Devotion #121 - Amy Carmichael
1/1/2023
Amy Carmichael. Know that name? Neither did I till I found a video of her on YouTube and looked her up on Wikipedia. She is known as a Christian woman who saved dozens of Indian children from the temple when they were freely given to it by their family. Her labor efforts were rewarded just 3 years before her death when the plight of temple children was revealed to the world, and India made it illegal to give children to the temple. She would save them all one by one by disguising her skin color and going down to the temple to help them. Both her and Esther are people I can look up to in hopes of becoming a great Christian, but they both set the same example. Look to the Lord, listen to Him, and turn to Him for guidance. God always listens to us, and He calls us to do His Will to spread His Word all across the world to those in need. Amy's movement to save temple children brought many children into her ministry, and it all started when she listened to the Lord and welcomed Preena, a young girl fleeing from the temple, into her group. That is how her ministry started, according to Wikipedia. Soon, it grew to where it soon included boys to and now houses hundreds of children. With just listening to the Lord, Amy is now considered an influence that is remembered in the Church of England for her bravery. She's about the best influence I could describe next to Esther. It often makes me wonder how I could live up to their expectations and change things for the better like they did, but now I'm reminded to be the child God wants me to be and don't worry about what others think of you or how you will be remembered. Do everything for God and give without a 2nd thought. "Be still and know that I am God." - Psalms 46:10
Amen
God bless
