Chapter 2: The note
The week passed as slow as it always does. My life was a mantra.
Waking up.
Going to school.
Study until my brain can take no more.
Eat.
Sleep.
Repeat.
I studied hard and was always on top of the class, but my life was boring. It really was. And only the library, books and my writing could heal me. It was my only medicine to heal my loneliness. It's not that I didn't had friends or some sort, it's just... It felt like no one understood me. I don't want to be a asshole, but I always considered myself older than I actually was. I mean, no one thinks the way I think and no one reads the books I read, not that a person from my age, which is 17 by the way, reads books. They, well, they considered me as a nerd and that was something I was proud of. And yet, here I was, in the library, consumed by another book.
I was focused until I saw a note been slid under my book. I looked down and read it.
Hi.
I looked up from the note into a pair of beautiful blue eyes that might have haunted my dreams a couple of times. Nick.
'Hi.' His voice rang pleasantly in your ears and a smile soon danced on your face.
'Hi,' I said, maybe a little too exited. He had the same glint in his eyes as last week and it made my stomach... do weird things.
'Nice book,' he commented. My face lit up even more, if it was only possible.
'Yes, indeed. Have you read it?' He laughed awkwardly. Yes! This time it wasn't me. What? What if it was because of me? Shit.
'To be honest. No.' Phew. Not because of me. I laughed at his comment and shrugged.
'How goes settling in?' I asked. I mentally patted myself for keeping the conversation flowing.
'Quite good actually. Thanks. Everthing is settled and we discoverd a few nice pubs.' You smiled at him.
'Good. Did you visit Jack's already?'
'No, but isn't that more a tea house?' You shrugged.
'Yeah, but you can take your friends there if you want something more relaxing than a pub. It's a nice place.' He smiled a sweet one at you, which showed off his perfect white teeth.
'Perhaps, but they aren't really into relaxing things. I, on the other hand, do. Maybe you can take me there some time, I'll pay.' He winked and I coudn't do anything else but blush.
'Yeah,' I mumble, just staring into his ocean blue eyes. My stomach churned pleasantly.
'I mean it's still Saturday and it's only two o'clock... Why don't you take me there?' Nick asked sweet. I bit my lip in thoughts. Mom woudn't mind, she would actually be glad that I went out with a boy... Wel... a man. Yes, he was a man. An adult. Say no.
'Yes, sure.' The earlier pat on my back I gave myself turned into a facepalm. Idiot. Yes, I am an idiot. If I get kidnapped, it would be my own damn fault.
'Great,' he said, his voice was delighted, which I was happy about. But... this meant nothing, right? He started to get up and I did the same. I might have left the book on the table, but that didn't matter at the moment.
We stepped inside Jack's tea house and Jack, a gay, but very friendly man almost immediately approached us.
'Nat!' he greeted me. (Okay, I admit. I went visiting this tea house way more than I should, but yet, it is so cozy I can't resist.)
'Hello, Jack.' I waved at him and smiled warmly at him.
'Oh, not alone and writing this time, are we?' Jack winked at me and I instantly turned crimson red and it didn't get better when I looked at Nick, who was trying to hide the smile, but failed miserably at it. 'Come follow me, lovebirds.' I could curse a mouthful of words at him, but I resisted the urge. Nick also blushed a little at Jack his comment, but seemed to shake it off. Right, Natasha, just do the same. He took us to one of his cozy tables at the back of the tea house. 'Please take a seat and enjoy each other. But not too much of course. This is still a public place.' Jack winked once again and I rolled my eyes at him. Jack left and I started playing with a napkin that lay on the table.
'Are you nervous?' Nick asked. My eyes met his and I nodded, shy. 'You don't have to be. I won't bite.' I laughed a little and kept looking in his mesmerizing eyes. God, gather me if I melt. 'Tell me a bit about yourself.' He tilted his head to the side to concentrate on my words, but those never came. After a while I started speaking.
'I- I still go to school. I need to go to school Monday. I- uh, ...' I laugh nervous. 'What do you want to know?' He shrugged.
'Whatever pops into your mind. Even the most dull things, I would still be interested.' I nod.
'Well, I write books. Thrillers and fantasy to be more precise. I am pretty boring.' He smiles and then leans forward.
'I can say you're pretty, but you're everything but boring.' My cheeks flushed a bright red once again and I giggled. His accent!
'You go to university?' he asked. What?
'N-no, still in my fifth year.' He looked surprised and let his eyes slid over your body.
'Really?' A smile crept up his face.
'Yes.' I looked out of the window. 'Why?' He shrugged and almost looked guilty.
'You look... You don't look... Just... You are interesting.' I cocked up an eyebrow. Oh my God. Was this a bad thing? I do not know why, but I want him to like me.
'Thank you?' It was more a question than a statement, but he didn't seem to react so I decided to take that as a compliment.
'This is a tea house, they probably don't have a cold beer, huh?' he joked. 'But have they coffee?' I nodded my head. 'Good, then I take one. What do you want to have?' Man, I like his accent.
'I'll have a mint tea. I always do. I'm kind of predictable.' I laughed along with him.
'Don't worry, we all are, in some way.' I smile at him and then gather all my courage to ask him a burning question.
'Well, I told you a little about myself. What about you? What do you fill your days with?' He smirked and scratched his chin.
'I... am in a band.' Oh, sexy. What? No. Yes... Yes, a very big yes. 'I play the bass.'
'Really?' My smile was getting wider by the second. 'Well, you're very interesting yourself, Nick.' I finally let go of the napkin and start to relax. 'What is it called.' He seemed to hesitate to answer that question.
'The Arctic Monkeys.' You frowned. Confusion engulfs you and you swallow slowly. A bell at the back of your head started ringing. He tried smiling, but he was to busy watching your reaction. Jack approached the both of you.
'Have you two made up your mind already. What do you wish to drink?' He smiled sweetly at you and played with his silver necklace.
'C-' Nick cleared his throat. 'Coffee please.' I was still gawking at Nick.
'Sweetheart?' Jack called. I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at him, dumbfounded.
'Mint tea please.'
'As always.' Jack smiled and went away.
'The Arctic Monkeys?' I asked again.
'So you do know us?' Nick asked twitchy. I nodded and laughed a second.
'So you are Nick O'Malley?' I questioned. He nodded and smiled genuine.
'Yeah, you don't mind, don't you?' I could tell you he was getting nervous.
'No, of course not. I do not know you guys very well, but... You are just still Nick for me.' He smiled and sipped his coffee when Jack had brought it to us.
'Good to know.' He winked and put his coffee down.
We finished our drinks and I was getting my wallet out of my backpack.
'Natasha?' Nicks voice said softly. 'I invited you, so I'll pay.' I gave him a small smile, which he answered with a wink. He paid and we left the shop.
'Could I have your phone number?' Nick asked me, shy. 'Please?' He put a strand of hair behind his ear.
'Yeah, sure.' He gave me his phone and I put my number in it. 'Could we meet again?' I could't help myself but sounding eager to know when our next appointment would be. Well, maybe there woudn't be another, but- my thoughts were interrupted by him saying the words I loved hearing.
'I would be delighted to meet you again, Natasha. I'll text you later, okay?'
'Okay,' I squeaked. He smiled. 'I should probably be going. My mom...' I never finished that sentence.
'See you later...' I took in his scent, and then turned around to walk to the busstop. With my thoughts lingering about him.
