First Encounter.

"You sure this is the place?"

A voice?

"Yeah, they said it's been abandoned for some years."

Two voices?

You follow the sound, not that they could see or hear you, nobody could.

The first person you see is a boy and he has dark hair, freckles dotted across his nose and cheeks and is wearing a baggy orange hoodie, the male taking items from the dusty shelves and inspecting them before throwing them into a cardboard box.

"Only keep the stuff that looks valuable, the junk can just go in the trash." The second voice reaches your attention once more, drawing your gaze past the raven and toward a blonde instead.

The blonde has much wider and more innocent-looking eyes, he's wearing a dark blue button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and a pair of black gloves on his hands, his fingers picking up items much more delicately than the other as he studies them.

Your attention shifting toward the fireplace behind the blonde, a sense of hope finally beginning to rise in the pit of your stomach, after so many years.

I've been here for so long...please release me.

You end up following the two, your fingers instinctively trying to reach out to touch each of them at multiple times to gain their attention but as you'd expected, your touch goes through them and aside from getting a slight chill from the contact, they otherwise don't feel it.

A deflated sigh finally escaping your lips as you watch the blonde beside you.

You knew it was unlikely, but you still hoped.

Still though...

You couldn't help but stare at the boy's face, watching him intently as he inspects a trophy he picked up from a shelf before he finally lowers it into the cardboard box.

He's pretty...

It's only when they try to leave, your panic rises again.

It seems they were just here to clear up but if you let them go now, you won't know when the next person arrives. It could be many more years from now. In a moment of desperation, you look at the mirror sat above the fireplace, your stare fixating hard on it as it begins to shake and attract the boys' attention.

Yes!

"Ah, hell no, I'm outta here."

No!

"Don't be a coward, Ace! It's just the wind, it is cold in here after all..." The blonde putting the box down as he approaches the mirror, gently placing his hand on it and stopping the movement, earning a disgruntled huff from his brother.

"You're about to get dragged into that damn thing by a vengeful spirit, mark my words."

Well...you might be a spirit, but you're certainly not vengeful.

A smirk etching itself into your lips when you notice the blonde's attention wander to the candlesticks attached to the wall either side of the mirror, your eyes lighting up with glee for the first time in so long when he runs his gloved fingers over one of them.

Yes, you're so close...

"What is it?" The raven questions, walking through you to join his brother as the blonde lightly jiggles the candle, realisation shining in his eyes before he pulls it down, a loud click sounding and being closely followed by the sound of a passage opening.

Well done!

"It's a secret room?" The blonde murmurs more to himself than his sibling, his eyes flickering down to the fireplace to see that a false panel had opened up, leading into a tiny room that he'd have to crouch to enter, not that he could get in there regardless.

A chest is in the way.

"Screw this, Sabo! Have you ever seen Coraline?!" The raven blurts once more but is ultimately ignored.

The blonde otherwise known as Sabo kneels down, reaching into the passage and grabbing the chest's handle before dragging it out into the living room, the wood scraping loudly against the old floor and seemingly causing the slightly older boy further discomfort.

"You aren't gonna open that thing, are you?!"

"There might be something valuable inside!"

"Or a corpse!" Admittedly Ace isn't far off with that one, your smirk widening into a bright and genuine smile when the blonde opens the chest up regardless, flinging the lid open and causing cloud of dust to fly into the air, making the two cough.

But once it clears, their sights land on the thing you've been longing for the most.

A porcelain doll made many years ago to look just like you and beside it...

"A book?" Sabo murmurs while taking the thick work of literature.

"And an old doll?" Ace adds, picking up the item as your perspective starts to change, your soul being sucked back into the old object and your eyes beginning to see things from her point of view. "It's creepy."

Which in this case is the freckled raven glowering down at you.

Rude.

"Is it porcelain? They can sell for a lot, right?" Sabo questions while he turns a page in the book, although he merely frowns at the letters before him, they're so worn that he can't even tell what was once written there. "This...looks like an old diary..."

It was actually a spell book.

"Awesome, let's sell it quick, yeah? You ever seen the movie Dead Silence?" Ace grumbles while carrying you over to the box by your arm but doesn't seem to be interested in the book at all, something that makes you pout to yourself, but at least his brother tucks it into his coat, seemingly happy to take it with him.

Thankfully one of them has a brain.

Although your attention soon snaps to the boy holding you when you feel your arm click, the aged material threatening to crack and shatter.

"Oi, Freckles! This is no way to handle a lady!" The boy stops in his tracks at your words, holding you up to his face, still by your arm much to your annoyance, his dark brows raised and his puzzled stare locking with yours. "You're going to break me!"

Of course, it does you little good.

The boy letting out a horrified squeak as he launches you across the room, thankfully the puffy dress your doll form was put into long ago cushions the fall, your painted brows knitting together as you grumble to yourself.

"Was that really necessary?!"

"Whoa, what the hell?!" The blonde finally voices as he rushes past his brother, who seems to be frozen in shock, and kneels down by your side. "You can talk?!"

"This...This is why you don't mess with creepy chests in creepy houses!" The raven finally finding his words as he backs himself up, far away from you and into the door leading out into the overgrown front yard.

"I am harmless!" You speak quickly, before they bolt.

I need my body...but if I tell them how to get it, they'll probably throw me back in that box.

"Harmless, my ass! Let's go, Sabo!"

Thankfully, the blonde doesn't seem to listen to his brother, instead just staring at you with curiosity and even a hint of intrigue in his eyes, at least you've got his ear. If not the other's. "D-Don't put me back or sell me, please! I swear I won't hurt you!"

I can't handle another year here!

"I...won't."

"Sabo?!"
