Prologue

A small Gastly flew towards a dark forest. He ignored the jabs and taunts that were thrown at him and flew into a thornbush. A group of Pokémon turned to stare as he entered.

"It happened again," a Misdreavus commented.

"Do you mean what I think you mean?" the Gastly asked.

"The eclipse scared her," the Misdreavus said.

"She won't stop crying," a Duskull said. "She's bound to alert the Squad."

At the mention of the mini police force, a Litwick began to sniffle.

"I don't want to go to jail," she said through sniffles.

A Shuppet nuzzled against her. "No one's taking you to jail. They'll have to get through me first!"

The Litwick giggled. "My hero."

The Duskull rolled his eye. "Ignoring the lovers-"

"HEY!"

"-she's back here."

The ghosts made their way through the tangle of thorns. There was a purple light ahead, and a small Phantump was revealed. A Pumpkaboo was by her side.

"Look, the eclipse is gone and Akseli and the others are here," he sighed. The Phantump looked up with watery eyes.

"A-are you sure it's gone?" she asked timidly.

"Yes, it's gone. And remember, it's supposed to be back in 100 years."

The Phantump sniffled. "Promise?"

"I promise."

She sighed with relief. The Duskull gave the Gastly a look.

"Are you sure you can promise that?"

The Gastly glared. "Would you rather this or we get arrested?"

The Duskull sighed. "Fair. Where were they last sighted anyway?"

A Raichu entered a fancy looking office, trembling. The chair swiveled around, revealing a rough-looking Incineroar. He leaned forward, a menacing grin on his face.

"So, you've returned. Tell me, Gage. What did you find?"

The Raichu gulped before responding. "We followed them all the way to the Dark Forest, but we lost them there."

"Curses!" The Incineroar slammed his fists down violently. "We were so close!"

"Master Dorian..."

The Incineroar grabbed Gage by the throat and pinned him against the wall. The electric mouse struggled, but the Incineroar's grip was tight.

"Don't, under any circumstances, call me by that slander ever again," he breathed. There was a picture of a Meganium on the desk. He grabbed it and shoved it into his face.

"Remember her? Jenelle was a great member. Loyal, cunning, and not to bad to look at either."

Gage dared not to move. He had heard this story before.

"She was perfect. But she found an injured Gengar named Keone. The two fell for each other. But, as rules around here go, allying with ghosts is treason."

He gave Gage a look that resembled both glare and glance. "You know the punishment for treason, don't you?"

The Raichu was almost frozen in his place on the wall. The Incineroar dropped the mouse and turned his back to him as he continued.

"Jenelle was giving her sentence and exiled. As for Keone, he was declared as a threat to humanity and wanted as a criminal. Jenelle helped him hide.

"One of our patrols, led by Haydar the Chesnaught, eventually stumbled across their hideout. They stormed the place, and in the process, killed Jenelle. Keone, seeing his beloved dead, went on a rampage. All except Haydar were killed. My son was killed in that battle."

Gage let out a small squeak of surprise as Dorion's flame belt flared, filling the room with intense heat. The Incineroar turned to face him, his fist clenched.

"I have never forgotten about that. And I vow to get my revenge. So, get out there and find them!"

Gage scrambled away to avoid the powerful Flamethrower that was fired promptly after. The Raichu smirked as he walked down the long corridor.

"Revenge is what you want, eh? We ain't called the Spectral Squad for nothin'."

I wrote this while looking for inspiration for ASI. Enjoy.
