Chapter 5: Fireworks

This autumn day was brimming with anticipation. The glorious sun was high up in the ocean-blue sky and fortunately there wasn't a single sight of a grey cloud. Instead, up in the sky were fluffy and fat white clouds creating different shapes for the world to admire their brilliance. After all the excruciating waiting, the day had arrived when the senior-students at the Institute were jumping out of bed to get ready for their trip.

However, one person hadn't woken up this fine day with a very pleasant start. A haunting nightmare from his past drowned Klaus in darkness that he prayed to escape all his life.

He laid motionless in bed, unable to move or make a sound about the pain his own memories were cutting into his raw skin. His shirt was drenched in the proof of his rough night, his hair was damp and he felt a burn in his throat and gut.

With a hard jolt. "No!" Klaus shot out of bed in his dark room.

A sliver of light peeked out from behind the curtains and it pierced through Klaus's exhausted eyes. This occurrence wasn't strange or out of the ordinary, Klaus always woke up from the same nightmare ever since he could remember.

Klaus threw off the duvet from his aching body, that wasn't rested at all. His bones, muscles weighed him down as if he had fought a battle all night and now he was bed-ridden. Klaus pushed through the sharp throbbing agony in his chest and got out of bed making his way to the bathroom.

He flicked the light on and it blared in his eyes so he was unable to open them. Klaus went straight to the sink, turned the handle to the coldest temperature and splashed handfuls of icy-cold water on his burning face. Klaus combed his wet fingers through his damp hair raking it all back, he looked up at his reflection, and he saw fear that he recognized really well.

Klaus straightened to his height when a harsh face appeared behind him. A man with amber eyes, an expression twisted with rage, a smile that was full of hatred and evil. Klaus didn't flinch or react because whenever his father came to him, Klaus always took the punishment without resisting. Why would he fight back when he knew that he was the cause of his mother's death?

He was reason Gabriel had to betray their father and fight for the alpha position when he was still kid himself. Klaus also knew that he was the cause for Hunter's rampage, which had forced his brother to suppress his wolf for life. Klaus understood that he lived with the burden that he took Viola and Vincent's mother away before they could barely get to know her. And when Klaus remembered that he was the cause behind the pack's loss too, his heart ripped into pieces after he tried to put it back together.

"Mom," he whispered the foreign word.

Klaus was never able to use that word in his life. It seemed that he wasn't blessed to experience when someone loved unconditionally. The only thing Klaus experienced was his father's ruthless hate towards the son who took his mate away just by being born.

Klaus irritably stripped out of his damp shirt and pants. He turned the shower on high and got under the cascade of harsh water, that felt as sharp as needles. He tried his hardest to wash the pain off himself, but what would he do with the ache inside his body. Klaus didn't know how to forget the pain that his past caused him, he was lost in this harsh storm unable to get out or escape its wrath.

Klaus slammed his hand over the handle which shut the water off. It took him a long moment for him to relax. Klaus gathered his thoughts and reminded himself that his father couldn't hurt him if he didn't allow it. Klaus repeated his every rule like a mantra to forget this pain again. Cutting through his trauma that he hadn't worked out really well, Klaus got ready for the trip.

He put on a simple white shirt, a pair of rugged blueish-white jeans and his leather boots. He pulled out a leather jacket out of his other cupboard because the sun may be out but the air was definitely cold. He slipped on the layer of leather that had fitted to his broad shoulders. Klaus didn't bother much with his hair, because after his shower his hair would naturally sit raked back away from his eyes.

With a final glance in the mirror, he approved of his choice. Klaus put his hands in his pockets when he remembered King. Yesterday, King had worn a leather jacket too and it never looked better on anyone. King's muscular built stretched the leather, his simple shirt hadn't concealed the tattoos inked onto his collarbones, neck and hands. The entire time during the tour Klaus had stolen glimpses of those tattoos and the angel wings on King's nape was the one that mesmerized Klaus the most. It was such an unlikely choice for someone who was known for his devilish character. Klaus lost a long moment thinking about King, and he wondered if King would join them today too. Sabrina had invited him, but Klaus doubted that King would have any interest at a dinosaur museum.

Klaus let his urge to text King go. He grabbed his wallet, phone and keys before he left his bedroom to the rowdy kitchen downstairs. His family was as usual having breakfast that Hailey had prepared. Vincent, Viola, Hunter and Gabriel had gathered around the round table, eating sandwiches and drinking coffee to start their day ahead.

"Good morning," Sabrina appeared behind Klaus.

Klaus turned around surprised. "Oh, good morning," he mumbled although it definitely wasn't when he woke up.

Sabrina frowned and looked at Klaus with her inquisitive green eyes. "What's wrong?" she asked softly.

Klaus was taken aback that Sabrina could tell his mood was off so fast. "Nothing-"

"Was it a nightmare again?" she asked because she had found Klaus a few times awake at night because of his horrid dreams.

Klaus didn't answer, he didn't need to because she could feel it from his lowered gaze. "Just forget about it," he sighed. "I have."

Sabrina wrapped her arms around him, her light flowery perfume washed over Klaus reminding him of spring and maybe better days. "I'm right here if you want to talk," she whispered.

Klaus lazed in her arms. "Thanks, but I'm fine, really," he smiled as he pulled back.

Sabrina smiled at him too. "Okay," she patted his cheek before she joined Gabriel's side at the table.

Klaus walked into the kitchen and joined Hailey near the toaster. "Need help?" he offered.

"Nope, I got it," she said as she dusted off her hands. "Yours' is without tomatoes and on the counter right over there." She pointed behind her.

He stayed beside Hailey. "Thank you," he said, except Klaus knew he couldn't stomach food right now, but he didn't want to be rude. He forced the sandwich down and cup of coffee as much as he could.

Viola got out of her seat to put her plate in the sink near Klaus and Hailey had moved to sit with Hunter. "You ready to have some fun today?" she beamed a smile at him as she washed her plate and the other dishes.

Klaus hated that his mood was off but he tried his hardest to get it back up, and his family was where he'd start. "Yeah," he told his sister. "I've been excited all month."

Viola chuckled. "Me too," she added. "I love dinosaurs."

"Who doesn't," added Klaus.

Viola slightly frowned as she put her plate in the dish-rack. Her green eyes looked at Klaus for a long moment as if she could read his face. Viola could with anyone because she just had that skill to see through anyone's deception, especially her brothers. "You had a dream again, didn't you?" she stated more than asked.

"I don't want to talk about it," Klaus whispered as he watched his busy family around the table.

Viola's kind eyes turned cold. "I fucking hate what that bastard did to you," she seethed forebodingly. Without any warning, the air from her feral wolf seeped out and blasted through the room. The entire crowd silenced and they eyed their sister who was about to break the glass in her hand.

"Viola," Gabriel's deep voice warned behind them.

"I'm sorry, Gabriel," Klaus said before he turned towards Viola. "Calm down," he whispered fretfully. She didn't calm down at all. Abruptly, Viola broke the mug in her hand. The shards of glass pierced her hand.

Everyone at the table rushed to her side.

"What is wrong with you?" Klaus grabbed his sister's hand and put it under rushing cold water.

Viola drew in a long breath. "Okay, I'm calm now," she exhaled.

Hunter quickly took out the first-aid from the top drawer. Klaus grabbed the cotton and antiseptic spray from his brother and quickly cleaned his sister's bloody hand that two deep cuts.

"Want to tell me what the fuck that was about?" Gabriel's voice boomed angrily.

Viola didn't look at her oldest brother's infamous glare. She only watched Klaus with concern in her eyes. "Nothing," she mumbled. "It was an accident."

"You broke a mug by accident," Hunter derided as he bandaged her wound with Klaus.

Viola clenched her jaw and Klaus saw her swallow the urge to tell what truly happened. "It was already broken," she lied again. "I only put a little pressure and it exploded." she irritably pulled her hand away from Hunter and Klaus.

Vincent came forward and grabbed his sister's stubborn hand. "Don't do that again," he warned strictly. He patted her shoulder and went back to the table knowing Viola would be alright.

Hunter put the box away and returned to his seat with Hailey and Sabrina, but Gabriel stayed in front of his youngest siblings. His glowering glare looked at Viola and then at Klaus. Gabriel didn't say anything because he didn't need to, because from his glare alone, Klaus knew that Gabriel wanted to know the truth right-fucking-now.

"It's not important, Gabriel," said Klaus. Viola looked at Klaus confused, Klaus secretly held her hand to stop her from opening her mouth. "Nothing happened. The mug broke by accident."

Gabriel loomed over his baby brother and it was like he wasn't convinced. "Fine," he said sternly. "Be careful next time."

"Yes," said Klaus. "It won't happen again." Klaus glared at Viola.

Viola bottled her annoyance. "Yeah, I'm sorry too," she added.

Gabriel went back to his seat and only then Klaus released a breath of relief. That was close, otherwise the whole family would've been upset because of him. Klaus washed his dishes and left the kitchen before anyone else because he didn't want to keep lying to them. He made his way towards the Institute where an orange school bus had arrived.

As Klaus neared, he heard familiar voices gathered on the sidewalk. The typical group that were always eager for anything had arrived early. Leo, Dante, Levi, his twin brother Jake and John were gathered in a circle sharing their excitement for the trip. The boys were all Klaus's height and it had only been a few years ago that they came to Centauri Institute as freshman. Klaus had seen them grow up right in front of him and they grew into fine young men.

"Where are your jackets?" asked Klaus as he closed in on them and saw that all the boys were only in t-shirts and jeans.

Leo looked up first with his kind hazel eyes. "We loaded our stuff in the bus already," he answered chirpily.

Jake who had a baseball cap covering his red hair, added; "Our bags and jackets are reserving our seats for us."

"You guys weren't supposed to go in the bus without supervision," drilled Klaus. "Hold on, how'd you even get inside?"

"The driver left it unlocked when he went to the washroom," said Dante. He shared a knowing grin with his buddies.

Klaus shook his head. "That's nothing to be proud of," he scolded, but he knew that these boys weren't going to listen to anyone anyways, so there wasn't any need to bother. Klaus looked at his watch that pointed at eight o'clock sharp. "You guys are awfully early," he said.

"We were too excited at our own houses alone," said Leo. "So, we all decided to meet here early."

Klaus smiled at them. "It's good you came," he mumbled to himself.

"Okay, it's ready," announced John. He had been fiddling with a camera for the longest time. Abruptly, he held up the open lens towards his friends. "I'm going to take a picture-"

"Hold on!" Leo panicked.

"Wait, I'm not ready," exclaimed Jake.

"Er- I don't like taking photos," Dante moved back.

"Me either," added Levi who was tucked into a black hoodie with black sunglasses.

"Three, two, one-" John began the countdown- "say cheese!" Leo grabbed Dante and Jake grabbed his gloomy brother before John took the shot. "Klaus, get in," John urged.

"Huh?" Klaus was bewildered by the sudden invite.

Dante and Levi grabbed their shy teacher and pulled him in the middle of the group. Klaus automatically smiled because there was no need to force anything. He genuinely loved these boys with all his heart, and it appeared that all it took for Klaus was to remember the good in his students to forget the evil in his father.

John took another photo and then Klaus helped them take one with John in the group too. Hailey, Sabrina and Viola had arrived and John quickly took photos with all of them. More and more students arrived and the picture just got that much bigger. At the end of it, all the seniors had arrived and they didn't know how to take the last photo without John, thankfully the bus driver had arrived and he offered to take the last photo. A class photo was taken with the entire group swarmed around Klaus and finally his mood had brightened.

"Thank you," John said to the bus driver who got up on the bus to start the vehicle.

Klaus came to the front of fifty-eight students who were growing more eager to get going. "Good morning everyone," began Klaus. "I know you're all excited and eager to go. But I need to tell you before we leave, that I need you all on your best behaviour. I don't want any complaints from anyone about the noise, remember that there will be others in the museum with us, so we don't want to disturb their trip."

"Yes, sir!" They shouted back.

Klaus smiled at them in approval.

Sabrina came up beside him. "Now that Klaus has scolded all of you into shape," the kids laughed. "Let's go have some fun!"

The group broke out in cheers and one-by-one the students streamed into the bus. Orderly, the kids sat with their friends on the seat, some of the girls sat in pairs of three and Klaus could see the boisterous group with Leo and his friends at the back of the bus; their voices could be heard at the front. Sabrina, Hailey and Viola were going in one car together and Klaus was riding the bus with the students.

Klaus turned the bus driver who had slipped on his sunglasses. "I will just take the attendance and then we can head off," he said.

"We should head out before the traffic hits," the driver warned.

"Of course, just give me a moment," Klaus turned to the students who were blabbering away. "I'm going to take the attendance so I need all of you to quiet down!" he yelled over their voices that quickly hushed. Klaus spilled out his cellphone and read the list of names, and the students yelled back when they heard their names.

"Is everything ready?" Sabrina asked from outside the bus.

"Everyone is here," Klaus told her. "You guys drive on ahead. We're leaving now too."

"Got it," said Sabrina. She pulled off her cat-eye sunglasses from her head and slipped them over her eyes. She waved at Klaus and the students before she got in the van with Viola driving and Hailey beside her.

The bus drove over long highways and through city traffic, and the entire time the bus didn't have one quiet moment. The energy level in the students were off the charts this morning and Klaus could understand why since this trip was pretty exciting since they were going to the American Museum of Natural History.

In exactly forty-five minutes the bus had stopped in front of the massive museum that was a towering height, the blue skies contrasted against the white stone of the monumental building and strong pillars holding the structure. The bus parked itself at the front entrance and Klaus got out of the bus first. After him all the kids followed and pooled in front of him. The sun beamed down on all of them and it was good because Klaus could see all his students.

The bus driver looked at Klaus. "I will pick you up at three o'clock," he said.

"Yes, thank you," confirmed Klaus.

The bus drove off leaving them in front of the museum entrance. Viola, Sabrina and Hailey had arrived too after they parked their car.

"Should we head inside?" asked Hailey as she bounced in excitement that matched all the students.

"I'm so excited," Viola clapped her hands and beamed a wide smile. Klaus was glad that her mood had improved back to normal bubbly self.

Hailey gathered the students into a couple of lines telling them to stick together and if they're in trouble or need anything that they come straight to Klaus, Sabrina, Viola or her. The students complied and at that point were ready to go inside already.

Just as they were leaving, Sabrina stopped them. "Hold on," she said.

"What happened now?" asked Viola who was as impatient as the kids.

Klaus looked on the road where Sabrina's eyes were glued and everyone else's by now. A black Lamborghini cut through the street and arrived at the front near them. The passenger side of the door opened and a tall, bulky figure climbed out from the low, expensive car.

Klaus stared at King in awe, but it wasn't him alone, everyone on the street was watching too. King had appeared dressed in a clean dark-blue suit and crisp white shirt, that had a few buttons open at the top. The sun shined over his polished appearance, his dark hair glistened and the lines of his masculine face were sharp and highlighted by the golden light. King closed the door of his car, then buttoned his suit's jacket, only after his car drove off with great speed without him.

"Glad you could make it," Sabrina greeted him first.

King's eyes tracked through the crowd, those electric blue eyes located Klaus between the kids. "Thanks for inviting me," he said to Sabrina or Klaus since he was only looking at Klaus.

"Come on, let's get this show on the road," announced Viola.

Viola and Hailey took the kids inside and Klaus followed behind them. He was aware that King was beside Sabrina as they climbed the stairs towards the museum, that was bustling with civilians and tourists.

The massive doors opened up and the entire Centauri pack swarmed at the front gaping at the massive entrance, the sky-high ceilings that showcased the dinosaur bones right away. All the students were ready to explore and honestly so was Klaus.

King appeared beside Klaus with a bright grin on his face. "You look excited," he remarked.

"Is it obvious?" Klaus asked.

King laughed softly. "Very," he replied.

"Let the tour begin," Viola ushered the students into the massive building.

All of them moved together through the other tourists, that were busy looking at the old dinosaur exhibits too. Klaus was just as enthusiastic as everyone else as he looked at everything and anything, even in this massive place, the floor looked extravagant. The students moved in groups with their friends and pointed at all the animal exhibits and statutes. Klaus was sure that King probably got bored, but he was wrong, instead he seemed content near Klaus's side and viewing the large bones of scary predators, that were still fearsome although they were just bones.

"We should go to the gift shop at the end," suggested Hailey as she clicked pictures of the students standing under the enormous T-rex head and tiny arms.

"We will once we get through the whole museum," said Sabrina.

The students moved around the first hall and then they all entered the darker hall where the exhibit of Biodiversity presented a vivid portrait of the abundance of life on Earth. The kids were awed by the Siberian tigers dangerously posing on their podium. Animals were lined up and put on display, either it was bones or the skin was on the animal making them appear vividly real. Some of the students started to freak out near the lizards.

"Keep it down!" schooled Klaus. He hurried to calm them down and drag them away embarrassingly. Klaus looked at the tourists gaping the rowdy kids. "Sorry," he smiled charmingly and pulled Leo and his friends away.

"My bad," Leo calmed down. "That lizard freaked me out."

Jake and John were laughing their ass off. "You're so lame," teased Jake.

Leo grabbed his friends and they continued onto the rainforest area, but that scared them out too when they spotted snakes everywhere.

"That's it," Klaus groaned. "We're going to get kicked out." Klaus moved but King held his arm back. King followed the boys and returned after he whispered something to them. Immediately, Leo and his friends calmed down and they quietly went on the tour.

"What'd you say to them?" asked Klaus because those boys never listened to anyone, let alone a stranger.

"Nothing important," he said idly. "Should we continue?"

Klaus stared at King suspiciously as they continued down the dark halls. More and more people gathered near the mummies exhibition. It was a large group and Klaus needed to gather the kids, so they wouldn't get separated, but the crowd grew and Klaus lost Leo and the boys.

Viola appeared beside them. "I got it, Klaus," she ran past them into the crowd and gathered the kids again. Klaus waved at Viola who had confirmed she found the kids.

Klaus moved off to the side by the crowd coming through them, when suddenly, a hand grabbed his own. King had pulled Klaus out of the way onto his side and they stood together near the dead mummy.

"Thanks," he mumbled.

King smiled. "No problem," he said. King had made sure that Klaus was watched after. He helped Klaus whenever he could, and it seemed as if King was more interested in Klaus's actions than the fascinating exhibitions around them.

They left the mummies and entered the giant sequoia tree exhibit. All the kids and teachers gaped at the fourteen-hundred-year-old giant tree trunk, that had actually stood over three-hundred feet tall. Off they went to the second floor after the tree was examined.

Klaus was glad to see everyone enjoying themselves, Hailey and Viola were busy keeping the kids together and Sabrina was beside King now. They entered the Akeley Hall of African Mammals, which had a massive display of the largest land-living animal.

"Elephants!" All of the students rushed inside to stand with the massive creature.

Klaus had only turned his head when he found King helping a few kids take a picture near the elephants. Klaus laughed as King took the shot on the phone and gave it back to the excited girls. King promptly returned to Klaus's side after he was used by everyone.

"Good job," Klaus patted King's shoulder. "It's nice to help out, isn't it?"

King rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. "It's not funny," he said.

Klaus laughed again. They both moved down the other glass displays that showed other animals. Klaus had taken pictures too and King was in every one of them, even though he resisted and Klaus worried if he annoyed him, but King seemed fine and gladly took the pictures with him. From the corner of his eye, Klaus noticed Hailey, Sabrina and Viola snickering on the side as they watched Klaus.

"What?" Klaus asked them.

"Oh, nothing," said Hailey.

Klaus looked at his sister. "What are you laughing about?" he asked, but before he could get an answer, King called out for him. Klaus left his family and went to King without finding out what the girls were laughing about.

Klaus had left the mammals and entered the Harriet and Robert Heilbrunn Cosmic Pathway. It was a three hundred and sixty-foot-long path, that exhibited that one's stride was measured in millions of years.

The students, Klaus and King and the girls got lost in studying the artifacts along the pathway. A massive meteorite that dated from the birth of Earth's solar system was revealed at the end too. All of them were in daze as they saw the samples of the oldest rock formation on Earth; a trilobite that looked like an alien; and the fossilized tooth of an enormous carnivore dinosaur. On the third floor, they saw the Rapa Nui's famous rows of moai, which were towering figures of deified ancestors that were carved from volcanic tuff rock.

Klaus, King and the students all moved up to the massive fourth floor where they saw the museum's dinosaur mummy, which a fossilized imprint of the carcass of a duck-billed dinosaur was.

"One of the most complete pieces of Mesozoic dinosaur ever found, this fossil represents one of the greatest discoveries in the history of paleontology," Leo read aloud for all of them to hear.

"Wow," awed Jake.

"More like creepy," said Levi who stared at the mummy.

King and Klaus stared at the mummy. "It is creepy, kind of feels alive," King mumbled and Klaus agreed.

Their group moved to the Glen Rose Trackway, which had artifacts dated back to one hundred and seven-million-year-old series of fossilized dinosaur footprints. They took quick pictures of the tall dinosaurs that stood towering over the small humans.

Mid-day had arrived and Klaus called all of the students back. "We still have time before our planetarium show," he said to everyone. "We should head down for lunch and then we'll head to the theatre."

Klaus made sure everyone had safely made it outside to the restaurant near the museum. He knew that they wouldn't fit inside the restaurant, so the waitress guided them outside to the circle tables with the large red umbrellas over them. The students took their seats and were eager to get their bellies full with some hot Italian food.

"I'm going to order pizza for you, is that fine?" Klaus asked them.

The students agreed and sat patiently as the teachers ordered a bunch of food for them. Sabrina ordered fried chicken, French fries and pancakes too. She didn't care about the price, she just wanted the kids to enjoy themselves and eat some good food. Hailey was quick to order dessert at the end too and Viola got the five adults darkly-roasted coffee after being on their feet for hours.

A few waitresses arrived with large trays off food, they quickly distributed it to all the hungry faces that were impressed by the food selection. Sabrina made sure that the kids were satisfied and then she joined the seat beside Hailey. Klaus did a circle around all the students and made sure they were all comfortable. Only after, he took the empty seat next to King who was patiently waiting to eat with Klaus.

No matter what his mood, Klaus always loved thinly-crusted pizza that was cooked to perfection, he pulled a slice away and the mozzarella cheese stretched to a great length making him even more hungry.

"Here," Klaus put the slice on King's plate first.

"Oh, thanks," said King.

Klaus smiled and started to give out the slices to his family too. "Let me know if you want more," he said before he grabbed his own slice and started to devour it.

"I think the trip was successful," said Viola as she ate with her left hand since her right was injured.

"Me too," said Hailey.

"I can't wait to see the space movie," added Sabrina...

Klaus didn't hear what Hailey said back to Sabrina because his eyes stayed on Viola's hand. The white bandage reminded Klaus of the morning and he didn't particularly like the pit that sank in his gut. He grabbed another slice and ate trying to distract himself again. Suddenly, a hand skimmed his knee. He looked to his side and King was staring at Klaus darkly.

"You okay?" he whispered.

Klaus titled his head. "I'm fine," he said after a moment. "Do you want more pizza?"

"No," he answered as he pulled his hand away.

They enjoyed the rest of the pizza and the waitress came to ask them for dessert. Klaus was fast to order them all ice-cream sundaes, which made them all very happy. The fun dessert came and everyone got busy digging into the swirly mountain of thick vanilla cream and chocolate syrup drizzled on top.

"King, don't you want any?" Sabrina asked.

"I'm not fond of sweets," he answered.

Klaus looked at his delicious bowl of goodness and wondered how anyone would deny this treat. He looked at King surprised. "Are you sure?" he asked. Klaus pushed his bowl resting it between them. "It tastes really good-" Klaus scooped a bite and teased it in front of King, but the moment King reach down for the sweet offer, Klaus put the spoon in his own mouth.

King raised a brow. "Teasing me is not a good idea," his deep voice darkened like his eyes.

Klaus froze and regretted his actions right away. "Er- I wasn't teasing," he defended himself in a lame attempt. "I was just being nice and offering."

King eyes lowered to Klaus's lips. "Mm-hmm," he grabbed the spoon from Klaus's hand and took a bite of the ice-cream himself. King's eyes sparkled in surprise that the ice-cream was actually good.

"It doesn't look like you're getting that spoon back, Klaus," teased Viola.

Klaus stared at King enjoy his ice-cream sundae. "I could order you one," Klaus chuckled.

King shook his head. "No, I think it's just this one that tastes good," he bemused. Klaus simply grabbed another spoon and ate with King.

After lunch, all the students sat in the dark theatre of the world's most advanced planetarium projection system. They were ready to see the immersive apparitions of distant worlds and ground-breaking space missions. All the kids, even the adults were jumping in their seats ready to be sucked into the worlds beyond Earth. After the wild ride, that felt like eternity, but was only twenty-five minutes, the entire Centauri pack pooled out of the theatre.

"That was so awesome," all the students shared their thoughts and moved down the hall.

"Did you see how close we were to the moon!" shouted another student.

"I want to see it again," they all agreed.

Klaus got in front of his students. "Let's head to the gift shop," announced Klaus and he lead them towards the massive gift shop.

The doors opened to a whole new world of dinosaurs, animals, space and nature merchandise. Their jaws dropped as they entered through the entrance and rushed through the crowd inside the store. All the kids looked at Klaus to get permission to be let loose to their hearts content.

"Don't break anything-" but before Klaus could finish the kids were already gone to pick up souvenirs.

"I want to buy everyone a dinosaur," said Sabrina. "Do you think they'll like it?" Hailey, Viola, Klaus and King looked at each other and contemplated for a moment.

"I think we should," Viola grinned as she came up with a plan in her head.

Klaus moved from the dinosaur section where most of the rush was and went straight towards the space sector. He surveyed through the shelves of books and space-themed mugs and racks of stars and planet shirts.

"What are you looking for?" King appeared beside him.

"I wanted something from the space show," he shared openly.

Klaus moved around the counter when his eyes landed on the far corner shelf. Klaus's eyes lit up like Christmas when he found what he wanted from this trip. Klaus quickly rushed over and grabbed the first box of a Moon globe-lamp; it glowed at night and was the perfect replica of the Earth's moon from the show.

"Do you want it?" King asked and Klaus quickly nodded without any hesitation. King suddenly grabbed the box from Klaus's hands. "It seems I can't deny you anything either," he alleged and then walked towards the cashier who was wearing some of the merchandise herself.

"You didn't have to do that," Klaus said after King returned with the box wrapped in a white dinosaur bag.

King smiled warmly. "I want you to remember this trip when you look at the lamp, but I have a more selfish reason too... I want you to remember me."

Klaus's heart skipped a beat. "I already remember you," he whispered softly. "You are kind of hard to forget."

King grinned. "Come on," he said. "I have one more surprise for you."

"What?" asked Klaus. King didn't answer but his immense blue eyes told Klaus it was going to be big.

After the kids did their shopping and the teachers had their fill. The end of the tour had arrived. It was exactly at three o'clock that they gathered outside where the bus had punctually arrived too. All the students shared their thoughts of their experience and that they were sad that it had ended so soon.

The bus driver opened the doors and Klaus waved the polite man for being on time. "Let's load up the bus," said Klaus.

"Hold on," said King stopping everyone in their tracks. "I have a surprise." King announced. They all looked at him. "There's an amusement park," he said and all the students instantly beamed. "Actually, you passed it on your way here. I arranged for all of you to see the Autumn Festival fireworks show for your graduation gift."

"Damn, that sounds awesome!" said Leo from the crowd. "Can we go?" Leo and all the students looked at Klaus yearningly.

Klaus hesitated. "I don't know," he looked at King doubtfully.

"Come on, let's have some more fun, Klaus," King persuasively whispered. "There's nothing to be scared of when I'm with you."

Klaus noticed that he had no voice against King. "Er- what do you think, guys?" He looked back at Sabrina, Viola and Hailey, but the girls were already talking to the bus driver where their next destination was from here. "I guess we're going," he smiled.

Sabrina joined them. "King, why don't you take the car and we'll follow you on the bus," she instructed.

King grabbed the keys from her and moved towards the car.

"Klaus will join you too," said Sabrina. King froze in his tracks and stared at Klaus. "Go on, Klaus," Sabrina nudged him by her shoulder and she laughed as she walked into the rowdy bus. Klaus hid his embarrassment and shyly got into the car with King on the driver's side.

A few minutes had passed as King drove down the highways but Klaus's blush still hadn't disappeared along with his humiliation. Sabrina, Hailey and Viola were clear as glass with their intentions, that weren't sneaky at all.

"You don't have to worry," said King.

"Huh," Klaus blinked his daze away and looked at King. "Worry about what?"

"The kids," answered King. "Everyone will be fine."

"Oh, I'm not worried about that," he said. "You arranged this trip, so I know everyone should have quite a good time."

King smirked. "As long as you have a good time too," he looked at Klaus sweetly.

"You don't seem the amusement park type," said Klaus. "What made you want to take all of us there."

King's gaze stayed on the road, but Klaus still felt their power inside his body. "I actually went to the amusement park a few times as a kid," he shared. "I had a good time at a resort with Bone a few years ago too."

"Bone?" enquired Klaus.

"My butler," replied King. "I even took Trez and his brother once too."

"Trez... Luciano?" asked Klaus. Trez Luciano owned the infamous Underworld nightclub that hosted both humans and wolf-shifters.

King chuckled. "The one and only."

"I didn't know you were friends," said Klaus.

"Not many do," responded King as he picked up speed again on the highway exiting on the sloped bridge to enter the last street towards the amusement park.

"Well, thank you for bringing the students," said Klaus. "They won't forget this trip."

King shot a dashing smile at Klaus. "You're welcome," he said. "But maybe we can find another way for you to thank me."

"Like what?"

"I don't know," said King. "But something more pleasurable that makes me weak in the knees."

Klaus gaped. "I doubt I can do anything that would make you weak in the knees," he mumbled.

King's eyes darkened over Klaus's face. "You'd be surprised what you can do to me," he said sternly.

Klaus was glad that they had arrived at the park because being in a car alone with someone like King was way too much to endure. Klaus got out of the van and the bus had arrived a second after them. Right behind Klaus was the entire theme-park that the kids were eager to get inside of.

The rushing sound of coasters and the shrieking screams of people was a thrill all on its own. Many people were walking into the park and the lines were huge. The sun was still high up in the sky and the excitement grew in everyone from the sight of the massive park rides.

"I have a few instructions before we go," said Klaus and the kids hushed to listen carefully. "I need all of you to stay with me and your other teachers. I don't want any of you wandering off alone. Now, why don't we all thank Mr. Vitiello who planned this for all of us."

"Thank you!" The kids shouted together on cue.

King lifted a nonchalant hand. "Let's get going already," he said and the students all ran and joined his side to get into the park.

Apparently, he had bought the passes and arranged for their arrival. The park employees only saw King when they let him through without standing in line. King ushered the kids through the gate first and the employee stamped all of their hands with a Ferris-wheel, that matched the one directly in front of them.

"Woah!" All the students gaped at the massive park ready to explore to their heart's content.

"Don't lose your heads," reminded Hailey to her students as she saw them ready to run.

The students were eager to get going and their teachers weren't far behind either. Sabrina and Viola were more eager to get on the rollercoasters with all of the students, which they all had. It seemed surreal but once the Centauri pack arrived, the level of excitement in the park reached the moon.

Everyone was excited and the music playing on the speaker didn't hold any competition to the screams on the rides. Klaus, Hailey and King stayed on the side as they waited for the kids to get off the ride and then run to the next one. Thanks to King, none of the kids had to wait in the long lines for any of the rides.

Once the sun started to set, some of the students stayed in line to ride the bigger and scarier roller-coaster, but some of the students knew that they wouldn't be able to handle that intense ride, so they joined Hailey, Klaus and King to the game stalls to win some prizes.

Klaus noticed all the kids trying super hard at all the games, many of them won lots of prizes and were covered in glowing sticks and funny headbands. Klaus was glad that more than anything, his students were having the best time of their lives.

Klaus turned around and looked at King who was between Leo, Dante, Jake, Levi and John. They were all huddled around the shooting gallery looking rather focused even after losing multiple times. King had arranged such a special trip for the students who were going to appreciate this gift forever. Klaus's heart warmed and he never thought someone like King Vitiello was capable of being so sweet.

Klaus noticed Leo turn towards King and the boy handed King the fake toy-gun. But the way, King held the plastic pistol made it feel really real. Klaus gaped at the threatening sight, he would have thought that King would keep it on the low that he was highly practiced around weapons, but the crazy man hadn't done that. King's hand tightened over the handle and he didn't even need to try like the others had.

The employee of the game gave the cue to begin the game. King stood tall between the boys and he held the gun at an angle with one arm extended out in front of him. King shot with precision and nothing disturbed the savage look in his sapphire eyes that glared at the poor small targets, that moved quickly side-to-side trying to save themselves from King. Never missing a target, King ended the game. He tossed the gun at the astounded employee and ended up receiving the biggest prize they had.

The employee passed a massive bright purple gorilla. King grabbed it from her and handed it to Leo who had requested King to play for him. Everyone had gathered and berated King to play for them now too. King's blue eyes searched around him as he was being pulled to the next game, his eyes looked and looked until they landed directly and Klaus who was waiting for Viola, Sabrina and Hailey to finish at the funnel-cake stand. King looked as if he needed help from Klaus, but he wasn't going to get any because the students were getting aggressive. Klaus laughed at the poor guy who had no idea what he started.

Viola came beside Klaus with the funnel-cake dish in her hand. "He seems to be getting along with everyone," she said.

"Yeah," he sighed.

The lanterns around the park had turned on and the entire park was ready to go all night. Klaus looked at King who was at another stall helping the girls at the Dunk-tank game. He couldn't understand why King was trying so hard and for what reason. Maybe, he knew about the mating bond between them, Klaus pondered.

Viola's green eyes grinned like her lips. "It's so obvious," she stated. "Don't even try to hide it."

"I'm not hiding anything," said Klaus. Suddenly, his hand was grabbed and King was beside him.

"Save me," King requested strictly.

Klaus looked around the man and saw a group of students looking for him. "He's right over here!" he shouted and the students came running over.

King drew in a harsh breath. "Traitor," he growled hotly. "I'll get you back for that."

"It's not very convincing when you're being dragged away by a bunch of teenagers," said Klaus, before King could give a snarky little comment, the students pulled him away by his arm.

"Poor guy," Sabrina chuckled and joined them after she was done enjoying her dessert.

"King's a good guy," said Hailey. "I wasn't expecting for him to be like this."

"Me either," added Viola.

Sabrina waved a hand. "He only likes to act all scary and mean," she said. "But he's a real softie." Sabrina definitely told the truth as they all watched King helping the students.

Klaus spotted Viola struggling with her fork. "Hold on," Klaus grabbed the fork from his sister. He broke the sugar-glazed pastry into smaller bites.

Viola put her arm over his shoulders and kissed his temple. "Thank you," she said and ate comfortably.

"Hailey, are you doing okay?" Sabrina asked. "You want to get off your feet?"

"No, I'm good," said Hailey as she looked around the park. "Apparently, the firework show starts soon. So, we should probably head over to the fields and get a good seat."

"Wait, I wanted to go on the Ferris-wheel before the fireworks," said Viola as she tossed the plastic plate in the trash.

Klaus gathered the kids in a circle and King was finally set free from his duties. He looked battered as he slugged back beside Klaus and every other kid had a new toy in their hands.

"Do you all want to ride the Ferris-wheel before we go see the fireworks?" Viola asked the kids.

"Will we be able to make it on time?" asked their student, Denise.

"The Ferris-wheel is only for a few moments," answer Hailey. "If we go now, we should be able to do it all in time."

The whole group moved together and with help of King's clearance, none of them had to wait in line. They used the side entrance to the ride and Klaus felt a little bad for the others, but he forgot his regret once he saw the colossal white Ferris-wheel. The ring was glowing with different colours and the light-show was dancing brightly to let the whole park know that the Ferris-wheel was ready to play.

Groups of students got into the white pods that were black on the inside and completely glass, even the floors. The adults were at the very end and the last to get on.

"Klaus, you go first," Sabrina said hurriedly.

Klaus quickly got on without any complaint, he looked out and waited for them to get on but the ladies hadn't. "What's wrong?" he asked. "Why aren't you getting on?"

The ladies smiled cunningly before they pushed King inside the pod and told the employee to close the door, which the employee gladly complied. Klaus gaped at the girls as the pod started to climb up.

"You should sit down," King suggested.

Klaus turned to find King already seated on one side. "Why'd they do that?" he mumbled. Klaus slumped down on the opposite side of King. The lights inside the pod had turned off and now it felt as if they were standing in the night sky with the park and the world at their feet.

King crossed his legs at the knee and instead of looking at the night sky, he looked only at Klaus. "Maybe, they thought that we needed some time alone," he said.

Even in the darkness, Klaus could see King's blue eyes and handsome face that looked even scarier at night. "Why would they think that?" he looked away so he wouldn't get lost in that intense gaze.

"Because you know what we have to talk about," alleged King.

Klaus froze. "You know about the bond," he astounded. "When did you find out?"

"The moment I saw you," stated King. "You're inside my heart and I can't seem to let you out. Well... I don't think I really want to."

Klaus stared into those commanding eyes that appeared vulnerable for a moment, but then it was masked with amusement. "I never thought I'd find a mate," he said.

"Why?" asked King.

"Because I don't think I'm worthy to have one," said Klaus.

King laughed coldly. "You're not worthy," he mocked. "How do you think I feel?"

Klaus blinked, he was kind of confused. "But you didn't do anything bad," he believed.

King couldn't help but shake his head. "You're-" he had no words. "Klaus... I'm a killer... a cold-blooded killer." The air around King twisted into feral heat, a dangerous power emitted from the man and Klaus could sense the thick pheromones emitted from King's menacing wolf. "And more than anything, I want to make a mess out of you," he challenged daringly. "From the moment I first laid eyes on you, I knew that you were mine."

Klaus shivered from King's dark voice that a slithered up his spine. "Will you be able to be with me?" he asked carefully. "I mean, I have a lot of brothers and a sister and they can be pretty scary when they want to be."

King grinned, clearly, he was amused. "Worrying over me already," he jested.

Klaus didn't smile back. "Yes. I am worried about your safety."

"I think I can handle your pack," King shrugged a shoulder.

"You seem confident," said Klaus. "What makes you so sure?"

King smirk grew into a smile, like he knew a secret. "Because you were the only one that has ever caught me off guard," he said. "The pack isn't anything compared to you."

Suddenly, the Ferris-wheel stopped forcing them out of their deep conversation. "This is the High-Roller ride operator," a woman's voice calmly streamed through every speaker on the Ferris-wheel. "I am sorry to inform you that there have been some difficulties and the ride has stopped. We will try our best to get it running, so please wait in your seats until the ride begins again. Thank you for your patience."

Klaus looked down at his cell phone. "The firework show starts in a couple of minutes," he complained. "We won't be able to make it."

"I doubt it'll take long to fix the ride," said King.

Their pod slightly swung in the cold breeze of the night. Klaus slumped down on the seat, looking at the magical view that definitely made this day special.

"Thank you for bringing us here," said Klaus. "The students won't be able to forget this night."

A secret smile had been playing on King's lips the entire ride and it unsettled Klaus. "You're too good to be true," King said softly.

Klaus shook his head. "I'm not," he replied. "I'm not what you think I am."

King's dark gaze searched through Klaus's eyes. "I've spent a lot of time with evil people, so trust me when I say that I can recognize it when I see one," King's low voice calmed Klaus's erratic heart.

"Will you tell me one day?" asked Klaus.

King uncrossed his legs and leaned forward. Klaus didn't look, but he got a clear view of the dark tattoos on King's chest. "Tell you what?" he asked.

"Your past that no one knows about," answered Klaus.

King grinned coldly. "It won't scare you away from me, will it?" he warned grimly.

"You don't need to worry about me," Klaus said with a small smile reassuring King, because Klaus was sure that King felt uneasy to reveal his past to anyone, especially his mate. "I want to know everything about my mate."

All mischief fell from King's face, his throbbing smile fell too and he seemed at loss of words. "Fuck," he growled hotly. "I can't take it anymore." King moved with speed across the pod and he grabbed Klaus's collar yanking him to meet King's lips.

Klaus's breath stopped in his lungs and his mouth was consumed by the untamed heat that King controlled him with. There was no stopping this or forgetting either. Klaus moved against King's lips and it was like that sent King over the edge even further. King shoved his hands through Klaus's hair and he pulled him lower to King's hungry lips. The small pod filled with the dark, fiery scent that melted into Klaus's bones. Klaus could sense that both of their wolves had responded to the male-bonding scent and they had accepted it without any problems too.

King deepened the kiss when Klaus gently slipped his hand on King's nape, that he was so eager to touch too. King's skin was hard, bronzed and tattooed and Klaus loved every single part of it. King's tongue forced Klaus to yield to his power and Klaus complied. He fell into submission, letting King take all that he wanted from Klaus.

Kneeled between Klaus's legs, King had slowed the heated kiss. His lips moved over Klaus's and now it felt as if King wanted to remember what Klaus's lips felt like underneath his.

Suddenly, the pod jerked and the ride began again.

King ripped his lips away, but he didn't move back away from Klaus. He stayed between his legs and shared the same air as Klaus.

"You taste even better than I imagined," King's voice was thick with arousal.

Klaus was scared to even breath since all he could sense and feel was King's aroused scent. "You should take a seat," he warned.

King chuckled darkly. "If I move right now, I'll probably kiss you again," King's sapphire eyes looked up and met Klaus's dazed eyes. "Do you want me to move?" he dared smugly.

Klaus stared into those eyes. "No," he said. "Don't move away from me."

King grinned as his fingers combed further through Klaus's golden hair. Klaus didn't even realize that King's hands were still in his hair, but those fingers felt divine so he couldn't tell King to stop.

Finally, their pod reached the top of the Ferris-wheel, when suddenly, blasts of colour shot into the night sky and exploded.

"No, the show started," exclaimed Klaus. "We couldn't make it on time."

King didn't seem bothered as he returned to his seat. "I think I enjoyed our show better," he sighed.

Klaus was thankful that it was dark because he blushed brightly. "Still, I was looking forward to it." More explosions of flowery designs erupted in the sky and then vanished before the next cycle came. "But, I guess this isn't a bad view at all."

Klaus smiled when more fireworks went off, they coloured the sky with magical shapes and vibrant colours. Some shot straight up before they exploded; others whirled in a gold spiral and erupted; some shattered into thousands of blue, red and green sparks; others tumbled like a scarlet waterfall or floated in a glittering white shower.

While he tried to enjoy the show, he couldn't help but feel a whole burning through his head. Klaus sensed King's eyes on him the whole time. "You'll miss the show," he said shyly.

King shook his head. "I'm enjoying my view quite fondly," he remarked.

He always had a smart answer, thought Klaus. King Vitiello was trouble.

The ride came to an end and the entire pack emptied out of the ride. The students were thrilled that they had the best seats to enjoy the fireworks. King and Klaus got off the ride too and joined the group near the exit.

Klaus was sure that his face was probably still a deep shade of red, but that didn't bother him as much how calm King appeared. The man simply raked his tousled hair back and appeared perfectly normal, like the kiss hadn't caused a hurricane in him like it had for Klaus.

Sabrina joined their side. "We should head home now," she looked down at her watch.

"Let's load everyone onto the bus," Klaus told them.

Viola, Hailey and Klaus were quick to gather all the students again as they moved to exit the park after the long night. The bus had arrived at the front to pick up all the kids. Klaus counted the students and took the attendance as one-by-one they entered the bus to take their seats.

"I'm going to take Hailey to the car," Viola told Klaus.

"Yeah, I got it covered here," said Klaus. As he counted the kids he couldn't help but steal a glimpse at King who was standing calmly next to Sabrina, he held the door open to the van for her and sweetly helped Hailey into the car too.

"Leo, Dante," Klaus said as they were the last two to get in the bus. "Okay, that's everyone." He moved to get on the bus when his hand was seized.

"Not going to say goodbye to your mate," jested King.

Klaus frowned. "You're not coming with us?" his voice was clear with disappointment.

King grinned so cunningly. "I don't live at your pack, remember?" he said.

"Still, you could've joined us for dinner," Klaus added softly.

King skimmed his hand over Klaus's cheek that was still warm from earlier. "Sweet offer, but I should head home," he said. "I don't think I should be left alone with you for too long."

Klaus gaped. "Wh-what?"

"Goodnight, Klaus," King whispered with a voice that was rich as velvet.

Klaus tightened his hand around King's before he could pull away. "I'll see you soon, right?" Klaus asked shyly.

"Come to me anytime," it felt as if King challenged Klaus, "I'll be waiting for you."

The same black Lamborghini had arrived behind the bus and King walked towards the car leaving Klaus alone near the door of the bus, that was full of kids but none were King.

Turn, thought Klaus as he watched King take full strides nearing his car. Turn towards me, Klaus yearned again. He had almost given up, but, King had turned making Klaus's heart stop in his chest. King smiled when he had seen that Klaus was watching him too. With a soft laugh, he opened his car's door and got into the vehicle. Klaus bit back his smile and got into the rowdy bus.

"Okay, calm down!" He yelled over the boisterous voices, but he wasn't sure if he was telling the kids to relax or his poor heart.

The bus drove off and Klaus had taken a seat. He already wanted to see King again, but he bit back the urge for tonight, because all his students were with him. Klaus rested his head back on the grey seat and got lost in watching all the trees flash by, just so he wouldn't remember King's eyes or his lips.
