nomophobia-help-line

Today, I’ve been self diagnosed with nomophobia, a phone addiction. I truly own myself up to that.

My hours were primarily focused on this device, completely detaching myself from the real world.

After a year of completely stuck in that swallowing hole of my addiction, I finally want this day to be a change for me. And for all of you reading this.

So I started with the first step of my self recovery...

FINDING THE REAL WORLD WHEN YOUR BATTERY IS LOW:

Dora The Explorer:

I felt like Dora Explora with her backpack and her enthusiastic perspective on her adventures. The moment I stepped out of the house it’s like I’ve completely shapeshifted to someone new or just completely fueled. How could I have missed all this greenery and these blooming flowers? The smell of life. My phone smells like metal, nothing soothing about it. So why was I so disconnected from the realism? From life? Because I wanted to procrastinate and be lazy.

You too should start exploring your surroundings, the smell of LIFE.

Baked:

If you like to bake like me, you should try this as your part of self recovery. It calms the mind and fulfills your tastebuds. Instead of posting the image of your finished pastry, visit someone and gift them this. Their smile will be rewarding and you’ll feel connected to the real world. Go and try this!

Go! Go!:

That moment you start moving your body faster than you usually would, your body starts pumping with adrenaline and dopamines. Even though my body was a jelly skeleton, my soul was nourished. If you don’t like pushing yourself too hard or you simply don’t want to do that amount of exercising, try jumping on a trampoline or perhaps do hast walking.

Me Day:

Put on your favorite face mask, your favorite pajama set or your favorite body lotion. It’s alright if you use it all up since its YOUR day. Light up scented candles, take a bath, paint your nails or listen to your type of music. Let your body relax.

Note To Self:

Write a message for yourself. Something that when you look at it makes you remember that you should give yourself more time without a technological device. It will start to become more natural the more you do it.

Through The Looking Glass:

When you’re hanging out with your friends, try not to sit on your phone through the discussion. You have your phone every single day and your friends won’t be always available to hang out so don’t miss out on this opportunity and appreciate this day. Your phone shouldn’t be the biggest priority.

YOU:

The most important part of this chapter is yourself. Your identity. Who you really are without your phone. Countless hours spent on your phone won’t build you as a person, won’t let you discover new things that you can physically feel. I’m not saying to completely discard your phone and trash it but to give yourself more time away from it. So that you don’t forget that there is still life outside your social media. Just start minimizing your hours spent on your phone and you’ll feel like you have accomplished something since you’ll learn to not procrastinate too often.
