So Much Sleeping
CHAPTER 16
TRIS POV~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up to nurses surrounding my bed instead of Tobias, mom, or dad. I start to freak out.
"WHERE ARE YOU TAKING ME!" I try to scream. It comes out more like a hoarse whisper.
"Oh, sweetheart don't worry. We are just taking you to a more relaxed atmosphere. You don't need all the machines now. We're thinking that you can go home tomorrow if you would like." The nurse near my head tells me.
"How long have I been here?" I whisper.
"Let's see, you came in on Sunday night I believe. Now it is Friday afternoon. And before you ask, if you slept throughout the whole week, no. You didn't. You stayed awake and ate and talked or tried to, blah, blah, blah. Now no more talking, got it?" The nurse asks.
I nod my head. It seems we have been walking forever. I try to raise my head to see where we are, but I can't.
What else is new? Can't do this. Can't do that.
The sweet rhythm of the wheels on the floor drive me into a partial sleep.
It feels like it's only been 2 minutes when I hear the nurse say,
"We're here! And I hope you like it because it took us 20 minutes to get you down here." The nurses babble on, and on and I try to keep my eyes open, just to see Tobias. It's weird, how I just met him, literally a couple weeks ago, but I feel like he is already my closest 'family member' and friend.
He is the only one who knows my whole life. I think. I hope.
The nurses finally get me into the room and I see the one and only, Tobias.
"Tobias!" I whisper excitedly.
"Hey, I said no more talking. Do you really want to lose your voice forever?" Nurse Audrey says.
I look at her in alarm, but she just laughs.
"Nah, I'm just kidding."
Audrey fixes me up to a couple of machines, to make sure I'm living still, as she tells everyone that I'm a curious one.
"That's my girl, always talking." Tobias says chuckling. He comes over and sits down next to me. I smile at him and slowly work my way into a sitting position. I lift my heavy arms and wrap them around him neck. He gently places his hands on my waist and I lean my head on his shoulder.
"You know you get to come home tomorrow." His deep voice whispers into my ear creating hot air tickle my neck.
I smile and nod my head. I see mom in the corner with a smile and tears of happiness are in her eyes? Hopefully.
Dad is next to her smiling.
I hadn't noticed until now, but Tobias seems to be slowly moving back and forth, like rocking. I don't want to go back to sleep. I can go to sleep on my own. I'm not a baby anymore. My eyelids begin to droop, again. I slowly fall into a deep slumber.......
TOBIAS POV~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I watch as Tris's breaths slow and even out. I can't wait until tomorrow! She is going to come home and later tonight, when she wakes up, the nurses said that they are going to make her walk around. If I know Tris at all, I think she'll be up and about, ready to leave tonight, even though she can't.
I slowly move Tris to a laying position and go sit in one of the chairs. I'm playing Geometry Dash and am about to finish the course for the first time when the door opens, startling me.
"Good they moved her already." Colby says hugging mom and dad.
"Yes. Mate you sure she'll be alright to go home tomorrow?" Mom asks.
"Yeah, I mean as long as she can walk later tonight and isn't in to much pain, there should be no reason to keep her here. The only reason we kept her here was to make sure she was fine and kept eating, things like that." Colby says.
"Aren't you only like 17?" I ask.
"Yeah, but let's just say that I skipped a lot of grades and a more advanced doctor watches overt work."
"Oh."
"Okay well, I'll see you in a couple hours when we get her up."
"Bye sweetie." Mom says.
2 HOURS LATER~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TRIS POV~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I feel someone calling my name from far away. I open my eyes, but they quickly close. I feel myself going back to darkness when they call my name again.
I open my eyes and blink a couple of times, trying to keep them open. Whatever I do, it seems I can't keep them open. It's like waking up from anastesia.
After a few more minutes of this, I see a sight I didn't think I would ever see.
"Colby?" I whisper.
"Beatrice! Hi. I know this is a horrible way to meet again, but, here I am! And I am your doctor."
Woah. Well that was unexpected.
"Beatrice, I know you just woke up, but we need you to get up. We're going to have you walk around. Okay?" Colby says.
I guess I have a look of shock and nervousness on my face because he tells me that they just put pain medication in my system. They move the liquids, to where I am going to walk and I slowly sit up.
Colby and Tobias come over to me and Tobias is in front and Colby in the back. I place my feet on the ground and nervously glance up at Tobias, who nods his head.
"Okay Beatrice, I am going to gently push you up, okay? Tobias, man, you ready?" Colby asks.
"Yeah let's go. Tris you ready?" Tobias asks.
I nod and I feel Colby push my shoulders and Tobias pulls my hands up. Soon I am on my feet, well sort of.
I am leaning on Tobias for support.
"Okay Tris, walk to mom and dad. I'll be behind you and Tobias will be in front of you, in case anything were to happen." Colby tells me.
I slowly lean my weight to the right and place my left foot in front of my right. The second my foot hits the ground, the world spins. I am suddenly on Tilt-A-Whirl, going around and around in circles. I totally collapse on Tobias, who luckily moved to my side, the second I started swaying back and forth, back and forth.
"Beatrice does it hurt?" Dad asks.
I shake my head, no. "Dizzy."
"Dizzy? Okay. Here we'll both hold your hands and help you." Colby tells everyone.
Tobias slowly puts me back on my feet, looking at me anxiously. Colby grabs my left arm and Tobias, the right. Slowly we move out way around to and dad and back to the bed.
"Good job, honey." Mom says and gives me a kiss on the cheek.
"I want to go home." I whisper.
"I know. But we need you to stay here one more night." Colby says.
One nurse opens the door and starts whispering things to Colby who nods and then shrugs.
"Actually, funny story. We need this room for a patient who just came out of a painful surgery, so if you want to go home tonight you can."
"Okay." Mom and dad sat in unison.
"I'll get the wheelchair."
Tobias comes and sits down next to me with a big smile on his face.
"What?" I say.
"You would never believe what I just found out. Uriah and Zeke are being dauntless cake to the house tomorrow to celebrate you being released from here!" He says.
"Oooh." I say.
Colby comes back with the chair and I finally leave the prison.
When we finally get home, Tobias carries a half-sleeping, tiny girl and places her on the couch.
"Toby. I want...... I want.... TV." I say pointing around. He smirks and turns the TV on and hands me the remote, which of course I drop.
"Tris I'm going to go eat dinner and you're going to stay here and rest."
"What if I don't want to rest!" I say twirling my hair around my finger.
"Well you should go to sleep, honey." Dad says coming into the room.
"Whatever you say daddy." I slur.
I know it sounds like I'm drunk, but when you this tired, don't understand what 2 + 2 is, and the pain medication makes you loopy, you would understand how I feel, too.
I close my eyes and I drift off into a place that shouldn't ever be visited......
