Chapter 4- It
It appeared to be sleeping, occasionally shifting every now and then. It mumbled noises that I couldn't understand, some high-pitched, and some that seemed to stretch on forever.
My first instinct was to catch it something, for it didn't appear to be well-fed. She was abnormally skinny, and I could practically see the outlines of her bones.
What do humans eat? I wondered. Berries? Meat? Leaves? I may have known what humans were, but I didn't know anything about them.
Suddenly, the being stirred. An arm reached into the air, and its jaws parted in a yawn. Its eyes opened, revealing two swirling brown orbs.
When it saw me, it froze. Its breathing seemed to still, and its eyes were wide.
"D-d-dragon..." it squeaked. Amazingly, I could understand it.
I won't hurt you, I said, before realising that it couldn't hear. Dragons communicated silently, through their thoughts.
However, it seemed to perk up. "I heard a voice in my head..." it said. "Did you just talk to me?"
At this, I was startled. A dragon and a human, understanding each other...
You can hear me? I tentatively asked, wondering if it was real.
"I...I hear you" it replied, her look changing from afraid to awestruck.
The two of us stared at each other for a while, too startled to say a thing. It seemed like hours passed before a question finally formed in my head.
Male or female? I asked. It seemed offensive to keep calling the human 'it'.
"Female." It told me. So it was a she. "Can I say the same about you?"
You can. She seemed very interested, all traces of fear gone.
I had finally found someone.
