Excerpt #63

❝It's all over, isn't it? We've danced our final duet together. The flame is fading and waning and wanting to burn out, as we already have. Your face told the story long ago and I was too prideful to hear it. Your eyes opened one day, cloudier than usual, filled with disdain and regret. You wrapped your arms around me in a weak embrace, the emotions had left you and you couldn't bring yourself to say it, even though those words weren't needed because the truth dawned as clear as daylight, it would have been helpful to hear them in order to move onward. I've been trapped in stasis ever since you awoke that day and misplaced your love for me. It had vanished in a mere eve. How important could I have ever been for you to lose all compassion? I began questioning myself, my worth, my future, for it wasn't with you. None of these things were ever in your hands. Your fingertips were glass and you couldn't bear another load, you already had so much to contain, don't you remember? Don't you remember leaving me in the rain as I screamed your name, all because you couldn't handle my pain that you were the cause of? I remember. I needed to regain my momentum and escape the state of stasis I'd been trapped in for far too long. I'm finally prepared to close the chapter of my life that you've tainted, and I'm ready to open the book to brand new pages.❞
