chapter three.
*lets pretend that i didn't say that eddie and alexandra we're meeting at 3pm lmao. just imagine that they're meeting at her house at 7*
~
alexandra lays on her bed, a seventeen magazine perched between her delicate fingers. she rests on her stomach, long legs in the air, kicking back and forth.
she pokes her head up from her magazine and looks at the clock sitting across from her. it reads 6:32. she figures she might as well start getting ready. she doesn't know quite why, but she actually wants to look nice for eddie.
she closes the magazine and rolls out of bed, walking to her closet. she throws open the doors and scans her clothing, an array of pleated skirts and crop tops staring back at her. after mulling over the various options, she finally settles on a baby blue pleated mini skirt, a white cropped tank, and her favorite jean jacket. she lays the clothes down on the bed and stands in front of her mirror, her eyes evaluating every inch of her body. her thumb and forefinger grab at her thigh and pinch, grabbing the fat.
"ugh." she groans in disgust. she lets go of her thigh and looks back up at the mirror. she sighs, why couldn't her thighs just be skinny? she loves the rest of her body, her waist is thin, her boobs aren't too big or too small, and her ass is pretty nice. she just hates her thighs. the way they jiggle slightly whenever she walks, the way they touch when she stands with her legs together, the way that they flatten out and look even bigger when she sits. to her, they're the worst thing about her body. and despite all of this, she still wears her skirts. she figures they get people's attention, and she likes attention sometimes.
she unzips the side of the skirt, stepping into it. she wiggles into it and the band fits perfectly around her waist, the rest of the skirt flowing nicely. she puts on the top and the jacket and walks to her dresser.
she goes through her socks, pulling on a pair of white knee-highs. she stumbles into her dirty white high top converse and grabs her bag, walking downstairs to grab dinner.
at the kaspbrak residence, it's a much different story. eddie's getting ready for his first ever "date", if you could call it that, and he has invited richie over to help out. eddie paces around the room with a shirt in each hand.
"okay. i could wear my favorite yellow shirt, that will show her who i am and what i like, or i could wear this blue polo, and that will show her that i'm outgoing and not afraid to take fashion risks." his eyes quickly dart from shirt to shirt as he struggles to decide.
"chill out, eds, it's not that-" richie starts, but eddie groans.
"rich, i told you not to call me that." eddie frowns. richie shrugs and shifts his weight back into his palms as he sits on eddie's bed.
"sorry, eds." richie chuckles, causing eddie to roll his eyes and crack a small smile. the moment doesn't last too long, though - richie watches with mild concern as his friend's expressions grows more and more frantic.
"help me, richie! i'm panicking!"
"okay, okay. calm down." richie stands and walks towards eddie, taking the two shirts in his own hands. he looks at them both, looks at eddie, and then puts each shirt up to eddie's small frame.
"wear the yellow shirt. it's more you, and you'll want to be yourself around her."
"really?" eddie questions, cocking an eyebrow.
"yes." richie says, taking the blue polo and tossing it onto the bed. "trust me, eds. i have been on many a date with many a girl. you just have to relax and be cool."
"okay. be cool." eddie thinks to himself before his eyes meet richie's. "i need your hawaiian shirt."
"what?" richie gasps. "not my shirt! i'm nothing without it."
"come on, richie, i want alexandra to like me! i need to be cool like you." a gleam flickers through richie's chocolate brown eyes.
"like me?" richie repeats.
"yeah, you get lots of girls. you're the coolest guy i know." eddie says. richie's lips curve into a small smile and he looks down at his feet, a faint rosy tint spreading across his cheeks.
"uh, what can i say, eddie spaghetti. girls love the rich-meister." he takes off his hawaiian shirt and hands it to eddie, letting eddie pull the shirt over his shoulders. the shirt comes down to eddie's mid-thigh, the sleeves reaching his elbows. richie had underestimated how much taller he was now then his best friend.
"do i look okay? do you think she'll like me?" eddie asks richie. richie tozier looks down at the boy in front of him.
"no. you look horrible." richie holds back a smile, keeping to himself what he really thought about the small boy.
"fuck you, richie!" eddie yells. "this is serious business! this is my first time hanging out with a girl. i want to impress her." he says this quietly, as if it were a secret.
"chill out, eds. you look cute." richie says calmly, pinching eddie's cheek.
"stop it!" eddie says irritably. richie laughs and eddie lets out an annoyed breath, crossing his arms over his chest indignantly. he shoves richie's hands away and grabs his fanny pack, strapping it around his waist. "thanks for helping, richie." he checks his watch and his eyes widen. "shit! it's 6:54! i have to get her at seven."
eddie quickly grabs his inhaler from his fanny pack and takes a puff, shoving it back into the bag again in no time. he runs to the window of his room and pushes it open, crawling through and onto the small part of the roof that was right outside the window. richie walks over to the window and leans forward onto the windowsill, sticking his head out as eddie crawls down to the grass below.
"don't fuck it up, eds." richie yells down.
"wow, thanks, richie." eddie responds sarcastically, climbing onto his bike. "if my mom comes home, you know what to do!" eddie speeds off, leaving richie in the room by himself.
eddie pedals as fast as his short legs can go, breathing heavily as he quickly turns a corner onto alexandra's street. the houses blur beside him as he bikes past them, coming to a stop in front of the red house at the end of the street. he drops his bike and walks up the paved pathway, unconsciously reaching into his bag for his inhaler. he takes a couple puffs as he steps onto the porch.
eddie stands in front of the door and wipes his sweaty palms onto his shorts, a million thoughts and doubts racing through his mind, but then he shakes his head and raises a hand to the oaken door before him, here goes nothing.
the door swings open.
eddie glances from his hand to the darkened doorway, and back again. what the fuck?
and that's when he sees the tall, blonde haired boy staring dead at him.
"hey, wheezy." the boy says, taking a sip from a bottle of water as he takes one sauntering step towards the porch. "what're you doing here?"
"oh-i...uh," eddie stammers.
"cole! stop scaring eddie!" alexandra yells, coming out from behind her brother. she slings her bag over her shoulder and approaches eddie. "sorry about him. ready to go?"
"yeah." eddie nods with a smile. as they turn to leave the porch, cole calls after them, "hurt my sister and you're dead, wheezy!"
eddie gulps and stammers out a response, picking up his pace as he walks back down the freshly paved driveway. cole closes the door and alexandra turns to eddie, noticing the nervous expression plastered on his face.
"ignore him. he can be a little overprotective sometimes, don't worry." she says to him, and his shoulders relax a little. she laughs as they continue walking. when they get to the end of the driveway, eddie picks up his bike and turns to alexandra.
"where's your bike?" he asks.
"oh, it's in the shop right now. it just broke this morning, so i took it down there. could i just ride on yours?" alexandra responds.
"oh! uh, yea, of course you can." eddie says nervously. he gets onto his bike and alexandra gets on after him, sitting on the back of the seat carefully and scooting forward, pressing her body against his. as they leave her house, alexandra wobbles on the bike, causing eddie to steal a couple of glances at her.
"are you okay?" eddie asks her. she steadies herself and assures him that she is indeed fine, but wobbles again not long after.
"fuck." she mutters to herself, instinctively snaking her arms around eddie's waist. eddie's stomach does a million flips - holy shit. he tries to focus on the sound of the wind in his ears and not on the insanely pretty girl on his back, but that proves to be incredibly difficult. eddie clears his throat as alexandra sighs contentedly, settling into the cute boy in front of her.
the rusty chains clank as little eddie pushes the pedals of his bike around and around. every now and then eddie checks on alexandra, who was just admiring the scenery around her. she plays with the gold ring on her finger as she listens to eddie talk about what he's done this summer with his friends, smiling at how happy he sounds. as he recalls his summer so far, he runs over a bump and the bike swerves as eddie regains stability. alexandra quickly tightens her grip on eddie, and he takes his right hand from the handlebar to quickly place it on her hand in a protective manner.
"you okay?" eddie asks her, his thumb softly rubbing small circles on her wrist.
"yea," she exhales, her stomach fluttering at the touch of his skin on hers, "i'm fine. thanks." she smiles reassuringly and eddie nods, bringing his hand back to the handle bars as they arrive at the ice cream store.
alexandra pulls her arms from around eddie's waist as she hops off the bike, eddie following suit. he puts his bike on the rack and walks to the back of the line with alexandra.
"what flavor are you gonna get?" eddie asks, just wanting to make conversation.
"i don't know. i'm super indecisive with everything." alexandra laughs as she scans the menu, and eddie's face lights up as he notices those cute dimples he loves so much. alexandra turns to him and cocks an eyebrow, her lips pulling into a smile. "why are you smiling like that?"
"those dimples." he says, quiet enough for only she to hear. "they're adorable." her cheeks flush scarlet red and she looks away from him, biting her lip.
"oh my god, eddie." she laughs, putting her focus back on the many ice cream flavors to choose from. she runs her dainty hand through her wavy blonde hair and flips it to the side, biting the inside of her cheek involuntarily as she mulls over the many different choices. the worker at the counter calls for the next guest and alexandra steps forward, leaning onto the counter.
as she scans the menu, eddie's eyes are glued to her face. he stares at her ocean blue eyes, noticing that when the sun hits them in the right way, they look like small pools of water that he just wanted to get lost in. he looks at her pink lips, her bottom one sucked in between her teeth as she decides.
his eyes rake her body and focus on her exposed midriff, her skin tanned and smooth-looking. he notices the way that her white top and blue skirt hug her figure and accentuate her slightly curvy physique.
"eddie!" alexandra calls, causing eddie to quickly snap his head up and look at her.
"yeah?"
"are you gonna order or what?" she chuckles, stepping to the side so that eddie can step up to the counter.
"oh,yeah. sorry." eddie laughs awkwardly and steps up to the window, putting in his order and paying the cashier. as the two step to the side to wait for their ice cream to be made, alexandra turns to face eddie and rests her elbow on the counter.
"are you okay? you seem off." she asks him, cocking an eyebrow.
"why wouldn't i be? i'm just happy to be here with you." he says, his cheeks turning a faint red. she notices his flustered expression and a smirk spreads across her lips.
"you're pretty cute when you're nervous." she tells him, smiling a little. eddie's cheeks flush even brighter red and he looks down at his feet.
"y-you're pretty cute, too." he stammers, quickly turning to grab the ice cream from the worker and leading them to an empty park bench by the shop.
~
all of their ice cream eaten, eddie and alexandra get up from the rusty bench they sat on and made their way to eddie's bike. they both get on and alexandra hugs eddie's waist tightly as they start moving. she rests her head on eddie's back and closes her eyes, smiling involuntary.
eddie slows down as he approaches alexandra's house. he taps alexandra's hand lightly and she mumbles something, slowly moving away from eddie and off of the bike. she groans quietly and rubs her eyes; the peaceful ride back to her house had made her a little sleepy. they step up on to the porch, ringing the doorbell.
"you know, this was actually really fun." alexandra says, smiling tiredly up at eddie.
"'actually'?" eddie responds, playfully cocking an eyebrow. "you sound surprised."
"yea, i guess i am a little." she laughs. "i thought that the game yesterday was just your lame way of asking me out and that i would be bored this whole time, but i don't think i've ever laughed as hard as i did tonight."
"really?" a goofy smile breaks out across his face.
"yeah. i like hanging out with you."
"i like hanging out with you too." eddie says, reaching forward and moving a small piece of alexandra's hair from her face. he tucks it behind her ear and slowly moves his hand down, cradling the back of her neck. she looks up at him and a heat rises to her cheeks as her stomach flutters unexpectedly. he looks down at her and smirks a little before pulling her into him and wrapping his arm around her. she giggles into his chest and pulls away, smiling up at him and resting her head on his shoulder.
alexandra rolls her eyes, ringing the doorbell again.
"i'm coming!" someone yells from inside the house. the door soon swings open to reveals shirtless cole.
"hey, cole."
"oh. it's just you." he rolls his eyes.
"yeah, it's me. who else were you expecting?"
"blaire." he smirks and alexandra scoffs. "what? she's hot."
"mom and dad are gone for one weekend and you invite a girl over. typical you." she turns to eddie. "i'll see you tomorrow?"
"sounds good." eddie smiles as alexandra hugs him, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist. she pulls away and raises up onto her toes to place a soft kiss to his cheek. she smiles as she turns around and walks into the house, cole following behind her. eddie puts a hand to where she had just kissed and smiles, blushing faintly. he practically jumps from the porch and runs down the driveway, hopping on his bike and quickly going home, excited to tell richie the events of the night.
