Dancing Through Life

This meme isn't meant to be funny on my part, but to spread awareness. Cynthia is beautiful, even if she was a little rash on the whole "erasing me" thing. This isn't cute, this isn't funny. Don't make shit like this.

"Attention, students. It is my honor to announce that Prince Fieyro Tiglaar of Winkie will be filling out our student body having transferred from the Royal Winkie Academy."
Y/n practically leapt out of bed when she read the paper, screaming while throwing her clothes around for the perfect outfit. And of course, Galinda was helping her choose the right shoes.
Her squeals woke Elphabud, who took the pillow and put it over his head, turning to the wall.
"Please help him feel welcome without making direct eye-contact."
-
Most students tried to send a flirty signal to the prince as he entered with his horse, giggling as if they were still in highschool as he dismounted and parted for him. He stopped by the bulletin, where Pfannee was already, biting his lip. "Hi. Enroll here often?"
"Could I ask you..." Fiyero began, leaning closer.
"Anything," Pfannee said desperately. "Anything you want."
"...just to move out of the way?"
He realized how cringey he must be coming across and stepped aside. "Absolute - that's anything."
Y/n watched Fiyero from afar, Galinda snatching a random student's book and giving it to her to hide behind. She gave a thumbs-up as her bestie approached the prince aloofly. When she got close enough, she cleared her throat and Fiyero gave her a moment of attention. "Oh, hi."
"Are you looking for something?" she asked, noticing the bulletin. "Or...someone ~?"
"No, I was..." He stopped with a dry chuckle, shaking his head. "What was I doing?"
"How would I know?"
"Our first fight," he joked.
"Hm." She went to the other side of the bulletin and Fiyero followed, finding her pretending to read. She looked up with fake disinterest. "Oh. Still here? Hm. Well, Lindy and I promised to give tours to any new students, so...oh. You are a new student, aren't you?"
"I am, yeah. Though I'm not sure I'll last longer at this school than any of the others."
"But...I wasn't at any of your old schools," she said flirtatiously and sashayed away. Fiyero watched her, then decided to humor her by following.
-
They led him to the library, where Elphabud was studying with Nessa, his hair pulled up in a high-braid for better study-efficiency. Meanwhile, Nessa kept glancing at Boq whilst ignoring her schoolwork.
"And this is the...book room," Galinda said.
"It's where we keep all the rare books. Maybe some...medium-rare, too ~" She stroked Fiyero's bicep. Elphabud happened to catch a glance, silently fuming. Why he ever thought he had a chance was ridiculous. Especially when comparing him to the prince charming. Besides, Y/n loathed him.
But what peeved him further was Fiyero checking out the other female students. How could he when the most beautiful one wanted him?
"What do you do for fun around here?" Fiyero asked.
"Nothing," Galinda said.
Y/n tightened her grip on his arm with a little smirk. "Until now ~"
"Ever been to the Ozdust Ballroom?"
She drew her hand back, putting it over her mouth and fluttered her eyelashes. "Isn't that place somewhat illegal?"
Galinda leaned over and whispered, "And scandalocious?"
"It's both of those things. Also not far from here. Which is another plus."
Boq, who had been listening in, tripped off his ladder, landing in front of Fiyero. "You alright?" he laughed, reaching out to help him up.
"Yeah." Boq took his hand and was pulled up with great strength.
"I'm Fiyero Tiglaar. Of Winkie Country."
"Oh. Oz. Boq Woodsman." He stood in a small stack of books to make himself taller. "Of Munchkinland."
"Great." Y/n pulled Fiyero away from him and toss-tossed her hair. "Now what were you saying about the Ozdust and fun and you and me?"
Boq ran up to them with Galinda trying to yank him back. "Unfortunately, it's against the Shiz rules to go to town after dark."
Fiyero lugged his arm around him and the other around Y/n, who could have melted in her excitement. "I see that once again the responsibility to corrupt my fellow students falls to me."
Elphabud's, who had been listening, ears perked at the word corrupt and he keenly watched from the corner of his eye.
Fiyero:
The trouble with schools is
They always try to teach the wrong lesson
He tossed the book and cartwheeled away.
Fiyero:
Believe me, I've been kicked out of enough of them to know
He literally drop-kicked a book, punting it across the room.
The librarian came over and shushed him. He wrapped his arms around her and drew her closer.
Fiyero:
They want you to become less callow, less shallow
But I say, why invite stress in?
Stop studying strife
He shut the books of two students as the librarian came over sternly. "Shh!"
Fiyero:
And learn to live...
The unexamined life...
He twirled the librarian around and kissed her on the head, them picked her up and put her on a cart, rolling her away while she fanned herself. The students clapped and he bowed, then jumped on a desk.
Fiyero:
Dancing through life
Skimming the surface
Gliding where turf is smooth
Life is more painless
For the brainless
He rolled a random student's head around and jumped down.
Fiyero:
Why think too hard when it's so soothing?
Dancing through life
No need to tough it
When you can slough it off as I do
Nothing matters, but knowing nothing matters
It's just life, so keep dancing through!
He let himself fall into the crowds. At Elphabud's table, Nessa danced along, her brother giving her an odd look.
Fiyero set the shelves to spin faster and the students already on it ran through. Fiyero grabbed onto one of the bars in the middle and swung himself through.
Fiyero:
Dancing through life
Swaying and sweeping
And always keeping it cool
Life is fraughtless
When you're thoughtless
Those who don't try never look foolish
Dancing through life
Mindless and careless
Make sure you're where lies trouble is rife!
Woes are fleeting,
Blows are glancing
He jumped out, raising his voice to assert.
Fiyero:
When you're dancing through life!
Of course, there were more applause, the loudest coming from Y/n. It stopped when he moved his shoulders in synch and the others followed, then cheered again before he went to the middle of the room, everyone dancing around him.
Elphabud watched with a small tick, finally shutting his book. "I'm gonna go study outside, it's too loud," he said to Nessa and left.
Fiyero:
Let's go down to the Ozdust Ballroom
We'll meet there later tonight
We'll dance 'till it's light
Find the prettiest girl,
Give her a whirl
He made an if to reach for Y/n, but took Galinda instead. She laughed and swatted at him, which is when he spun her around and dipped her down.
Fiyero:
Right down to the Ozdust Ballroom
Come on, follow me
You'll be happy there
He let her up again and pushed her back into the crowd, where she literally fell into Galinda, who grabbed her by the back and pushed her back up.
Students:
Dancing through life
Down at the Ozdust
Fiyero:
Only because we know dust is what we come to
Students:
Nothing matters, but knowing nothing matters
It's just life!
So keep dancing through...
Y/n ran off with Galinda, arms linked, until Boq called out, "Galinda! Wait!" She stopped and he took one of his red handkerchiefs to dab against her forehead. "Here, keep it. I've got many." He put it on her shoulder. "I cry a lot."
She and Y/n shared a look, Galinda taking the handkerchief off her shoulder. "Well, thanks."
They tried to leave again, but Boq was insistent to talk to the blonde, jumping in front of them. "Galinda, um, I hope you'll save me a dance? I'll be there...waiting...all night."
They shared another look. Finally, Galinda said, "That's so kind. But you know what would be even kinder?"
Galinda:
See that tragically beautiful girl?
The one in the chair?
She gestured over to Nessa, who had gone back to studying.
Galinda:
It seems so unfair
We should go on a spree and not she
Gee, I know someone would be my hero
If that someone were to go invite her...
"Well...maybe I could invite her."
"Oh, Bick. You would do that for me?" She tucked the handkerchief back in his pocket.
"I would do anything for you," he said seriously.
After a moment, she asked, "Well?"
"Oh, right now?"
"Why not?"
"Go ask her right now?"
"Why not? I mean, she's already there." She was pushing him away and he looked back, nodded, then went to to Nessa and leaned against the table. By the brightened smile she had, it was clear she had accepted.
Y/n lightly smacked Galinda's shoulder. "You shouldn't have used a girl in a wheelchair like that."
She shrugged coyly. "I don't know what you mean. I love helping others. Speaking of..." She looked back and saw Fiyero leaning against the wall, smirking at Y/n, then pushed her over and sauntered away.
"Fiyero."
"Hey. You happen to be free tonight?" he asked, uncrossing his arms and walking up to her, making her heart briefly flutter with so that she ignored the vaguest feeling that something was wrong.
"Looks like it. After all..."
Y/n:
Now that we've met one another,
Fiyero, Y/n:
It's clear we deserve each other
Y/n:
You're perfect
Fiyero:
You're perfect
They had their hands around each other.
Fiyero, Y/n:
So we're perfect together
Born to be forever
Dancing through life!
-
Nessa went right out to Elphabud to tell him the good news, practically glowing. "You'll never guess what just happened to me."
"What?" he asked, looking up from his book.
"That perfectly adorable Munchkin boy just asked me out. He said he was too shy to ask me at first, but then Galinda emboldened him."
"Galinda?"
"Don't. Don't you dare say another word against her. Or Y/n. I'm about to have the happiest night of my life. And it's all thanks to Galinda."
Nessarose:
Finally, for this one night,
I'm about to have a fun night
With this Munchkin boy Galinda found for me
And I only wish there were
Something I could do for her
To repay her
Elphabud, see?
We deserve each other
And Galinda helped it come true
We deserve each other, me and 🐓
"Please, Elphabud, try to understand."
He managed a smile, even if he was displeased at her sudden affection towards Galinda and Y/n.
Elphabud:
I do
-
"And one, two, three!" Pfannee and ShenShen pulled Y/n's outfit on, one that fit her perfectly and made her look like a snack all you needed was some crackers to go with.
Galinda nodded as it slipped over her. "That was it," she declared.
"Oh, we're in."
"That was it."
"And it's perfect!"
"Oh, sweet Oz..."
"Wow..."

OR

[pants are an option]
She leaned over her mirror, doing the finishing touches. "I know, I'm just too beautiful, aren't I?"
"Yas, queen," Pfanned agreed. She and the others jumped around excitedly. "Fiyero is gonna lose what's left of his mind." They stopped, Y/n looking at him. "I mean, we nailed it."
"Now hurry up!" Galinda ordered the others while she finished Y/n up.
"I can't believe tonight is happening!" Y/n squealed.
"I know," ShenShen agreed. Pfannee looked for some touch-ups in Y/n's stuff.
"And he thought of the most perfect date."
He picked up a pointed hat between two fingers in disgust. "Um..."
ShenShen looked over, her nose scrunching up. "Ew. What even is that?" she whispered.
"Y/n?" he called, getting her attention. He raised the hat for her to see. "What's the reason?"
"Ugh, I wish I could say it wasn't mine," she said, ignoring the hat in favor of the mirror. "But my grandmummsy made it for me and Mom insisted I take it. I would give it away, but really. Who would deserve that?"
The room went silent and the three looked at her. Immediately, she soon her head. "I don't hate him...that much."
Galinda giggled and Pfannee and ShenShen shared a look and a smirk.
"Nooooo you guys are so mean!" But she was giggling, Pfannee already handing her the hat.
Elphabud opened the door, stopping when he saw Pfannee and ShenShen, who gave him awkward greetings. "Um, we should go," ShenShen said.
Pfannee nodded in agreement. "We have to go rouge our knees." On their way out, he whispered into Y/n's ear, "Do it."
"I'll come with," Galinda said and shot Y/n a wink. "Bye, Elphabud. Love your shoulder-pads."
"Yeah, you just always look..."
"...such a joy."
"So good and joyful."
When they were gone, he said, "When is Galinda coming back? I need to talk to her."
She saw him lean against his sorcery books and was suddenly angry that he got to take private lessons with Madam Morrible and not Galinda, who deserved it more and deserved everything she ever wanted. "Oh? Well actually, we were just talking about you," she said with a sweet smile. "And how you should join us tonight."
He blinked in disbelief. "I don't follow."
"You. Join us. At. The Ozdust." What are we doing as fine. She and Elphabud always played practical jokes on each other. "And I have the perf thing to go with any of your old outfits!" She held up the hat, suggestively wiggling her eyebrows.
It was fine.
Y/n:
It's really, uh, sharp, don't you think?
You know, black is this year's pink
You deserve each other
This hat and you, you're both so smart
You deserve each other, so here
She thrust it at him, Elphabud taking it and looking down at it.
Y/n:
Out of the goodness of my heart
She left with Elphabud already looking at his dresser, debating on if he would go and what he should wear if he did.
-
"We're gonna get arrested."
"Move. Come on, come on, come on, come on!"
Fiyero put a f/c flower in Y/n's hair, his hand lingering for a minute as he gazed at her adoringly.
Everyone called out in excitement as one of the boats came. They jumped into a boat, Boq helping Nessa in, which for once, she did not deny, and pushed it out, going out towards the ballroom.
-
The night was the definition of perfection. Y/n had Galinda, all their admirers...Fiyero. It was all perfect.
Except for a vague pit in her stomach. But she tried to brush it off as she laughed with her friends, dancing until the music slowed. That was when Fiyero held out his hand to Y/n. "May I have the pleasure?"
Her toes began to tingle as she took his hand and they began to dance. But his blue eyes seemed dark and bigger in her mind and when she had taken his hand, she saw for a split-second that it was green.
Across the ballroom, Boq watched the group - read: Galinda - as he sipped on his drink while his date sat across from him. He turned to her awkwardly, taking in a deep breath. "Listen, Nessa?"
She looked at him expectantly. "Yes?"
Boq:
Uh, Nessa?
I got something to confess, a
Reason why, well,
I asked you here tonight
And I know it isn't fair
"Oh, Boq, I know why?" she sighed.
His breath caught in his throat a moment. "You do?"
Nessarose:
It's because I'm in this chair
And you felt sorry for me
"Well? Isn't that right?'
"No!" he said immediately, putting his hands out. "Whoa. No, no. I don't feel sorry for you. You're great. I asked you because..." He looked back at Galinda, who was already surrounded by a flock of boys asking her to dance. "Because..." She giggled and smacked at them, toss-tossing her hair.
Boq:
Because I think you are so beautiful!
Nessa, caught off-guard, smiled and was beautiful. "Oh, Boq."
Nessa:
I think you're wonderful
And we deserve each other, don't you see?
This is our chance
We deserve each other, don't we, Boq?
He mentally cursed himself for getting her hopes up. But for this one night...maybe he could at least...
"You know what? Let's dance."
"What?"
Boq:
Let's dance!
He took her hands instead of her chair and pulled her out, Nessa laughing the whole way, and began to dance along with everyone else. Even though they could not do everything, he tried his best to spin her around.
When the music died out, just as Y/n and Galinda went for the punch bowl, arms linked, but stopped by Madam Morrible. "You," she said, pointing to Galinda and they were all certain they were about to be arrested.
"Me?"
To Y/n, she said, "And you can go back to...whatever it is you're doing."
She and Galinda shared a nervous look and Y/n began to step away. Galinda grabbed for her, shaking her head. "Sorry, Lindy, I think I hear Fiyero calling for me."
She was gone and Galinda had to face Madam Morrible, who was stone-faced, making her heart drop. "Madam Morrible, you are...seriously, I wrote you so -"
"Enough."
She closed her mouth, not daring to open it again. She took out a wand and handed it over, Galinda gasping. "A magic wand?"
"It's a training wand," she corrected.
"A training wand? For me?" She held it in both hands, looking at it with wonder. "Madam Morrible, how can I express my gratitution? It is my heart's desire to become a sorceress...thank you for having faith in me."
"Actually, I have no faith in you." That made Galinda's smile drop. "This was your roommate's idea, not mine."
"I don't understand."
"Mr. Elphabud has requested I include you in our sorcery seminars and insisted I tell you this very night or he would quit."
"Elphabud did?"
"Mm-hm?"
"But why?"
She sighed, has to the side. "I'm a sorceress, not a mind-reader. I have no idea why, but I can't risk losing him, so here I am." She cleared her throat and continued. "My personal opinion, dear, is that you do not have what it takes. I hope you prove me wrong...I doubt you will." She looked behind her and saw someone enter. "Uh, you may want to thank him. He just got here."
"What?" she asked, surprised that Elphabud would come again.
"I need a drink," she said instead of answering and went to find where the kids were hiding the booze.
Galinda ran to find Y/n, squealing and for once ignoring all her fans. When she found her, she ran up and grabbed her hands, bouncing up and down. "I'm in! I'm in I'm in I'm in!"
"Huh?" she questioned.
"Elphabud got me into the sorcery seminars! He's my new favorite person besides you!"
"He...what?"
She stopped, confused. "What?"
"Oh no..."

Elphabud peeked in, no glasses, the music still loud and chatter indecisive. He began to walk down, hoping Y/n was telling the truth in him being accepted. But from the first horrified look a girl gave him, he began to feel it was another joke played on him.
But this one seemed too far.
"What is he wearing?"
"What a ridiculous hat."
People kept watching as he came in, whispering amongst themselves. Even the music stopped, only making more people look in his direction. Soon, he was in the middle of the staring crowd. He surveyed it and found Nessa, who immediately looked at her lap.
When Galinda saw, she gasped behind her hand and looked at Y/n, looking on at him helplessly.
Elphabud took off the hat and placed it on the floor, then turned back to the crowd. His hands wrapped around his waist and his fingers wiggled. He put his wiggling hands on his head and torso and began to do a strange interpretive dance, leaning into the crowd enough to scare them back.
"His hat is disgustifying."
"What is he doing?"
"Oh, look at him go."
"What does he think he's doing?"
"Is he dancing?"
Scattered laughter and mock applause. Y/n shook her head, wishing to do something.
"I'll say this much," Fiyero whispered to the girls. "He doesn't give a twig about what anyone else thinks."
"Of course he does," Y/n said. "He just pretends not to."
Nessa sighed, looking away from the second-hand embarrassment. "I can't watch."
"I feel awful," Y/n said.
"Why?" Fiyero asked. "It's not like it's your fault."
Galinda only used her eyes to glance at her, keeping her head to Elphabud. Y/n could only look up at Fiyero for a moment before saying in a breaking voice, "It is..."
She pushed away from them and towards Elphabud. People gave a true cheer now, but Y/n was dead to it, playing with her hands. Elphabud only gave her a lidded look.
She took in a breath and put her hands around her waist. He ignored her at first until she put it on her head, wiggling her fingers. The whole crowd went silent while she twirled around, eventually facing Pfannee and ShenShen, both looking furious at her.
"What are you doing?"
"Stop," ShenShen hissed.
She looked at them, disgusted, and said loud enough for everyone to hear, "No." Turning back to Elphabud, she kept dancing, Elphabud doing the same.
Soon, they were mimicking the other's movements and came with their hands out near each other's faces. She looked at him and saw tears had trickled down his cheeks and reached over to wipe them away, cupping his cheek. "It's alright, Elphabud, I'm here."
She took his hand and began a half waltz, half interpretive dance, bringing their styles together to create something new entirely. When he twirled her out, she put her other hand on her head and did a full-circle with it, her fingers wiggling once more. She let go of his hand and ran to the other side of the room, then ran back, jumping into his arms for a hug. He hugged back, more tears falling onto her shoulder.
Everyone else began to do the strange dance, Galinda coming into the middle to do it, showing she stood with them. Even Fiyero was, watching the three with a smile.
Y/n picked up the discarded hat and put it back on Elphabud's head, stroking his cheek.
Everyone stomped to the beat and eventually thrust their hands at the three.
Dancing through life
Here at the Ozdust
If only because dust is what we come to
Fiyero smiled around the ballroom. His work at corrupting the student body seemed to be done.
Y/n took both of her friends' hands and ran out of the ballroom with them.
And here's a strange thing:
Your life could end up changing
While you're dancing through...
They ran out, none of them caring any longer if they were welcome because they had all they needed: each other.
