Chapter 11

Chapter 11:
Fire, Innocence, and an Unbreakable Promise

The sleek black sports car tore through the dark city streets, pulling up sharply before a towering glass skyscraper that glowed like polished gold against the midnight sky. The air inside still hummed with the sharp sting of Amanda's cruel words, and Kath turned to Gavin, her chest heaving, her heart hammering against her ribs as she searched his face for the truth.

"Gavin-tell me it's not true," she whispered, her voice trembling with fear and longing. "Did they really arrange a marriage for you... with Olivia?"

A dark, furious scowl twisted his handsome features, his jaw tightening so hard the muscle feathered beneath his skin. His deep, dark brown eyes burned with raw annoyance and rage-rich, warm, yet blazing like smoldering embers. He shot her a fierce, protective look, his knuckles turning white around the steering wheel.

"No," he bit out, his voice rough and edged with venom. "Don't you ever believe a single word that lying, hateful woman spews. She twists everything just to hurt us. Forget her. Come here."

He was out of the car in a heartbeat, rounding to her side in long, urgent strides, hauling her flush against his chest before she could even step out. He pressed a fierce, burning kiss to her forehead-hot, claiming, a promise all its own-before leading her through the lavish marble lobby. Warm amber light spilled across the floors and walls, but the warmth vanished the moment the blonde receptionist's gaze landed on them. Her bright, flirty smile for Gavin died instantly, twisting into a cold, venomous glare that bored straight into Kath-jealous, sharp, as if she'd stolen something that belonged to her.

"Good evening, Mr. Lorenzo," she simpered, her voice dripping with fake, sugary sweetness.

Gavin didn't even glance her way. He kept his gaze locked only on Kath, his fingers laced tight and possessive through hers-hot, firm, refusing to let go-as he dragged her straight toward the private elevator, the polished metal doors sliding shut behind them to seal them into their own private world.

"Gavin-wait-what are we doing here?" she breathed, confusion mixing with the wild heat already sparking between them. Her skin hummed just from being near him, her pulse racing uncontrollably.

He didn't answer-not with words. The instant the elevator sealed them in, he spun her around and slammed her back against the cool mirrored wall, caging her completely in the strength of his body. His mouth crashed down on hers-hungry, wild, consuming, no hesitation, no holding back. It was a kiss that tasted of expensive cologne, lingering wine, and desperate, burning longing. His tongue tangled fiercely with hers, claiming every breath, swallowing her soft, breathless moans as he poured every ounce of his need into her. One hand fisted deep into her hair, tilting her head back just enough to deepen the kiss, while the other slid shamelessly, boldly up her bare thigh beneath the hem of her short black dress-hot, rough, burning against her sensitive skin.

"I love you-only you, Kath," he growled raggedly against her lips, his dark brown eyes blown wide and black with desire, gleaming with a raw intensity that stole her breath. He wrenched the fabric higher, palming her firmly through the thin lace of her underwear, making her cry out softly, her knees buckling completely. "You're so fucking beautiful... so perfect for me. I'm going to ruin you for anyone else-you'll only ever want me."

Her head spun, every nerve ending set ablaze under his touch. She melted into him instantly, her arms locking tight around his neck, her fingers tangling into his thick dark hair, pressing her body flush to his-feeling every hard line of him, every thundering beat of his heart matching hers. His lips tore from hers only to blaze a scorching trail down her jawline and along the sensitive curve of her throat-open‑mouthed, wet, hungry kisses, his teeth grazing gently then sinking just enough to leave dark, blooming love marks branding her skin-marking her as his, only his.

Am I ready for this? flashed once in the back of her mind-then vanished completely, swept away by the wild, overwhelming passion he ignited in her. She didn't want to hold back anymore. She craved his touch, his love, his everything more than she had ever craved anything in her life. She arched sharply into him, gasping his name like a prayer, completely surrendering.

The elevator chimed softly, the doors gliding open to reveal his penthouse-but he barely even paused, dragging her out without breaking his hold on her. The space around them was breathtaking: floor‑to‑ceiling windows overlooking the glittering sea of city lights, warm wood and smooth stone walls, fairy lights strung like glowing stars, shelves lined with books and framed photographs. Her eyes caught one instantly: a young, grinning Gavin standing beside a beautiful woman with the same deep dark brown eyes as him-his mother. But Gavin didn't spare a single glance for anything else. He backed her straight toward the bedroom, kicking the door shut behind them, plunging them into soft, golden candlelight.

The bed was enormous, piled high with plush pillows and soft throws, dressed in crisp white linens that smelled of him-clean, warm, sandalwood and faint musk. He shrugged off his suit jacket roughly, yanking his tie loose, his dark brown eyes never leaving hers-burning, worshipful, hungry as he drank in every inch of her.

"Let me see all of you," he whispered, his voice thick and trembling with longing.

He helped her slip out of her dress with reverent, yet frantic hands, kissing every inch of newly exposed skin-her collarbones, the swell of her breasts, her waist, her hips, lower and lower until she was writhing beneath him, gasping and crying his name, completely lost to the pleasure he gave her. When he finally joined her, it was wild, fierce, achingly tender all at once-their bodies moving as one, feverish and desperate, love spilling out in every breath, every kiss, every deep, claiming thrust. The sheets tangled wildly around them, a faint pink bloom staining the pristine white fabric-proof she had given him her innocence, freely and completely, body and soul. They loved until dawn began to paint the sky pale grey, until they were both spent and trembling, wrapped tight in each other's arms, marked forever by each other's love.

Next Morning

Bright golden sunlight spilled through the tall windows, flooding the room and waking Kath with a soft, breathless groan. She lifted a hand to shield her eyes, her body feeling deliciously heavy-every muscle pleasantly sore, her thighs tender, a lingering throbbing warmth between her legs reminding her vividly of every touch, every kiss, every wild moment from the night before. This wasn't her small bedroom at home with its familiar yellow sheets; this bed was enormous, impossibly soft, dressed in crisp white and muted grey linens.

She sat up slowly, pulling the sheet tight around her bare chest, her hair spilling in wild, messy waves down her back. The penthouse was silent-Gavin was nowhere to be seen. The room itself was immaculate, sleek and refined in shades of black, white, and soft grey-nothing like the messy boy's room she'd once imagined. Her gaze drifted to the nightstand, where two framed photographs sat side by side.

The first held a picture of a young, cheeky‑grinning Gavin-barely seven or eight years old-standing beside the same beautiful woman from the portrait, his mother, her dark brown eyes identical to his own. But the second frame made her smile falter instantly. It showed a young Gavin at his birthday party, colorful balloons floating behind him, his mother smiling proudly beside him... and right next to him, a young blonde girl holding his cake, beaming happily at him.

Kath's breath caught in her throat. She recognized that face instantly-it was Olivia.

Her heart sank slowly, a heavy, aching weight settling in her chest. They were childhood friends... everyone says they belong together. She has everything-wealth, status, a perfect family, the life I could only dream of growing up with. My mother was a maid, my father left us... I'm nothing compared to her.

But then the memories of last night flooded back-how Gavin had defended her fiercely, how he'd looked at her like she was the only woman in the world, how his dark brown eyes had burned with nothing but love and desire for her alone. Guilt warred with the fierce, lingering heat of his touch, until her gaze fell on a folded note resting beside the frames.

Her fingers trembled as she unfolded it:

Good morning, my love.

I'm so sorry I wasn't here when you woke. My father called at dawn-urgent business I couldn't refuse, or I'd have stayed wrapped in your arms forever. Last night... it was the wildest, most perfect night of my life. You trusted me, gave yourself to me completely, and I'll cherish that gift until my last breath. I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you-loving you, protecting you, giving you everything you deserve, no matter what anyone says. I already called your mother, told her you're safe here with me, so don't worry about her. Skip university today-just rest, my beautiful girl.

I love you more than words can ever say. You're mine-only mine.

Kath pressed the note tight against her chest, happy, warm tears spilling down her cheeks. Outside, the sun rose bright and golden... and deep in her heart, she knew-no arrangement, no past, no judgment could ever tear them apart.
