Chapter 6
To your delight, Dmitri was texting you much more frequently than you thought he was able to. Of course, the two of you were busy since he was military personnel and you were the nurse of not only him but the rest of the squad as well. The fact that the two of you made time to send each other videos or even just to say hi or send weird little gifs was more than enough for you. There were days when you wouldn't even see him, so those text messages meant so much more to you. Also, you were pretty spot on with your boss believing that by the way you and your dad act since he is your dad that, that was the green light when it wasn't. There was no one you could really complain to about this besides your dad, but you didn't want him to become more of a papa bear than he already was. You loved him too much to risk him losing his job, something that he worked so hard for. It was your boss that was out of line here and the only one to set him straight was you and you were gonna find the courage to do so without jeopardizing your own job.
"What are you thinking so hard about over there?" You looked up expecting it to be Ghost but to your surprise, it was Konig. Usually, he kept to himself since he also had social anxiety, but he had the kind where he was just a big, awkward man.
"I am thinking about how I'm gonna get the boss to lay off me without jeopardizing my own job or getting my dad involved because that is the very last thing I want to do. My dad worked his entire life for the rank that he has and I refuse for him to risk losing it because my boss is a pervert." Konig sat down beside you on one of the med beds as he hummed and looked up to the ceiling thinking. You looked up too hoping that the ceiling would open up and give you some answers but you knew that wasn't going to happen.
"He is your boss right?" You nodded your head in agreement as well as hummed an affirmative " Military personnel and nurses have two different kinds of bosses. We listened to him because he is your boss but if you were to get real technical and by the book, he is not our boss. He can represent us because he is military himself but by technicality, he is not our boss." You didn't wanna jump the gun here and assume he was trying to hint at.
"You may continue so I can fully understand what you are trying to say." You were trying to keep the hope out of your voice, but you are pretty sure you failed. Thankfully, Konig did not respond or react instead he continued to explain.
"We can say or do just about whatever we want and he cannot dishonorably discharge us. He will have to go through a lot of loopholes and prove why he feels we deserve to be discharged and to be honest, I, Ghost, and Dmitri are a very special case that have special privileges that we are not entitled to discuss, but we are allowed to use whenever we want." You found yourself sitting straight up staring at him, not bothering to hide the smile, and he was staring right back at you with a slight crinkle in his eyes.
"Are you serious? You wouldn't get into any kind of trouble? I wouldn't want you guys to get into trouble but if you say that you can do what you said, even though you didn't say specifically what you could, I would...I would be happy." If you could somehow get the boss off your back and leave you alone and return to just being your boss, you would take the risk and whatever they say they're gonna do you are clueless about it. You probably shouldn't be condoning such reckless behavior but then again, they are much stronger and smarter than you when it comes to all this military stuff. You just wanted to spend more time with Dimitri and have a strictly professional relationship with your boss.
"I wouldn't say it if I couldn't do it sunshine... and I am sure Dmitri will be more than welcome to help you." Konig knew that Dmitri was right outside the door, listening to your conversation because that's just the way he was when it came to liking someone but you have no clue he was eavesdropping.
"This means so much to me, and I don't even know how I can repay you guys or thank you." It was quiet for a few before Konig cleared his throat, getting your attention.
"If you wish to repay us, all I could say is that just be nice to Dmitri and understand him. All of us have been through a lot, but especially him. He is very shy, more shy than all of us, to be honest. I like the guy, to be honest. I always have and it's nice to see him acting normal and I would like for that behavior to continue. You brought that behavior out of him and I'm gonna make sure that the two of you continue to make each other happy, no matter what kind of relationship the two of you build." You were in awe, by just how kind this gentle giant in front of you was. You knew realistically there was nothing gentle about him. There is a reason why they used him as a battering ram and for hostage situations but the way he just spoke about Dmitri shows that he deeply cares for him and his crew.
"Dmitri Is the first man that I actually want to know. I want to know him. I want to know the real him, the fake him, the shy him, the angry him. I never felt like this before about anybody and it's so strange and exhilarating and scary all at the same time. I do not want to rush this as he is shy I would never do that to him. I will never want to push him away. I know he has many layers, and I have no problem waiting patiently and peeling them back layer by layer. I would love for him to do the same to me but only if he feels similar to how I feel. I know it's fast to be feeling like this, but... The heart can't help what it wants I guess." It felt good to admit your feelings to someone a stranger. of all that you knew wouldn't judge you. Unbeknownst to you, Dmitri was still standing outside and heard everything. He was already formulating things he wanted to say, things he wanted to do, and making a whole bunch of plans already with you in his future.
"I do not think you realize that the two of you are much closer to an understanding than you realize." You hummed and turned your head to the side, not understanding what he meant, but he chose to not answer you. He simply looked at his watch and stood up, waving bye to you and exiting the medical ward, leaving you alone with your thoughts. You really hoped he was correct and a few hallways down was Dimitri right behind Konig, thinking the same thing. He really hoped you meant everything you said because it's exactly how he feels as well.

Heyyyyy guess who's back after almost three months with another update! Yes, it's a bit short but, I now have plans for this story and hopefully, it will be no more than 15 chapters long. This was meant to be a short story but, of course, I don't really know how to do short. If anyone is still reading this, thank you soooo much for taking the time to read and enjoy my stories!
