! You should take it!!" She quickly responds to her dad.
"Woah, calm down kiddo. Alright, alright, I'll accept the offer." He smiles at seeing Alice's eagerness then gets up and leaves the room to go call back his boss.
She closes her laptop and lays down on the bed, a horse of her own. It seemed so amazing that it was hard to believe, her very own horse! She daydreamed about what her horse would look like, all the awards they would win together, and how happy her father would be now that they didn't have to worry about money.
