Chapter_38

As Meryl slowly opened her eyes, she felt a sharp pain in the back of her head. She whimpered softly, unsure of where she was or what had happened.

She took a few moments to adjust to the light that streamed in through the window, her vision slowly coming into focus.

Slowly, it all came back to her. The argument with Tyrson, the anger and frustration that had boiled over. She remembered storming out of the apartment, and leaving in Cassie's car with Michelle. And then... nothing. Until now.

Meryl's eyes fluttered open, the room slowly coming into focus. She could see a bed, a table, a chair but everything was still a bit hazy. She blinked a few times, trying to clear her vision.

As the blurriness faded, Meryl could make out the faint outline of a figure standing in the corner of the room. "Where am I?" she asked, her voice shaking.

"You're with me, dear," a voice replied. It was deep and velvety, but something about it made Meryl's skin crawl. "Welcome."

Meryl felt her heart skip a beat as the figure stepped out of the shadows. It was Ludovic, the man who had haunted her nightmares for months.

The memories flooded back to her in a jumbled rush. She remembered the kidnapping, the darkness, the fear.

And then, there was Cassie, bleeding and unconscious. The last thing she remembered was calling for help, and then... nothing.

"Cassie?!" Meryl's heart lurched as she struggled to make sense of her situation. Her thoughts were jumbled and confused.

Meryl frantically tried to move her arms, but they were bound to the bed.

"Easy there, tiger," he said with a chuckle, trying to brush the hair from her face. But she turned her head away, out of his reach.

His amusement faded as he tried to grab her chin, forcing her to look at him. But before he could, she bit down hard on his thumb.

He let out a startled yelp and jerked his hand back, Ludovic reacted quickly, his hand striking her cheek with a loud slap. Meryl felt the sting of his hand as her lips began to bleed.

Hot tears stung her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.

He reached out and grabbed a fistful of her hair, yanking her head up so she was forced to look at him.

She whimpered in pain as he tilted her head forward. His face was cold and expressionless, and his eyes were dark.

"Tyrson isn't coming for you," he said, his voice low and menacing. "No one is. Not while I have you here."

She let out a sob, the tears spilling over now. "You're wrong," she said, her voice trembling. "Tyrson will find me. He'll come for me."

He let out a cold laugh, his eyes flashing with anger.
She stared at him defiantly, then spit in his face.

He let out a cold, cruel laugh. His eyes flashed with rage, and for a moment, she thought he might strike her again.

But he just stood there, his face expressionless, as he wiped the saliva from his cheek with his handkerchief.

He pulled out his phone and started playing a video. She watched.

The video showed Tyrson and Julia, both lying on a bed. Their upper bodies were bare, and they were clearly in a state of intimacy.

Meryl's laughter filled the room, echoing off the walls. It was a wild, unhinged sound, like something out of a horror movie. Ludovic's eyes widened in surprise and a touch of fear.

"You think I would believe that?" Meryl asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "You could have easily staged the whole thing, just to get me here."

"Smart, huh?" he said, smirking. "But whether you believe it or not, this is happening. Tyrson and Julia are going to have a baby, and there's nothing you can do to stop it."

The smug look on his face made Meryl's blood boil. She wanted to punch him, to scream at him, to make him understand just how wrong he was. But she knew that would only play into his hands. Instead, she forced herself to remain calm.

"Stay with me, Cassie," Manson said, his voice gentle but urgent. "You're going to be fine, you hear me? Just hang on a little longer. I promise you're going to be okay."

But Cassie's eyelids were growing heavy, and her breaths were shallow and weak. She struggled to keep her eyes open, but the darkness was calling to her, and she could feel herself slipping away.

"We need to get her to the operating room, now!" Manson yelled to the nurses, who quickly wheeled her away on a gurney.

In the operating room, a team of doctors and nurses rushed to prepare Cassie for surgery. They cut away her clothes and hooked her up to machines that beeped and whirred.

As he stood there, he couldn't help but think about Cassie. He didn't know what it was about her that had made him care so much, but he knew he wouldn't be able to rest until she was out of danger.

"Sir?" the nurse said, gently tapping him on the shoulder. "Sorry to interrupt, but the other patient has regained consciousness and is asking for her mother."

Michelle was awake? His thoughts were racing as he turned to face the nurse. "Where is she?" he asked.

"She's in room four-oh-seven," the nurse replied. "I can take you there."

Manson nodded and followed the nurse down the hall to the ward where Michelle had been admitted.

he'd gotten a call from the hospital. Since he was the last person Cassie had called, they'd tracked him down and asked him to come in.

When he arrived, he was shocked to learn that Cassie had been attacked while Meryl was kidnapped. And that Michelle, who had witnessed the attack had fainted from the shock.

"Don't be a scaredy-cat," Michelle's small voice called out as Manson entered the room and took a seat next to her on the hospital bed. She snuggled closer to him, her body trembling with fear.

"Is Aunt Cassie okay?" she asked, her voice quivering. "And my mom?"

Manson wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. "Cassie is going to be just fine," he assured her. "And your mom is strong and brave. She'll be okay too."

As soon as he left Michelle's room, he pulled out his phone and dialed Tyrson's number.

The phone rang and rang, but there was no answer. He'd been trying to reach Tyrson since he'd heard about the incident, but he couldn't get through.

A sense of dread crept over him. What if something had happened to Tyrson too?

He needed to find out what was going on. First things first, he had to find Tyrson. And then he could figure out what was happening with Meryl.

*

Tyrson woke with a groan, a dull ache throbbing in his neck. As he sat up, the muffled cry of a woman pierced the haze of his slumbering mind.

He instinctively reached for his neck, his fingers brushing against a tender spot.

As he came to his senses, he realized that the cry was coming from a woman huddled in the corner of the room. She was half-dressed, her body wrapped in a duvet.

He blinked, trying to clear his vision. The woman's features came into the woman's features came into focus, and he recognized her. It was Julia

He scrambled to his feet and his eyes widened as he realized he was clad only in a pair of boxer shorts

he couldn't remember how he'd gotten here. His heart thundered in his chest as he took in the sight of Julia in the corner, her body covered in a duvet, her hair matted with sweat.

"Julia?" he asked, his voice trembling. "What's going on? How did I get here?"

As Tyrson approached her, his frustration mounting, he felt a sense of dread growing inside him. "Julia, please," he begged, his voice wavering.

"I need you to tell me what's happening. Can you please say something?"

But Julia remained silent, her body shaking with each sob.

"Fuckin tell me what happened!" Tyrson yelled. But Julia's sobbing only grew louder.

Finally, she turned to face him, her eyes red and puffy. "You...you raped me, Tyrson," she whispered.

"What?" Tyrson exclaimed, his mind reeling.

"Julia, what are you talking about?" Tyrson asked, his voice growing desperate.

She wiped the tears from her face, her eyes blazing with rage and hurt. "I trusted you, Tyrson," she cried.

"If you wanted to be with me, you should have told me. We could have worked things out. Why would you do this?"

Tyrson's mind raced as he tried to make sense of the situation. "I raped you?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

"You're not going to deny it, are you?" Julia asked, her voice laced with bitterness.

Tyrson scoffed, trying to hold on to his disbelief. "How can I deny something I don't remember?" he countered. "I have no recollection of doing anything like that.

"Well, I have evidence," Julia retorted, her eyes flashing. "You can deny it all you want, but I know what you did."

Tyrson continued to ignore her, his eyes scanning the room for his clothes. He spotted them on the floor and quickly dressed himself, his mind racing.

Julia's voice rose in anger and frustration. "Why are you being so stubborn?" she shouted. "Why can't you just admit what you did? What kind of monster are you?"

Tyrson said nothing, his silence only further enraging Julia. She was hurt, and she wanted answers. But Tyrson didn't have any to give.

Tyrson opened his mouth, his words spilling out in a rush. "If I had raped you, where are the bruises? And why do you have evidence? If I had attacked you, you wouldn't have had time to gather anything. And why did I wake up in this bed, with no memory of what happened?"

Julia's eyes widened in surprise, her mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. She knew she had been caught.

Tyrson knew her well, and he knew she was capable of deception and manipulation.

Tyrson knew deep down that he would never have taken advantage of Julia, even if he'd been drunk. He simply didn't see her in that way...she was a friend, nothing more.

"You want to play hardball?" Julia muttered, her tone suddenly changing from angry to cold and calculated. Her face went blank, the mask of emotion slipping away.

Tyrson's voice was low, but it carried a dangerous edge. "I won't be easy on you," he warned, his eyes flashing with a hint of anger. "Be prepared for whatever comes your way."

With that, he turned on his heel and left the room, the sound of Julia's hysterical screaming following him out.

Outside, he climbed into his car and retrieved his second phone from the glove compartment.

His fingers moved swiftly, dialing Manson's number as he started the engine and drove off.

*

"Let me out! Please, somebody, anyone!" Meryl sobbed, pounding on the door with her fists.

She had managed to wriggle free of the ropes that had been binding her, but she was still trapped inside the room. All she wanted was to know that Cassie was okay.

The fear and desperation in her voice seemed to echo off the walls, but there was no response.

Meryl's heart skipped a beat as the door suddenly swung open, throwing her to the floor with a sickening thud. She gasped for air, her body trembling as she struggled to right herself.

Through her tears, she saw Ludovic standing over her, a dark look in his eyes. He seemed drunk, his movements slow and unsteady. But his face was devoid of any emotion as he began to undo his belt.

"What are you doing?" Meryl asked, a sickening dread welling up inside her as she pieced together what he planned to do.

"No! No, please!" she screamed, lunging for the door. But Ludovic's reflexes were still quick, and he seized her waist, hauling her back onto the bed with a force that knocked the air out of her lungs.

"You're mine, Meryl," he hissed, his eyes burning with desire as he held her down. "No one else will have you."

Meryl pleaded with him, her voice trembling with fear. "Please, Hans. I'm begging you. Don't do this." But he was beyond reasoning, too consumed by his desire to stop.

Meryl thrashed against him, her nails digging into his skin as she fought for freedom.

But Ludovic's strength was too much for her to overcome. He pinned her to the bed, his weight crushing her as she gasped for air.

With a furious snarl, he ripped her blouse, leaving her exposed in her sports bra. Then he yanked down her skirt, revealing her lingerie.

Meryl's voice wavered as she begged, "Please...for the sake of my baby." Her words seemed to penetrate Ludovic's drunken haze, and he paused, his eyes narrowing as he tried to make sense of what he'd just heard.

"What did you say?" he growled, his breath heavy with the stench of alcohol.

Meryl's body trembled as she repeated, "I'm pregnant." She stared up at him.
