Chapter Thirteen

"Arrowpaw!" Darkpaw cried, walking towards the broad-shouldered tom. "How are you? Did anything with that red warrior happen?"

"Yes..." he mumbled. "We shouldn't talk to each other. We're from different clans." What? But...

"It's a gathering!" Darkpaw protested, saying the first thing that entered her mind. Where is he going with this? "Of cou-"

"Coralstar told me that I've grown too attached to you," he explained wearily. Darkpaw drew in a gasp. "We can't talk anymore, not where others can see us." He lowered his voice. "But we can where other's won't see us." Darkpaw's heart skipped a beat.

"What do y-"

"The border you have with RiverClan. We can meet there every quarter-moon." Darkpaw nodded slowly, excitement flooding through her body.

"Okay. I'll see you there." Arrowpaw padded away to a group of RiverClan cats. Yes! I'll be there, Arrowpaw, don't worry!

"Orangepaw!" Darkpaw yowled, rushing over to her. "Who's this?" Orangepaw was talking to a white warrior.

"This is Comfreytail, from WindClan." Orangepaw answered.

"Hey," Comfreytail murmured cheerfully. "You're Darkpaw, right?" Darkpaw nodded self-consciously. "Oh. I like your name. The leaders are starting!"

"SkyClan welcomes Featherpaw as a warrior. He is now Featherheart." The ShadowClan cats remained silent as the other clans cheered. He's the least deserving cat of a warrior name, Darkpaw thought scornfully. Hmmph. "We have lost an elder, Cliffclaw." Treestar raised his muzzle.

"ShadowClan has a new elder, Badgerleap. And," he paused, "Fernstar died." Darkpaw wasn't too surprised at the silence and few sad murmurs. "I am now Treestar. Shadeflight is a new medicine cat of ours."

"Shadeflight?" several cats spat. Darkpaw winced. Please just let it go! Shadeflight couldn't control his name, Fernstar gave it to him! Not  Tallmeadow!

"He's evil!" Darkpaw caught Shadeflight's injured gaze.

"Shadeflight is dead!"

"He's back?!"

"No. Our new medicine cat shares his name. Fernstar chose it. And our deputy is Yowltail." He looked to Coralstar.

"RiverClan has a new kit, Ripplekkit. The red warrior was a cat from StarClan that talked to Arrowpaw. And Half Moon was an ancient cat, correct?" Treestar nodded.

"Yes, that's right. We'll tell you if she comes again." Should we be telling everyone everything we know? ShadowClan is weak; if we accidentally reveal a weakness, we won't be able to defend ourselves. Treestar, please, be careful!

"We spotted a fox in our territory, but we chased it off. Though it may have gone onto SkyClan territory- we chased it off on the border." Strikestar sighed. "Lightningpaw has been injured, but is fine now."

"WindClan is well. We found a weasel, but chased it away. An apprentice was severely injured." Quickstar mewed. Tallmeadow caterwauled.

"We must do something about StarClan!" she yowled loudly, baring her teeth in challenge. "Snarlfang is right; they're against us!  And Shadeflight has news!" Shadeflight drew himself up.

"I do. It's a prophecy." The cats drew in their breaths. Should we really tell them? Shadeflight, please be doing the right thing... "Only shadows can save you now. Destruction is coming. The lake will die." Shadeflight paused. "And Tree payed Darkpaw a visit." That's too much information! Stop it! She flicked her tail, trying to get his attention but failing. "He said that there is an apprentice that could destroy the clans. We must find this apprentice..." Shadeflight's eyes darkened. "And..." He hesitated, a shiver running down his spine. "And kill them."

Well, that was unlike Shadeflight, wasn't it? Who do you think the apprentice is? Darkpaw will focus more on the prophecy and what Tree said now, so please keep reading! I'm sorry about the shortness of this chapter, but I thought that this was a good ending for it.
