More Colorado and DC bonding 'cuss I can

Colorado was high and someone was crying.

The high part wasn't uncommon, Colorado swore he spent about ninety-five percent of his day high; Connecticut swore it wasn't healthy and California said he really needed to cut down, but compared to what he was into as a teenager, this was nothing.

The crying part, that was the difference.

Colorado kicked the covers off of himself and opened his bedroom door, looking out at the dimly lit hallway of the Statehouse. Even with his brain half muddled, he could still make out the half-shadowed figure of DC curled up into himself in the hall, suit all rumbled, hands tugging at his hair, and slowly hitting his head against the wall.

"DC?" Colorado called, confused. He knew the fed stayed up late often, even when he was back from Washington, but he never knew him to have a breakdown, at least not in his presence.

"God I'm so stupid." DC whimpered. Colorado closed his door behind him and approached the fed, who continued to hit his head against the wall and dig his hands into his scalp. The western state sat down next to DC, forcing him to take his hands out of his head like he'd seen California do so many times. DC finally looked up at Colorado, eyes going wide when he saw who was sitting beside him.

"Colorado, I....sorry I...." DC stuttered trying to get away.

"DC what's wrong?" Colorado asked.

"I....I'm just overwhelmed by work." DC admitted, smiling weakly.

"At one in the morning man?"

"Hey you're up too." DC pointed out.

"That's right!" Colorado said with a laugh. He looked down at DC's hands and saw how bad they were shaking, how his body looked ready for a panic attack. California didn't spill too many details about DC's life before he started dating the other five, but from what he heard DC's father did a number on him.

"You need to go to bed." Colorado finally said. DC snorted.

"I'm not going to be able to sleep. I never do." DC muttered. Colorado's foggy brain shone with recognition, and he jumped up.

"Stay right there." Colorado ordered before dashing back into his room again. He took an unlit joint from his ashtray and his lighter, and ran back into the hallway, plopping next to DC.

"Here, this always helps me go to sleep." Colorado announced holding out the joint.

"Oh no, no I don't." DC said nervously.

"Have you ever tried it before?" Colorado asked. DC gulped and shook his head.

"Have you ever been curious since Florida and California smoke?" DC gulped again and slowly, ever so slowly, nodded.

"I'll be with you the whole time bud." Colorado said with a smile before lighting up the joint. DC watched with wide eyes as Colorado sucked in some smoke, before blowing out. The stoner handed the joint to DC, who took it nervously. He stared at the paper before putting the end to his lips, and sucking it in.

"Hold it in for a second." Colorado whispered. At exactly a minute, DC blew the smoke out, looking at Colorado with wide eyes.

"So....how'd you like it?" Colorado asked.

"I....I...." DC grinned and slumped his head against the wall. "I feel great...."

"See! I knew it'd get you sleepy." Colorado joked, nudging the fed.

"Mm....yeah....I....I'm literally floating." DC joked, handing the joint back to Colorado. Colorado chuckled and gave the joint back to DC.

"Nah man, future brother-in-law privilege. You get to finish it." Colorado announced. DC hummed happily and brought the joint back to his lips, sucking in more smoke and blowing it out with a giggle. Colorado couldn't believe it, he got his brother's boyfriend high. And not just any of his boyfriend's the fed.

"You feel tired?" Colorado asked.

"Mmph....do we....do we have time for some fries before I go to bed. 'M hungry." DC announced. Colorado laughed and playfully shoved the stoned government.

"Now you're speaking my language!"

"YOU GOT HIM HIGH?"

Colorado glanced up at the angry face of his brother early the next morning in the kitchen. He was just telling Oregon how DC took to smoking so easily and how fast it put him to bed when California walked in at the worst possible minute.

"Whoa DC's one of us now!" Florida cheered.

"Cali I was just trying to help him sleep." Colorado announced.

"He's not going to like what you did! The edibles are one thing, but actually smoking? He's going to freak." California groaned.

"Hey DC's a grown man, he can make his own decisions!" Florida argued before leaning into Colorado. "Did he cough any?"

"Nah bro, took right to it." Colorado announced proudly.

"That's my man!" Florida said proudly.

"Can we focus?" California yelled. "Not only is DC not going to be happy, but IDC isn't going to be so thrilled."

"Poppy you're being dramatic, nothing wrong with partaking every now and then." Louisiana pointed out.

"Not the federal government!" California hissed. At that moment, DC came out to breakfast, surprising everyone with how well-rested he looked.

"Morning!" DC greeted.

"Wow." Louisiana muttered.

"You slept well last night, Dee?" Florida teased.

"Oh God I slept like a baby. I don't even remember what I was stressed about." DC said with a laugh pouring himself some coffee. California ignored the 'we told you so' looks from Florida and Colorado as he approached his boyfriend.

"Rosie, how much do you actually remember?" California whispered.

"Poppy relax, I know what you're talking about." DC said with a soft smile touching California's chest with his hand. "I was fine, Coco took care of me."

"Tucked him right into bed after." Colorado said proudly.

"Yeah after charging my credit card for three packs of McDonald's fries." Connecticut muttered not looking up from his paper.

"PFFFFT three? Dee, next time we smoke, I want to see if you can break my record of six." Florida said.

"Well I don't know when the next time will be, but thanks Dia." DC said smiling softly.

"Are you sure--"

"Poppy I'm fine." DC whispered kissing California on the lips. "Just please don't tell IDC, she'll flip." California stood stunned as DC walked off with his coffee, leaving the four in the kitchen.

"So uh....you were saying?" Louisiana asked.

"I don't know how I feel about my brother corrupting my boyfriend." California admitted turning back to the group.

"Cali he was already corrupted." Colorado pointed out.

"He's dating me!" Florida announced gleefully, and California was at least inclined to agree. Still, there was something freeing about DC letting himself go and allowing himself the experiences he wasn't allowed.

Next time, though, he was sure to be there when DC got high.
