CHAPTER 2

The water trickled around Nightshade's paws as she watched for fish. The wind that rustled through the leaves was rather loud, yet it was pleasant. It made the area feel less alone, in a way. How did this all happen? Why did this all happen? It was very hard for Nightshade to remember, but she could remember small bits of the evacuation.

Nightshade pulled her paw out of the water and dipped her tail in for a moment to cool off. As the sun continued to reach a higher point, the more she realized it was getting hotter, and she needed to cool down. Perhaps if she moved downstream into the shade, she could find something.

Yeah. Nightshade liked that idea. She stood up and pulled her tail out, walking along the waterbed and towards the shade. Eventually, she found a dip in the ground. It was a small waterfall, and very pretty. The trees that were around it stretched seemingly forever and were varied between the types. Pine, maple, oak, it all blended together so nicely!

Nightshade sat down in the shade and took a sip of the water, before going back to fishing. She watched and waited.

And waited...

And waited. It didn't seem as though fish were here either, which was odd. After a few more moments, Nightshade saw one. "Aha! You can't escape me forever y'know!" She chuckled quietly, as she waited for the fish to swim past.

As soon as it got near, she flashed a paw into the water, focusing entirely on the fish. If she didn't catch this, then Solanaceae would probably go hungry, and the thought made Nightshade a little bit upset. She didn't want to lose the only family she has left. Especially not the only Pokémon who she'd seen in a long time, too.

The fish seemed to evade Nightshade's paw, and it swam off. "Dammit!" She grumbled, upset.

She sat there, pondering on what to do now, and waiting for another fish to swim past. She'd sit here all night if it meant Solanaceae would eat, even if it put her into more danger. With each passing minute, it grew hotter, and hotter out. She hated it to an unnecessary degree.

Nightshade closed her eyes, leaving her paw in the water. She needed to catch this fish for her sister, and that's the important thing, although if she got heat exhaustion, then there'd be no fish to even bring back regardless.

She opened her eyes once more and looked at her reflection. It just now hit her that she has horns. A leafeon with horns was certainly an odd development, especially when her older brother was a bit more normal in appearance compared to her!

Nightshade sighed and watched the water once more. Another fish was slowly swimming past. A magikarp was perfect! She stood up and got ready to pounce. A magikarp was too big to swat out of the water easily, so she had to make do by tackling it and hoping it wouldn't drown her.

After a quick moment, she pounced. She felt the Pokémon struggle, but she didn't want her sibling to be hungry. After a long while, Nightshade resurfaced from the water with the magikarp. She dropped it on the waterbed and took a moment to breathe.

She admired the magikarp for a while. Its reds were just like the blood moon a few nights prior, and it was rather large! It was perfect, maybe it was also possible to split it!

"Finally, food!"
