Chapter 1: I Dub Thee

Ever since Bakugou was a small toddler, he started to remember things that had not yet happened. Things that hadn't yet happened, at least, in that timeline. At first, it confused him, but he soon came to terms with the fact that he had been reborn, more than once, into his own life. He had experienced so much that, in a way, he had become too numb to feel excited, or much of anything at all other than numbness or boredom.

Even though he usually felt numb, it didn't stop him from loving his family. He just was mainly bored. But, he met Izuku, or Deku as he had called him in most previous timelines, he felt a connection. He always did. He may not have noticed it until several of his rebirths, but it was there. It was almost as if their destinies were forever intertwined, be it good or bad, or maybe it was just because they had always been childhood friends.

One day Bakugou and Izuku were at the park with some of the other neighborhood kids playing. He remembered this day. He sighed as he grabbed Izuku's bucket and held it up.

"You can read the last part of your name as Deku, it means useless," he told Izuku bluntly, having done this many times before.

While the others were amazed at his ability to read at their age, Izuku was sulking slightly.

"but it sounds kind of like Dekiru," he continued, remembering some darker timelines where he called him Deku.

"What does that mean Kacchan?" Izuku asked Bakugou calling him by his nickname, perking up.

"It means it can, so it's like you can do it," Bakugou answered.

He then proceeded to grab a stick, and as he was doing the motions he said, "I dub thee, sir Dekiru," in a tone not quite as bored as before, verging on a mix between playful and serious.

Then, the newly dubbed, Dekiru asked Bakugou to get on his knees, and copied what he did, but instead saying, "I dub thee, sir Kacchan."

"What did you do that for Dekiru?" Bakugou asked, curiosity dripping into his normally bored voice.

"Because you should be a knight too Kacchan! You are really smart, cool, really great at almost everything, and you're super nice too!" Dekiru replied smiling with nothing but pure admiration in his eyes.

Bakugou's eyes widened in shock. He had never even expected to ever be called nice in any of his lifetimes. A small part of him, probably from his first few lifetimes, told him Deku was lying and that Deku was looking down on him.  But, something else told him it was true, and looking at the expression on Deku- actually Dekiru's face, he knew Dekiru was completely honest with every word he said.

Bakugou had never been called nice. He remembered many timelines where he thought no one actually liked him, where he felt as if he was only even remotely liked for his quirk, where he was more of a bully or a villain than a hero. Not once, had anyone ever called him nice, especially not his mother and not even his father. He felt he understood why though. He was pretty rude, to say the least.

He was never called nice, and never expected to be called such, but here Dekiru was. He had a strange habit of not following his expectations. The Bakugou Katsuki was being called nice. As a heaviness in Bakugou's chest that he did not realize was there lifted, and the corners of his mouth also lifted, he realized. He was feeling something other than numbness or boredom. He was feeling... Joy! He felt something wet slide down his cheeks.

As Bakugou wiped his face more came. He was confused, but still joyful. Then it occurred to him that they were tears; happy tears!

"Ah! Kacchan are you alright?! Why are you crying?!" Dekiru fretted.

"I think these are happy tears... I didn't think I could cry happy tears," Bakugou said in, what was for once, childlike curiosity and wonder.

That was when the other kids decided to leave. They wanted to give Bakugou and Izuku their moment, and felt awkward just standing there.

"Let's go show my mom and Aunty!" Bakugou said excitedly, suddenly dragging Dekiru to their mothers.

"Why are you crying, and who made you cry?! HOW?!" his mother demanded of him once she saw his face.

"These are happy tears!" Bakugou told her excitedly.

Before she could reply, Bakugou hugged Izuku. "You really are my best friend! Thank you Dekiru!" he told him wiping his tears and smiling brightly, a shine in his eyes that hadn't been there before.

Their mothers of course took many pictures of the adorable scene so they could embarrass them when they got older. Bakugou would eventually demand the pictures be deleted later on of course. He wouldn't want to risk anyone seeing it and calling him weak for crying.

Just as Dekiru was about to reply, something told him to accept the thanks, as Bakugou wouldn't be one to thank others often, and would not for a long time.

Even as he went to sleep, having separated from his friend the previous day, and felt the joy fading, Bakugou started to think this might be his least crappiest life yet.
