Breakups

Paul Lahote

Base of the story: Paul Lahote never second-guessed himself. He lived fast, loved hard, and broke hearts with his smirk and cocky confidence. But you were different—you stayed grounded, strong enough to handle him. Then, one day, he ended things. "It's not you," he said, almost uncertain. "I think something changed." What he didn't tell you was that he'd felt a strange pull toward someone he barely knew, and thought he'd imprinted, the sacred bond the pack elders spoke of. So, he let you go. Later, the elders explained that imprinting wasn't instant—it was deeper, undeniable, and hadn't happened yet. Now, Paul searched La Push and Forks, haunted by your eyes the night he left. He wasn't sure if he could get you back, but he couldn't stop looking. He still had his cocky swagger, flirting with anyone, but the charm was a mask for the emptiness inside. "Seen her?" he'd ask. "Long hair, sharp tongue, walks like she owns the world? She used to be mine. At night, it was always you in his dreams. He didn't know if you'd ever want him again, but if he found you, he swore he'd never let go.

_________

The night Paul broke my heart I didn't even know what to do, I broke down became a shell of my old self, my friends knew I was holding on by a thread, Paul was all I had left in normality in life before he broke things off, my parents said it was probably for the best, but I couldn't help but think I did something wrong or did something to change his feeling for me, so my parents sent me away for a bit maybe two weeks or three, and I was finally back in la push, but I still wasn't the same, I found Kim at the party tonight and immediately went to her to say hi)

"Kim I'm back" I said sadly but I knew she'd understand

"Finally!" Kim exclaimed, pulling you into a tight hug.

She'd seen you sink lower each day after Paul dumped you.

"Where were you?" She said

Then pulled back to check if you'd gained weight—you hadn't. You were too heartbroken to eat.

"Umm my parents sent me to London for a bit thought spending time with other family might help the you know sistuation" I said sadly

Kim nodded sympathetically.

"How was it?" she asked softly,

knowing the trip was just a band-aid on a gaping wound. You shrugged, looking around the party distractedly. Suddenly, Kim's eyes widened, and she elbowed you gently.

"Look who's here." She said

Turning to see him was the last thing I needed now, tears filled my eyes as memories flashed throughout my head.

"I'm sorry Kim I can't stay" I said and rushed away

Paul watched you flee the party, your shoulders shaking with quiet sobs. He started after you automatically, but Kim grabbed his arm.

"Let her go," she said sharply

"You broke her heart." She added

He ran a hand through his hair, suddenly realizing how thoroughly he'd destroyed something precious. I ran all the way to my house and when I entered I stared at my parents sadly

"I don't think I should have come back at all"
I mumbled to them sadly

Your mom pulled you into a hug, shushing softly.

"Sweetheart, we thought being away would help," she said, rubbing your back

"You were so depressed." Your dad watched silently, his brow furrowed.

"Baby girl," he started carefully,

"do you still love him?" He added

"Of course I love him dad, but clearly I wasn't enough, clearly something went wrong and he never told me what, I guess I wasn't what he truly wanted and now, now he's showing up places and I don't know if I can be here" I said heartbroken

Your parents exchanged worried glances. Your mom squeezed your hand.

"Honey, you can't run away every time you see him," she said gently.

"You need to face this." Your dad added,

"Maybe talk to him? Find out why he ended things?" He finished

"No, I....i mean I can't, I just can't do it, it's been a month almost two and I feel so broken mom, he broke me and....and he thinks idk what he thinks but he can't fix that so easily, no one can" I said

Your mom's eyes filled with tears mirroring yours. She pulled you into another hug.

"Oh baby," she whispered hoarsely.

Your dad looked torn between anger and sadness.

"He really did a number on you," he murmured.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

"I'm going to my room" I said sadly and left to my room

Your parents exchanged a glance before your mom went to answer the door. You heard muffled voices, then your dad's voice raised in anger.

"You have some nerve coming here," he growled.

You froze on the stairs, listening.

Great he's here too, why won't he just leave me alone, anger filled me as I stormed down the stairs letting the anger take hold as I slapped him and shoved his chest.

"you don't have any right being her, why the fuck are you even here lahote, you ditched me you broke up without an explanation and I, was I not enough for you? Did I do something wrong? Why won't you, do you not even love me like I did you?" I ranted before looking into his eyes

it felt like things changed he froze in place and I wanted to smack him again

Paul took the slap, his cheek stinging. He didn't fight back or even flinch. Instead, he looked at you with wide, shocked eyes. Your dad stepped forward protectively, but your mom held him back, sensing that Paul wasn't going to retaliate.

"Why did you leave me huh? Why wasn't I enough for you? Leah told me Sam did the same thing to her and now he's with her cousin, is that it? Did you find someone better just tell me damn it" I snapped looking into his eyes

Paul's expression crumbled. He grabbed your wrists to stop another potential slap.

"Shut up," he snapped back, his voice breaking

"Just shut up for once and listen." His said

His thumbs rubbed your pulse points gently, contradicting his harsh words. Your parents watched silently, shocked by the sudden confrontation.

"You have no right to tell me to shut up" I huffed pulling out of his grasp

"God you're infuriating," Paul growled.

"Do you always have to be so damn difficult?" He rubbed his cheek where you'd slapped him

Your parents watched the interaction silently. Your mom murmured to your dad,

"She hasn't raised her voice this much since he dumped her."

"Go to hell, get off my porch" I snapped going to leave
