Deal With the Queen

Diana stood in her cousin, the Queen's, parlor and watched as the Queen paced about the room. She told her cousin the only reason that Camile wanted to see her was to waste her time. This just made the Queen roll her eyes, she knew that Camile would not admit anything. However, Diana confessed she thought she maybe able to have Lord Barsham give evidence on Camile's endeavors to claim his favor over the other ladies.

"You think you could convince him to do it?" the queen asked.

"I believe so my queen, give me some time with him alone and I believe I can persuade him to speak of her shall we say passionate hunt for his affections?" Diana replied to which the queen smiled.

"I trust you cousin, you have not let me down and I know I place all of my trust in you and though this is quite a lot to bare on your shoulders, I know this is the right path for us to take." The Queen said looking Diana right in her eyes.

A part of her felt that the Queen was hiding something, though she did not want to press her luck and find out something the Queen was not ready to tell her. Nodding, she agreed with the Queen and smiled.

"Guards, release lord Barsham and bring him here, we need to speak with him now." The Queen commanded and the guards left the room. "You have my full support on your endeavors cousin."

The queen went and sat on a nearby chair, she began to sip her tea that was on the table beside her. It was not long until the guard came back with Lord Barsham in hand and they sat him down before the Queen. He bowed his head down and waited for what the Queen would say to him. With the wave of her hand, the Queen dismissed the guards and looked right at the Lord before her.

"You are sparred but I believe there is someone who believes you will be of use to us in exchange for us having saved you from the dungeon and possibly death." The queen said and Barsham looked up and her.

"Of course, my queen." He replied.

"What is your first name?" she asked out of mere curiosity.

"Samuel but my friend refers to me as Sam your majesty." He replied.

So many people whose names started with the letter S in this time. Diana watched from the side as the Queen questioned Sam as he preferred them call him. Until the Queen motioned her over. Diana went and stood beside the Queen and looked to the man.

"She is the only reason you will live, if you serve us well." The queen said as she stood. "She will inform you of the rest, I grow tired. Sleep well cousin, Lord Barsham."

With that, the Queen took her leave and the lord was left alone with Diana. She looked back to him and saw he had a grin on his face. He was happy to be alive no doubt, however his smile spoke something more that a joy to be amongst the living.

"You are going to tell the King of Lady Camile's advances upon you as well as her successful attempt to seduce you." Diana said plainly.

Blinking, the man stood and looked at Diana confused.

"The King already saw with his own eyes what happened, what other proof would he need? What would I need to do?" Sam asked confused as the door to the Queens parlor was opened and a very worried Simon walked in and right to Diana.

Simon ignored the other man in the room and took Diana's hands in his and held her gaze. He was worried when she did not come back to her room, so he went out to look for her and to make sure she was not in any trouble.

"Brendan, this is Lord Barsham, he as agreed to tell the King about Lady Camile's advances and successful seduction attempt with him. Were you not my lord?" Diana asked as she moved closer to Simon as if showing the lord that she and Simon were a couple and he had no chance with her.

However, the Lord like a challenge.

"Tis true, your friend saved me from the gallows and dungeon though I must admit you look familiar sir." The lord asked looking at Simon who he would know as Brendan.

"Lady Camile is my ex-wife." Simon spoke, only not his past but the past of Brendan.

"Ah, I remember. Still I have no idea how she convinced the King to strip you of your title." The lord said and Diana could see it was a sort of challenge.

"Title is just a word in my eyes, Brendan is worth far more than that to me." Diana said looking to Simon and smiling the brightest smile that Simon had ever seen her smile.

"You dare to say you love him? A peasant? Your cousin would never allow you to marry him." The lord laugh thinking it was all a joke, however he was the only one laughing when he noticed this he stopped. "You do not jest? My Lady you are a cousin to the Queen of England it would be an insult to not only her but to your family to marry below your station."

Diana dripped Simon's hands tighter. She knew the lord was right however she did not plan to stay long enough to be married. Though what would happen if her cousin did want her to be married? She knew her own mother had been married on past missions...did that mean that she would have to as well? Clearing his throat, Simon told the Lord it was late, and that Diana needed her rest which was true but now her heart and mind were filled with worry...was this what the queen was not telling her?

Simon had done his best to calm her down and yet Diana fell asleep in tears. It wasn't that Simon didn't comfort her, it was that she feared the queen would have her marry some fat ugly lord who would want to have his way with her and possibly kill her if she tried to fight him. Simon sighed and held his head. Hearing a beep from his watch, he looked up and saw a hologram of Abigail, Diana's mother, looking back at him.

"She scared; she fears the queen will have her marry some fat lord." Simon said with a sigh.

"That is a logical fear, most men here don't know the meaning of the word diet. However, according to our record if the Queen were to have Diana marry someone they would be of the same age and station that Diana is now. No fat lord or murderous husband." Abigail said trying to bring some relief. "I know you have feelings for my daughter, however what happens in this time is not permanent. Once the mission is accomplished our presence in this time as well as our actions are erased."

Nodding Simon looked back to Diana. He knew what he felt for her was strong and he feared she would move on with someone from the time they were in.

"She will not forget you or fall for another, please Simon remember this is a mission, not a love story." Abigail said and then her hologram disappeared.

Getting back at HQ Abigail was met with an unamused Fred and John looking at her. She looked at them confused. Just as she was about to say something Fred held up his hand and pulled up her file.

"Let's see your record...oh the revolution you were with two men, not married to either of them. Salem witch trails." Fred looked to John. "Two men as well, did marry both of them eventually. Ancient Rome, relations, marriage and child with one Aro of Rome. Ancient Egypt, quick affair with Nahkt, Ka was in love with you and Aro had to defend you..."

"There better be a reason you are bringing this up..." Abigail sighed.

"You can't tell Simon not to love her with your history...she may end up married just like you did. On her first mission without a team no doubt." Fred reminded Abigail who sighed.

"He's right, for right now lets just wait and see what might happen." John calmed his wife down as he rubbed her shoulders.
