I had just gotten home from a hard day at work. Well, most people had it harder, but my job was...challenging.

I worked as an actress, Caste 2. Right now, I was in a movie called "the depth", about a girl who was stranded in a sinking boat. I played the main character. I had auditioned with thousands of eager women, and yet I was chosen for the lead. I still couldn't believe it.

I drove home and parked in my car in the long driveway.

Once inside,I ran to my room and flew onto my bed. We were Shooting a scene today where the ship was going down. Lots of lines, and lots of stage directions.

And there was a LOT of green screen. Fun.

But as I rolled over, I remembered something. Something really important.

"The selection" I whispered.

Omg! How could I forget! The names were being drawn tonight!

I opened my door and a black shape zoomed in. I smiled.

It was my cat, Roscoe. He was the cutest little thing.

"Roscoe!" I looked around my room, wondering where he went.

"Roscoe!" I called again, but he didn't appear. That's okay, we'll have snuggle sessions tomorrow.

I ran to the living room, where my family gathered after work was over.

"Hey mum! Hiya dad!" I said as I entered.

My parents were sitting on the loveseat, reading their respective  books.

"Darling!" My mom cooed.

"You look so beautiful today!" She waved me over and I smiled as I headed for them.

My mom elbowed dad, who looked up from his book.

"Yes, dear you look amazing." He said.

I blushed. I knew it was my family's job to compliment me, and they did really well.

"Thank you mum, you look younger today."

Mum beamed. She stood up and drew me into a hug.

"That is the best thing to say to someone my age, keep that up and I'll buy you that old play you wanted." She sat back down.

"Yes, mum." I said.

I made my way to my seat, a light blue plush armchair with a pillow. On the table beside it lay a book- no, play- which I opened.

I didn't get far into it before I heard a noise.

It was my grandparents and aunt entering. I stood to welcome them.

My grandmother, ever glamorous, looked at me.

"My dear, what have you been using on your face?" She asked. Was I in trouble?

"It's.. A new one, by some scientists. It's said to reduce acne and soften the skin." I explained.

"You'll have to let me borrow it sometime dear, it's doing wonders to your skin. So you think it works on wrinkles too?" She asked, a twinkle in her eye.

My grandmother used to be a model in her time, and you could still see some of that in her. It was the way she stood and the way she held herself. I looked up to my grandmother very much, she is a picture of poise and elegance.

Now, my grandpa I loved too. After grandmother left to her chair, he pulled me into a hug.

"Hello Ma Belle." He smiled, and he smelled of sweet honey.

My grandpa is originally from a far off country, called France. He speaks French, and as a child he taught it to me. He calls me "Ma belle", which means my pretty.

"Hello grandpa." I said to him, his grey beard tickling my cheek.

"How are you ma belle?" He asked, releasing me.

"Very good, grandpa. We just finished filming the first scene of the movie." I smiled.

"And you?" I asked.

From a young age, I was taught how to be polite, stand still and be a "perfect lady.", which I hoped dearly I was.

"That's wonderful ma belle, and I am doing very well." He smiled at me and walked away, but not before slipping me a lemon candy.

I smiled, he knew those were my favourite.

Then came my aunt, who was a mystery to me.

She was very kind, but very quiet. She hardly spoke up. I knew that she was a model, the main trade of my family, but she was let go after years of amazing service. I didn't know why, but the rest of my family did. I didn't see why they wouldn't tell me, I was almost 18 after all.

"Hello auntie." I smiled.

"Hello Annabelle." She looked at me.

"You have grown into a beautiful young lady." She said.

"Thank you auntie." I replied, stiff.

"I hope you find the right man." She said to me, before walking away.

"Or-" I heard, but the rest of the sentence was cut off my mum turning on the television.

I sat down, back straight and hands on my lap.

Grandmother glanced back at me, and nodded in approval.

I smiled at her and focused my attention on the television. After the first few were chosen, Roscoe decided to show up. He jumped in my lap and I pet him.

I saw all sorts of girls names pass by, and faces. They were all so pretty.

Then it came time for the girl from Calgary to be selected.

I held my breath as a name was picked, and the piece of paper was unfolded.

"Annabelle LaMotte"

I was frozen. No.way. I was one of the selected?

My grandmother started clapping, and my grandpapa turned to me. He smiled.

"I'm so excited for you, ma belle."

My aunt stood up and was staring at the screen, and mum ran over to me.

"Annabelle! You've been selected! You will be such a good princess!"

Roscoe jumped off my lap and ran out, probably scared by my grandmothers crying.

My dad, usually oblivious to what was going on around him, came over too and hugged me. Mum started crying hysterically.

But among all the chaos, my only thought was; I won't be able to finish the movie.
