Chapter 26

"Liam, what the hell is going on?" I screamed, balling my hands into fists.

"Tell her Liam. Now." Harry warned.

"How is this any of you business? I was going to tell her, you didn't have to go and bring it up!" Liam shouted, taking a step towards Harry.

I looked back and forth between them, taking shaky breaths and still waiting for my answer. Harry took a step forward as well, gaining some height on Liam.

"Why would it matter anyway? I get the feeling that you've been doing this entirely too long. As if the one time you were caught doing it wasn't enough!" Harry replied, his eyes like a raging fire.

"I don't understand why this is such a big deal for you, Harry. You don't even know her like I do." Liam answered, his eyebrows drawing together in anger.

Harry threw the first punch, sending Liam to the ground. I yelled at them, telling them to get off of each other, but it was no use. They went back and forth, hitting each other and screaming terrible things.

Zayn was the first to step in, pulling Harry off of Liam. Harry's face was bloody and his knuckles bruised, but it didn't look like he cared. It just looked like he wanted to finish what he started.

"Liam, get your ass up and tell her now." Zayn told him, guiding Harry by the shoulders away from us.

I reached my hand down and helped Liam up, still oblivious to what was going on. He held my hand and sighed, walking upstairs. We got to my bedroom and he closed the door, sitting down on my bed and hanging his head in his hands.

I walked over and sat down beside him, resting my hand on his back. I was positive that I wasn't going to like what he was about to tell me, but honestly how bad could it be?

 I'm tough.

 I can handle it.

"Liam?" I whispered, watching his movements closely.

He shifted, letting his arms fall to his sides and looked at me.

"I'm so sorry." He told me, his voice cracking.

I felt my breath hitch in my throat, but managed to keep breathing.

"It's okay, just tell me." I said, trying to coax out the truth.

"I didn't mean to, it just happened, Diana. You have to understand that before I tell you." He replied, his eyes becoming glossy.

I nodded my head, hoping my features weren't revealing how worried I was.

"I was out, showing Carol around...nothing special, just some of the tourist attractions." He started, his breathing slowing. "We decided to go out and get a drink, to celebrate whatever had happened that day, and I ended up getting really drunk."

He stopped, his face seemingly frozen and I ran my hand over his back, trying to calm him.

"It's alright." I whispered, waiting for the rest of the story.

"We went back to her apartment because she was sober enough to drive and the paparazzi were crazy. We got there and I went straight for the couch, just wanting to sleep." He paused again, taking a deep breath. "Carol came over and we started talking and I'm not sure, but one thing led to another and she kissed me, and I didn't stop her. I didn't even try, Diana."

I felt my heart stop for a split second, hoping that was all that happened and he wasn't about to say what I thought he was going to.

"Liam?" I choked, the act of breathing becoming more and more difficult.

"I didn't stop her. I was too drunk and I let her do it." Liam cried, the tears slowly falling down his cheeks. "We slept together, Diana, I'm so sorry."

I felt my hand drop off of his back and the whole world stopped spinning. For a split second it was just him and me and all of the lies and secrets piled up on top of each other, just growing taller. I stood up, the tears building rapidly and stared at him.

"How? How could you not stop her?" I screamed, covering my mouth with my hand.

"Diana, please, try and understand I couldn't! She took advantage of me!" He insisted, trying to take my hands in his.

"You kept hanging out with her, though! Why wouldn't you just tell me and cut her out of your life?" I yelled, ripping my hands away from his.

He didn't say anything as his eyes darted to the ground. I felt the realization of what had been going on this entire time clench my heart tightly, leaving me without anything.

"This has happened more than once hasn't it?" I whispered, feeling the tears pour out of my eyes and hit the ground.

"Please, Diana." Liam begged, stepping towards me.

I lifted my hand and in one swift movement hit him. He brought his hand to his cheek, where it no doubt stung and tried to reach out to me again.

"Just stop!" I screamed, throwing his desk lamp across the room and watching it shatter against the wall.

I opened the door and ran down the stairs, feeling the effects of my ugly cry taking over my body. I collapsed on the bottom stair of the house, crying into my hands and screaming loudly. I couldn't will myself to get up and understand how he could have done this to me.

I heard a door open and close and rapid feet down the stairs. I looked up, expecting Liam, but saw Harry instead.

He bent down, taking me into his arms.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He repeated over and over, running his hand through my hair as I cried out into his chest.

"How could he do this to me Harry?" I yelled, clenching my fists around the soft material of Harry's shirt.

"Because he's an idiot, that's why." He told me, his arms keeping me close.

Another door opened and slammed back again and this time I knew it was Liam.

"Diana, please don't leave. Hear me out, you haven't heard the whole story." Liam said, desperate to get the "truth" out.

"She doesn't want to talk to you. You've done enough, just get the hell away from her." Harry answered, never releasing me.

"This is all your fault." Liam growled, taking a few more steps down the stairs.

"You did this to yourself. You are the biggest idiot I've ever met, Liam. Why couldn't you just be happy? You had so much and you just destroyed it. Not to mention the innocent people you took out while 'pursing your happiness'. She loved you so much and you just ruined that. The most amazing girl that has ever walked into your life is about to walk out of it." Harry told me, standing up with me and guiding me towards the door.

"You don't know anything!" Liam yelled, ripping Harry off of me and throwing him to the ground.

"Just stop already!" I cried, grabbing my keys off the table and rushing out to my car.

I opened the drivers side door and got in, watching as Harry ran outside, his face the picture of concern. I backed out of their driveway, covering my mouth with my hand again.

I was two miles down the road, when the realization of what had just happened hit me like a wave. I felt the tears falling quickly from my eyes, and the ugly contortions of my mouth as I screamed out at Liam, and Carol and God only knows what else.

I felt myself loose control of the wheel last minute, but managed to stay in my lane.

I pulled the car visor down to grab my letter I wrote for Liam, and throw it out the window, when a picture of us kissing fell out instead.

I turned it over in my hands, a sad smile finding it's way onto my features as I cried harder, the tears blurring my vision. I was drifting into the neighboring lane, and looked up to switch back over, but an 18 wheeler filled my vision instead, blinding me and leaving me flying off the side of the road.
