6. Stuck

"What did you do?!" Jungkook snapped.

Mirae was still trying to come to terms with what had just happened herself. One minute she was antagonizing the handsome prick beside her and the next she was handcuffed to him.

'Wait? Did I just call him handsome? Come on me! You can do better than that!' Mirae sassed herself internally as her eyes watched Jungkook wildly shake his wrist about as if that would free it from the handcuff.

"Stop doing that, you idiot! You're hurting my wrist!"

"Well fix whatever this is you did then!"

"What I did? You were the one that kept touching it when I told you to stop!"

"Yes, but you came over and fooled with them too and now we're stuck together. Fix this. Now."

"Or what?"

She watched the muscles in his jaw flex as she sighed. She hated this situation just as much as he did.

"Are you really testing my patience when you ought to be finding out how to unlock these?" asked Jungkook with an arched brow. "Dangerous choice."

"Ugh just shut up and let me look for the key."

Using her un-handcuffed hand, Mirae rummaged through a small lock box that sat open on the table a few feet away. She looked through the few trinkets there before coming to a pause.

"Well...did you find it?"

Jungkook didn't like standing here longer than he had to, grateful that most of the people nearby were on a lunch break at the moment so they weren't witness to the skeptical. If the shareholders didn't think him immature before, this sort of thing was bound to take the cake. Jungkook could already feel a headache starting to form, feeling like it was already pulsing behind his eyes.

"Um...no. I didn't find it, which is odd. It should have been in this box."

"Should have been, but obviously isn't," Jungkook said as he clicked his tongue against his teeth, scowling down at the handcuffs as if fixing it with an intimidating look would make them fall right off. "We'll have to cut them off then."

"No! You can't! Do you know how much of an antique these are?"

"I don't care how old these things are. You either find the key this instant or I'm finding something to cut them off with. I cannot be spotted chained to the likes of you."

Both Mirae's eyebrows shot sky high as she looked Jungkook square in the eyes.

"Trust me. I don't want to be chained to someone like the likes of you either, but I refuse to let you cut them off. You will cut them off over my dead body."

"At this point, if that's what it takes..."

Scoffing, Mirae picked up a small packet of pamphlets nearby and smacked Jungkook in the side of the arm with it. Before Jungkook could even think about how to retaliate, the entryway started to fill up again with people coming back from lunch. Left with no other choice, Jungkook moved to hide underneath the tablecloth covered table. The sudden, jarring action caused Mirae to let out a soft 'oh' as she frowned downward at where he was hiding.

"You're so freaking..."

"Who are you talking to Mirae?"

At the sudden appearance of Hoseok's voice, Mirae looked up to see him standing there with two sandwiches in his hands and a confused look on his face.

"I um..."

She didn't know how to explain it without drawing attention to their table because it was clear that Mister Personality didn't want to be seen right now. Nodding her head towards the table she replied, "I have a bit of a situation."

"K?...What kind?" asked Hoseok as he set the sandwiches down and walked around the edge of the table. He became even more confused to see how one of Mirae's arms was shoved downwards so that she was basically in a half crouch. "Is there something under there?"

"Please keep your voice down," said Mirae. "I just...you know those antique handcuffs we brought today?"

"Yeah..."

"Well, do you know where the key is?"

"It's not in the box?"

Shaking her head, Hoseok frowned as he went to go look in the box for himself. As he began to rummage around for it, he asked, "Why are you wondering where it is?"

"Just peek under the tablecloth when you get a moment," she whispered in his ear, "but be careful. He might bite."

"What?" Hoseok asked surprised as he stopped digging to move towards the tablecloth. "Did you handcuff yourself to a rottweiler or something?..."

Hoseok's voice trailed out as he lifted a corner of the tablecloth to see Jungkook under there with a very displeased look on his face.

"Or something," whispered Jungkook as a pale faced Hoseok dropped the tablecloth back down.

"Is that the guy from the other day that splashed you with water?" he asked as Mirae nodded.

"How did you two?..."

"I'll tell you the story later, but he obviously doesn't want to be spotted by anyone and we need to get out of here."

"Well, we could always wait until this is all over to try to sneak him out," said Hoseok as his eyes scanned about their area before landing on something, "or we can try something else."

"Something else?"

"Yes," said Hoseok as he moved to grab what his eyes had landed on, holding it up for Mirae to see.

'Well, I suppose it's worth a shot,' she thought, wondering how Jungkook would react to the plan.

"I hate you both."

"I thought you didn't want to be recognized," hissed Mirae, "So can it before someone hears you."

The plan for sneaking Jungkook out hadn't necessarily been the brightest one, but it had been the only option they had figured was possible at the time. Using a spare tablecloth they had brought with them for their table, Hoseok had cut out two eye holes and thrown the tablecloth over Jungkook so he looked like a ghost.

"Why are you handcuffed to a ghost?" one man asked as they made their way towards the exit.

"We are here representing a museum," Hoseok spoke up. "Our job is to preserve history. Her being handcuffed to a ghost is an illustration of how we are chained to our past..."

"You know what. I don't care. Have fun," snorted the man as he walked past.

Even though Mirae couldn't currently see Jungkook, she could feel his arm tense up as the man walked away.

"As soon as this is over, I'm suing the both of you," Jungkook stated.

"Ha!" laughed Mirae as Hoseok returned to trying to escort them outside. "I'd like to see you try."

"You really don't know who you're messing with, do you?"

"Of course I do. I'm messing with an immature manchild."

"Do not call me immature."

"So, I can call you manchild then? Noted."

"Guys, knock it off!" hissed Hoseok as they finally made it to the exit of the building. "You're going to draw attention to yourselves and I thought the whole idea was to get out without being recognized."

Leading them towards the vehicle they had arrived at the conference center in, Hoseok didn't realize how this was just the beginning of what was to come.
