Shock

It was the morning of the last show of the Say You Will tour.

Stevie laid in bed not feeling her best; she usually slept in until noon but here she was wide awake and feeling miserable.
She didn't know what it could be; she didn't have a cold, she didn't have a headache...she just felt off.

Karen, her assistant was doing her best to keep Stevie comfortable. But nothing was working.
"Tell me exactly how you are feeling." Karen said.
"Well...it feels as if...I have menstrual cramps. Which is impossible, I went through menopause months ago. A little late if you ask me but...it finally happened." Stevie replied as she rubbed her abdomen. "I mean how do you explain the weight gain, which you have to admit I gained weight during this tour! I haven't had a cycle in...jeez I don't even remember when I had one last. It's menopause I tell you."
"Yeah...but does menopause cause cramping?" Karen asked.
"I don't know! I never been through it before!" Stevie said a little exasperated.
"Are you sure you're going to be able to perform tonight?" Karen asked.
Stevie sighed and replied. "Yes, I am sure. It's the last show, I don't want to disappoint anyone. Maybe it'll pass...and I'll feel better later."
"Alright, I'm going to get you some hot tea, maybe it'll help." Karen said. "Oh, I'm going to make you a doctors appointment for when we get back home."

Stevie just nodded and closed her eyes trying to fall asleep.
Karen left Stevie's room to get her a cup of tea.

A few minutes later, the door to Stevie's hotel room opened.
Stevie sat up knowing it was Karen bringing her tea.
"Oh! It's you." Stevie said surprised by who it was.
"Yeah, I met Karen outside and asked if I could bring this to you." He gestured to the cup of tea in his hands. "She said you weren't feeling well."
Stevie took the cup of tea from him and took a sip then said. "Thank you Linds."

Lindsey sat on the empty side of the bed.
They sat silent for a few minutes while Stevie drank her tea.

When she was done, Stevie laid back down and got under the covers.
"Lindsey?" Stevie said through the covers.
"Yes Stevie?" Lindsey replied.
"I know I had said I won't allow you in my bed again since...what happened months ago but...could you lay with me?"
Lindsey smiled and laid next to Stevie.

Stevie cuddled next to him and laid her head on his chest.
She closed her eyes and for some reason felt a bit better having him next to her.
"Thank you." She whispered. "But this can never happen again...got it Buckingham!" She said jokingly.
Lindsey chuckled. "Hey I'm not doing anything."

After a moment, it got quiet.
Lindsey peaked and noticed Stevie was fast asleep.
He decided to get more sleep himself, he kissed the top of her head and drifted off to sleep.

It had been months since they stopped sleeping together.
They knew it was wrong but the love they had for each other was still there.
One thing led to another and they had an affair.

Stevie had become close with Lindsey's wife, Kristen; so she felt guilty and was ashamed of her actions. Stevie quickly put a stop to their affair.

But at this moment, Stevie needed Lindsey close to her. She felt some comfort being in Lindsey's arms.

Hours later, Stevie put on a facade that she felt much better than before.
She reassured Lindsey and Karen multiple times that she was feeling better.
Lindsey was skeptical but didn't push it, it was now time to get ready for the show.

Stevie was in her dressing room getting ready.
She was alone, asking to have a moment for herself. She sobbed as she curled into a fetal position as the pain intensified through out the day.

She gave herself a few minutes to cry then she gathered herself together; she was determined to make it to the end of the show.

Karen could tell something was wrong but of course Stevie said it was nothing.

Finally she was dressed and her make up was done.

The show started, she managed to forget about the pain she was in and used it to perform. Stevie smiled, danced and twirled and gave no indication of her discomfort.

Before she knew it she was singing Rhiannon.
However, after Rhiannon, Lindsey sang his song Come.
Stevie went backstage grabbed a water, Karen rushed to her side.
"Stevie! What's going on?" Karen asked, seeing right through her facade.
Stevie breathed in and out through the pain.
"I don't know. This pain comes and goes..." She said. "Karen...get my things ready. After the show...we're heading to the hospital."
"Are you sure you can finish? How are you able to sing?" Karen asked shocked.
"Yes I'm sure and again I don't know. I just don't concentrate on the pain and get through the song." Stevie said as she stood up and composed herself. It was almost time for her song Gypsy.

Next thing Stevie knew she finished the last song, Goodbye Baby. The band took their bows and Stevie rushed to Karen who had everything packed into the car and ready to go.

By this time, all the band members knew something was wrong; they all were worrying about Stevie.

Lindsey told his assistant to grab his things and take them to the hotel.
He wrapped an arm around Stevie and helped her to the car.

Lindsey helped her in and sat by her holding her close; Stevie wrapped her arms around him and sobbed into his chest. The pain was constant now.

Karen sat on the other side of Stevie and told the driver to go.
She was beyond worried about Stevie. Karen had seen Stevie sick before and in pain, but this was something else.

Stevie held her hand to her stomach and cried out. "Why does it hurt so much!?"
Lindsey rubbed her back trying to soothe her. "We're almost there Steph....just try to hold on. Breathe through the pain."
Stevie did as she was told and it helped ease the pain a bit; tears just kept rolling down her cheeks.

It was a moment later when Stevie felt something between her legs. "What...the...?"
Lindsey and Karen saw Stevie lean forward and they all looked to see a puddle of water on the seat.
"Did you...?" Lindsey asked.
"No!!! I didn't!" Stevie said defensively.

Stevie sobbed harder. "What's...happening to me!!!!!??"
Stevie was panicking; she didn't understand what was going on with her, she was terrified.

Stevie began to feel faint, next moment she slumped onto Lindsey; the pain was too much.
Lindsey cradled her against him and was panicking himself.
"Stephanie! Steph...wake up. Oh god...please wake up." He said patting her cheeks trying to make her respond.

Karen told the driver to go faster, tears rolled down her cheeks.

Finally, the driver pulled into the emergency room side of the hospital and pulled up right to the doors.
The driver parked the car then went inside to get help.

Lindsey stepped out of the car once he saw some doctors pushing a gurney.
He picked her up and laid her on the gurney.

Stevie was rushed into a room to be worked on. Karen and Lindsey followed behind answering questions about what was going on with Stevie.

They told the doctors how Stevie hadn't been feeling well and how her pain had persisted on throughout the day in her abdomen.

A nurse pulled them back into the hall to wait. They watched through the window as the team of doctors worked on Stevie.

They got Stevie out of her stage clothes and into a hospital gown, some time went on, then Stevie began to stir.
She groaned then sobbed.
"Ms. Nicks, I'm Dr. Turner. We are going to do an ultrasound to see what is causing the pain in your abdomen." The doctor said.
Stevie just nodded her head, in too much pain to speak, sweat beaded on her forehead.

A nurse wheeled over an ultrasound machine.
Dr. Turner set everything up in no time and squeezed a gel onto Stevie's abdomen.
The doctor then pressed the transducer and spread the gel across Stevie's abdomen.

Dr. Turner looked at the screen closely then his eyes grew wide as he realized what he was seeing.
Stevie tried to see but couldn't make out what was on the screen.

Suddenly Dr. Turner turned and told a nurse to set up a room.
"Ms. Nicks, I need to check your cervix. Please lift your legs up."
"What?! Why?" Stevie asked sounding more afraid than before.
"Please it'll be a quick examination." Dr. Turner said gently.
He put on gloves and did the examine.

After he was shocked. "Okay everyone we need to move now!"

Everyone sprung into action, they wheeled Stevie to the elevator, Karen and Lindsey followed. They were transferring Stevie to another part of the hospital.

Dr. Turner looked at Lindsey and asked. "Are you the father?"
Lindsey looked at him like he had two heads.
"What...what are you talking about?" Lindsey asked perplexed.
"We are moving Ms. Nicks into a delivery room. We need to move and get her there fast."
Dr. Turner said motioning for Lindsey to follow.
Lindsey was shocked but not as shocked as Stevie.
"Delivery....room?" Stevie asked breathless, trying to breath through the pain.

Lindsey didn't know what to do so he just followed the team into the elevator leaving Karen with her mouth wide open.

Once the doors closed Dr. Turner turned to Stevie. "Ms. Nicks, you are at 10 centimeters, the baby's head is right there when I examined you. A few pushes and your baby will be here."

Stevie's mind was reeling. "Wait! Wait! No! Baby?! This can't be! I'm not pregnant! I went through...menopause..." Stevie thought back to last time but couldn't remember. But then realized, her affair with Lindsey. "...eight months ago." She whispered her eyes wide; she looked right into Lindsey's eyes as realization hit them both.

Lindsey thought he would faint, but he pulled himself together and held Stevie's hand.

Before they knew it, Stevie was wheeled into a room and it was ready for her.
There was no more time to do anything else, it was time to push.

"Okay Ms. Nicks. You need to push now." Dr. Turner said.
Stevie still couldn't wrap her mind around the situation she was in. How could she not know she was pregnant?

Stevie did what she was told then let out her breath.
"Okay, I need you to push a little longer this time." The doctor said.
Stevie took a deep breath and pushed down.
A nurse coached Stevie through it and counted to ten.

Lindsey was by her side the whole time, still in a shocked daze.

Ten minutes later, Stevie pushed for the last time.
There was a tiny whimper that filled the room.
It sounded like the baby was struggling.

Dr. Turner held the baby up so Stevie and Lindsey could see. "Congratulations, it's a girl!" He said. Just then the baby was whisked away to get looked over.

Stevie sobbed; she just delivered a baby, she was a mother to a baby girl.
She looked over at Lindsey and they stared at each other not sure of what to say.
Both just cried, their tears rolling down their cheeks.
He kissed her hand and pushed her hair away from her face then kissed her lips.

The whimpering turned into a cry but it wasn't a strong one. The baby girl was rushed to the NICU.

Sometime later, Stevie was freshened up and given a new hospital gown.
Also, she was given a private room and was now resting.

She still hadn't spoken a word after her baby girl was rushed away to the NICU.
Lindsey too was at a lost for words; he knew he was the father unless Stevie had slept with someone else. But Lindsey knew deep down that Stevie hadn't.

Stevie gently turned and laid on her side. She winced; she was so sore.
She had turned her back on Lindsey and closed her eyes.
This couldn't be real, could it? It had to be a dream, she thought to herself.

She slowly drifted off to sleep thinking, Yes it must be a dream.

Yes, another fic where Stevie becomes a mom!

I don't know if you all are tired of this type of fanfic, it's just...it's all I know how to write.
Especially in the Say You Will era and The Dance era.

I know there is no possible way for Stevie to have gotten pregnant at that age on the Say You Will tour but I don't know, this is fiction after all.

Although I do try to keep it as realistic as possible. But I fail sometimes.

I hope you all enjoyed this...one shot?
Should I continue?
