Finally, after a long day of spellcasting and studying dark magic, my brothers and I are heading home. Despite my earlier reservations, I am starting to enjoy the subject. It is certainly intriguing. It is dark, and just before Midnight. We walk cautiously, peering through the gloom. We arrive at a wide, rushing river and stop at the edge.
"Let's make a bridge. We know how." I say. My brothers roll their eyes, but then they widen. "Okay."
We put our wands together and chant under our breaths, "Born of bones, and bathed with blood, BUILD!"
Bones of those who had drowned in the river rose from the river and bound together with a reddish liquid seeping over the sides. In less than ten seconds we had a bridge. Antioch said "I wish my wand was better! This would have been SO much faster!"I roll my eyes, and think that my wish is so much better.
As we start across a shadow spreads like oil across the moon. We freeze as a ghostly wind waves the branches of a nearby Elm tree. A pile of stones roll unnaturally across the ground and the water rises to cover the stones in the river. An Inferie like presence rose from the river and spoke in a voice that sounded like millions of voices speaking together.
"I am eternal darkness, I am feared by all, I AM DEATH! Take heed-watch your boasting, your longing, and your fear, or you will see me very soon."
And on that ominous note, he sank beneath the water and a shimmery bundle lay on a rock where Death had been standing. I bent down and retreated it. I unwrapped the bundle, and saw a stick of elder and a stone engraved with a strange symbol.. My brothers lept over each other to reach my bundle and seized the stick and stone-Sticks and stones, ha that sounds like the rhyme- stacks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me. I wonder if that's true of the items Death left us-they left me with the shimmery wrapper. I noticed it was cloak-sized and folded into a triangle. I shivered in the air still chilled by the appearance of Death. I covered myself in the cloak completely, and despite the fact it covered my eyes, I could see.
"Ignotus, where did you go?" Asked Antioch. His stick reacted like a wand and pointed at me.
I moved the material off my head and Cadmus gasped. I had an Invisibility Cloak! I could see the wanting in my brothers' eyes, and longed to cover myself and disappear.
I realized we were still on the bridge and hurried off. It would be a long walk home.
