Day Two
Albus laid on his little mattress, shivering. Not from the cold but the fright going through his body. This couldn't being happening. He thought. This could not be real.
When he heard the floor squeak and the sound of feet coming down the stairs, he peered through his arm which covered his face. The man walked down the stairs and smirked at him.
"Hello baby boy, are you ready to play nicely now?" He taunted but Albus shook his head. There was no way he would be playing anything. "Oh then I guess I'll just have to punish you then."
"Please Mi... Dom, please don't hurt me. I won't say anything, I promise. I'll tell everyone I just wandered off and then found my way back, please." Albus begged but the older man smirked.
"Oh baby boy, you really do plead so nicely," The man swept over to where Albus was lying and yanked him up by the hair. "But you need to be punished for being bad." He hissed and Albus cried shaking his head.
"Please no, please let me go." Albus begged but the older man was having none of it. He pulled Albus over to the chains on the wall and hung him from them; Albus' feet barely touching the ground. "Please." Albus pleaded but it was no use. He knew that even after the mere time spent there. Pleading didn't get him anywhere but when it got like this, it was the only thing he could do.
"It's been a day Harry! A day and they have nothing!" Ginny sobbed, screaming as Harry tried to calm her down. Her baby boy was missing and she didn't know why.
"It'll be okay Gin, I'm gonna go into work and see what I can do." Harry assured but Ginny shook her head.
"I need you here with me Harry, the kids are still with your parents and I don't want to be alone." Ginny told him and Harry sighed. He made his way over to her and embraced her.
"Okay, I'll make a call and then we can go look together, okay?" Harry suggested and Ginny nodded her head.
"Okay." She replied so Harry pulled out his phone, briefly admiring his phone wallpaper, and then dialed work.
"Police department." The female answered.
"Hello, its Detective Potter, is Captain Brookes in?" He asked.
"One moment." She said and then Harry was transferred to the Captain.
"Captain Brookes." The gruff voice answered.
"Brookes, its Potter."
"Potter," Brookes sighed. "How are you holding up?"
"Not well," Harry answered. "I-I can't come in today, I gotta be home with my family."
"I didn't expect you to come in today Potter, in fact I was gonna give you a call later. As of now, you're on paid leave until your boy is found."
"Cap-"
"Don't argue with me Potter, I know you want to. And I know you want to come in and help but this is your son. We're gonna do everything in our power to find him but you need to stay out of the way." The captain explained causing Harry to sigh. He was right, he wanted to argue but it was true. He needed to be at home and out of their way.
"I understand." He finally answered. "Just... just keep me informed please."
"Will do Harry, stay positive."
The pair hung up and Harry looked at Ginny. She was still crying slightly but looked at him very hopefully.
"I'm on leave as of today, until Albus is found." Harry disclosed to her and she once again dissolved into a puddle of tears. She made her way over to him and curled up on his side since he was sitting on the bed. He held her tightly and gently stroked her arm.
"I just want my baby back Harry, I want him here." She sobbed, burying her face into his lap.
"I know Gin, I know. I do too." Harry replied. Silence filled the room as Ginny cried out. After a few minutes, she looked up at Harry who looked down at her.
"Do you think he ran away because we threatened to kick him out?" She questioned quietly.
"Oh no I don't think that at all, Ginny. That was over a year ago." Harry told her and she sniffled.
"Then someone had to have taken him!" She burst out. "He couldn't have just wandered too far off. And if he didn't run away, then someone has to have him." Ginny spoke but Harry didn't say anything. He just pondered what she said and she did make a good point. If he didn't want to run away, someone had to have taken him. It was the only thing that made sense.
"Who would have taken him though?" Harry inquired. "There was no one we saw..."
"I feel it Harry, I feel like he was taken but I wouldn't know by who." Ginny disclosed and Harry ran a hand through her hair.
"Okay, okay. We have the Amber Alert out and they're doing everything to find him. We can take a ride and check the stores, I think that's best." Harry told her trying to ease her. Without saying a word, Ginny nodded and sat up. Harry leaned in and kissed her cheek. "Think positive thoughts." He whispered. She got up and walked into their bathroom to get cleaned up. Harry took this time to call his parents, maybe they could keep the kids.
"Harry?" Remus answered the phone.
"Hi dad, how did it go last night?" Harry asked and he heard Remus sigh.
"Not very good. Lily took some time to calm down. James isn't crying but he isn't really talking," Remus explained. "Sirius and I spent most of the night up with them."
"I'm sorry," Harry apologized. "We were gonna come get them later today after checking around but we can come get them now."
"No we have a handle on it, you do what you need to. They're resting now anyway."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes positive, just look for Albus, and let us know if you found anything. We'll see you later."
"Thanks dad, I love you." Harry told him as Ginny reentered the room. She cleaned up her tired face and put her hair in a ponytail.
"We love you back Harry." They hung up the phone and Harry looked at his wife sadly.
"You ready?" He questioned.
"I'm ready."
Harry got up and followed his wife out of their bedroom. Walking down the stairs, Harry noticed their television in the family room was on.
"It is now going on hour twenty and no sign of the newly missing boy Albus Potter. Police speculate foul play however no leads have been found. Police urge everyone to contact them if they spot young Albus Potter." The news anchor announced and a picture of Albus flashed on the screen. Before he could react, Ginny shut of the television.
"Come on," Ginny whispered. "I wanna check the gas station." She told him.
"Baby, I already checked there yesterday, maybe we should check somewhere else." Harry suggested and Ginny turned to him, eyes horribly bloodshot.
"Where else would he go Harry?" Ginny asked. "If it was foul play, where else could we check?"
"Gin, I know you feel it was a kidnapping and it makes sense but we can't rule that out just yet, okay?" Harry clarified. "And even if it was a kidnapping, there's always a possibility that he got away and he's hiding somewhere." Harry stated.
"Maybe we can get the security videos or something Harry, maybe we can see him wander off or maybe they caught him being taken." Ginny pointed out and Harry sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"Fine, we can check there again, then I wanted to check the other places." Harry asserted. Ginny only nodded and made her way over to the door to which Harry followed. They silently got in the car and made their way back to the gas station.
As they made their way there, Sirius and Remus started to cook some lunch for their grandchild. As of then, the television was off limits along with any smart phones. They were baking some chicken as the kids sat wordlessly at the table. Lily had finally stopped crying but like her brother, she was closed off.
"You two hungry? Lunch is almost ready." Sirius questioned and the kids only shrugged. He sighed and turned to Remus who was making some lemonade. What do we do? Sirius mouthed and Remus leaned in close.
"Give them time, it's all too new." Remus whispered.
"I know but we need to get them to talk," Sirius whispered back. "They're my grandbabies, I need them to be okay."
"We need Albus to be okay," Remus said. "We need them all to be okay."
"I know, I know," Sirius took a deep breath. "We need to find him soon."
"We will." Remus replied and then took out the chicken. Along with placing some steamed vegetables on the plate, they put the chicken on the plate and brought them to the kids. Much to the grandparent's surprise, they started to eat their food.
"Is it good?" Sirius asked and they nodded. Sirius nodded and started eating his food. As the silence was beginning to be too much, James stopped eating and looked at his grandparents.
"I know you adopted dad when he was a little over one but was he ever uncomfortable with your lifestyle?" James questioned and they raised an eyebrow.
"Lifestyle?" Remus asked.
"Are you asking if he was uncomfortable with us being gay?" Sirius asked and James nodded. He looked at Remus briefly before turning his attention back to James. "No I don't believe he was. If he was, he never really said anything."
"Why are you asking James? Are you uncomfortable?" Remus asked and Lily's eyes widened as did James who shook his head.
"No, not at all poppop," James rushed out. "I... I was just wondering." James explained. Remus and Sirius shared a look once more before looking back at James.
"Is something you want to share with us?" Remus asked but James shook his head and continued eating again.
"It's not something we wanna share yet," Lily spoke up. "But don't tell mum or dad, okay?" Lily begged and they nodded.
"Okay we won't. You know you can talk to us about anything, right?"
"Yeah we know poppy," Lily nodded. "Thank you."
"Of course, now eat up." Sirius told her and they nodded.
They didn't want to share it, but they were really worried that their brother wasn't taken, just hiding because of who he was.
