"You should try the boots on, because if they don't fit, I can return them for something that does. I wasn't sure of any sizes, so I did the best I could."

I looked at her, only to see that her eyes had filled with tears, and her bottom lip was trembling.

~ ♡ ~

You felt a tear roll down your cheek, then another, until you couldn't stop them. You didn't know what to say. Why did this man just come home with clothes for you? It wasn't his responsibility to buy you clothes. Why was he being so kind to you?

You wiped the tears from your cheeks, and glanced at the clothes he'd laid out on the table. There were two pairs of jeans, three sweatshirts, and a cute Christmas sweater with a cat on the front, as well as five pairs of socks, the coat, and the boots.

He wanted you to try the boots on, to make sure they fit. You looked at your feet, at your thin socks, remembering how cold your feet had been in your sneakers while doing the wood.

He picked up a pair of the socks, and handed them to you, pulling out a chair. You hesitantly sat, and pulled your socks off your feet, replacing them with the new ones. They were thick, and warm, and felt so nice.

"I hope the boots fit you, they look like they'll be nice and warm."

You looked up at him, and reached for a boot, slipping your foot in and closing your eyes, feeling so grateful. It was perfect, and you could feel your foot warming up already. They had felt like ice cubes since you'd come inside, and they weren't thawing out very quickly at all.

"How does it feel, Y/n? Does it fit okay?"

"It...it's perfect. It's so w...warm. T...thank you so much."

"There's no need to thank me. You've been helping me out a lot here, and you certainly deserve to be warm. Even though we finished the wood, I know you enjoy helping with the horses, and you'll need to dress properly when you go outside for anything."

You nodded, knowing he was right. Honestly, you had no way to buy anything for yourself, and you really didn't know how to thank him for all this.

"You should put the other boot on, make sure they feel ok."

He handed you the other boot and you pushed your foot in, standing up to see how they felt. They really were perfect, and you didn't want to take them off.

"I hope the rest fits. I suppose you can try everything on later, whenever you're ready. If anything doesn't fit, just let me know, I'll take it back and exchange it for you, okay?"

He had to be the kindest, most considerate man you'd ever met. Not that you could even know that for sure, because you really hadn't met a lot of men. You had taken care of your daddy from the time you were 14, up until you turned 17, and certainly didn't  have time for boyfriends before or during those years. Then you'd met the only boyfriend you'd ever had.

But still, his kindness was something you had never experienced. Most people seemed to avoid you on the rare occasions you had gone someplace with your boyfriend.

"How bout I take all this up to your room, that way you can try everything on later."

"Okay." You wanted to say more, thank him for doing this for you. He'd expressed that you didn't need to thank him, but how could you not. As far as you were concerned, he was going way above and beyond to make sure you were okay, and felt safe.

"Which room did you choose? I wasn't sure which one you were in because it was so quiet and dark when I went to bed..."

"T...the first one. Is that o...okay?

"That's perfectly okay. I'll be right back."

He walked away with the jeans, tops and socks, reappearing a minute later with a laptop. He sat at the kitchen table, opening it, typing quickly and hitting enter. He looked at you and waved you over.

You walked up to stand next to him, glancing at the screen to see what he was looking at. The screen lit up with thumbnails showing images of ladies underwear and bras. You felt your face getting warm instantly.

He gazed at you, a kind look on his face as he got up from the chair, and motioned for you to sit down.

"Obviously, I wasn't going to try to guess sizes for things like this, but I know you need them. Add whatever you want to the cart, and don't worry about what it costs, it doesn't matter, okay?"

You looked up at him anxiously, studying his face. He smiled at you, and walked away, disappearing into the living room.

You looked at the screen in front of you, not sure what to do. How were you supposed to add items to a cart, and let this man buy them for you, especially items such as this? But you needed them, he was right about that. You'd left without bringing a single thing with you. You weren't even wearing undergarments at the moment, because you had taken them off to wash them.

You swallowed. You could pick 5 bras and 5 pairs of underwear, that should be enough to get you thru, and you were sure laundry would be done at least once or twice a week, so you wouldn't run out.

He'd said not to worry about what anything costs, but that was something that was imbedded in your brain. Be frugal, spend wisely, don't waste money. You found the cheapest items you could find in your size, nothing fancy, only functional. Once you had them added to the cart, you sat there for a few minutes, staring at nothing, wondering if you should find him and let him know you were finished.

You got ready to get up, but before you could, he reappeared, approaching you with his beautiful smile.

"All finished?"

You nodded, getting up so he could sit and check out.

He glanced at the screen, then looked at you, his mouth opening, but closing again before he said anything.

Just then, Gucci appeared from nowhere, meowing loudly.

"Would you mind filling her bowl with food for me, Y/n. She's a bottomless pit, I swear she never stops eating."

"S...sure. Where do you keep the cat food?"

"It's in the laundry room, in a container next to the washer, there's a scooper in it, one scoop should fill her bowl."

You went to do as he'd asked, the cat right behind you. She eagerly followed you as you dumped the scoop of food into her bowl, burying her face into it as she ate as if she were starving, which clearly wasn't the case.

After you'd returned the scoop and closed the container, you returned to the kitchen, only to see him concentrating on the laptop screen. You didn't want to interrupt him, so you wandered into the living room, sitting down in the recliner and picking up the book you'd started reading the day before.

Maybe you would read a chapter or two. It was still early in the day, and you weren't sure if he had any other plans, but he hadn't mentioned anything. You were feeling a little light headed anyway, a rest might be a good idea.

Later, after the sun went down, you would go take a shower, and then try on what he'd gotten for you, and make sure everything fit.

You sighed as you opened the book, knowing that you would never be able to thank this  man enough for making you feel safe, and comfortable. You didn't know why he was doing it, but you were more grateful than he would ever know.
