Tomorrow was Monday, which normally meant school, but not for you, at least not today. You had decided to take the day off after the weekend you had with Damon. Damon. That name made a smile come to your face every time. You and Caroline had the most amazing talk about him.

She encouraged you to ask him out, which is all you needed to tell Damon how you felt. You didn't know when, but you were planning on telling him sometime soon. But first, you needed to sleep in.

You needed the extra sleep, but as always the universe was working against you. You got a phone call at six-thirty in the morning and groggily opened your eyes. "Hello?" you asked in a croaky voice. "Y/N?" you heard Stefan ask on the other line. "Yeah, what's up?" you asked him.

"Hey, sorry to wake you up, but Elena told me that you weren't going to school today, is that true?" he asked you. "Yep, I'm taking the day off," you replied. "Great, then can I ask you to do me a favor?" he questioned.

"Sure, what is it?" you asked. "Damon kind of got really drunk last night, and he is completely knocked out, but I just don't want to leave him alone. Do you mind coming over and watching him until I get home from school?" Stefan explained. That was enough to make you sit up, excited.

"Yeah, I'll be right over," you said, more awake now. "Great, thanks Y/N, I'll see you soon," Stefan told you before hanging up the phone. You quickly got out of bed and into the shower. This was it. You were going to tell him how you felt.

You got out of the shower as fast as you could and blow-dried your hair, making it look good. You put on an outfit, applied some make-up, slipped on your favorite shoes, grabbed your keys, and drove over to the Salvatore's house.

You knocked on the door, and Stefan opened it with a smile, "Hey Y/N," he said warmly. "Hey Stef," you replied. "I'm sorry to do this to you, I'm just worried about him, and I know you guys have some sort of connection," he told you. "Yeah, no worries, I promise, I get it. Where is he?" you questioned.

"Upstairs in his bedroom, still sleeping," Stefan replied. "Great, well, tell Elena 'Hi' for me when you get to school," you responded, and Stefan nodded his head before giving you a small hug. "Thanks again, Y/N, you're a lifesaver," he told you before leaving.

"Anytime," you told mainly yourself, although you wouldn't be surprised if Stefan actually heard you. You then walked up to Damon's room and peeked in. He was sprawled out all over his bed with his shirt off and liquor bottles coating the floor. He looked like a drunken mess.

You let out a small sigh as you asked yourself why he even got drunk in the first place. You then went down into their kitchen and started fixing Damon a glass of water, but then realized that water wasn't going to help him.

So, you began searching the house for the blood-bags Damon mentioned he had in the house. You finally found them in the basement and grabbed a couple bringing them back up to Damon's room. You sat down on the bed next to him, and he slightly stirred.

He opened his eyes slightly and groaned. "Y/N, what are you doing here?" he asked. "Stefan wanted me to stay with you. He had to go to school with Elena, and I was taking the day off anyway," you replied. "You should have gone to school," Damon told you, and you just furrowed your eyebrows slightly.

You then handed Damon the blood-bags. "I thought these might help the hangover," you told Damon, and he just sighed a little bit, taking them from you. He then crawled out of bed and walked over to the other side of his room.

"Damon, why did you get drunk last night?" you asked him. "Because I can," Damon replied, seeming to be getting angrier. "Damon, what's going on?" you asked coming closer to him. "Nothing, Y/N! You know what, you didn't care before, so why even bother now?" Damon snapped back.

"Damon I did care. You mean something to me. You mean a lot, and that's part of the reason why I came over today. To tell you that I want to be with you," you told him. "Well, it doesn't matter anymore. I'm over you," he replied.

You took a step back, feeling your heart break into a thousand pieces. "Damon," you started but he cut you off. "Just get out of my house Y/N," he stated, glaring at you. You looked at him with a tear in your eye, letting it fall down your cheek before you walked out of Damon's house and drove back to your house, letting yourself collapse onto your bed and cry.

Damon's POV:

I woke up to Y/N sitting at my bed. As soon as I opened my eyes and saw her, I felt my heart break. The first time since Katherine that I had started to fall in love, and she didn't love me back...she didn't even want to love me back.

"Y/N, what are you doing here?" I asked her. "Stefan wanted me to stay with you. He had to go to school with Elena, and I was taking the day off anyway," she replied with a smile. Her smile killed me every time. It was perfect. She was perfect. And that only made me hurt more.

"You should have gone to school," I told her, trying to hint that I didn't want her here. She just ignored it though and handed me a blood-bag, saying, "I thought these might help with the hangover."

She knew exactly what I needed. I didn't even need to tell her. I don't know how but she just knew me, which of course only makes me madder that she doesn't want me. Was I that bad? Unable to look at her, yet needing the blood-bag, I took it from her with a sigh and walked across the room, with my back facing her.

"Damon, why did you get drunk last night?" she asked me. I couldn't spill my heart out to her. Not again. It wasn't worth the pain. So instead, I just simply replied, "Because I can."

"Damon, what's going on?" she asked, trying to come closer. That's when I lost it as I yelled, "Nothing, Y/N! You know what, you didn't care before, so why even bother now?" I didn't mean to lose it on her, but I was in pain, and she could care less about me.

"Damon I did care. You mean something to me. You mean a lot, and that's part of the reason why I came over here today. To tell you that I want to be with you," she told me, with a hopeful look in her eyes.

I couldn't trust that she wanted to be with me though. Katherine did the same thing to me, and what if Y/N was just playing me? So I told her a lie. "Well, it doesn't matter anymore. I'm over you," I told her. She took a step back as if I had just hit her, but she didn't back down as she said my name softly.

"Just get out of my house," I told her, protecting my heart. She wasn't going to play me. I wasn't going to let her. But, this was when I actually looked at Y/N. She looked completely broken.

Seeing her like this broke my heart too, and as I watched a single tear roll down her cheek I realized that I had made the biggest mistake of my life. Y/N walked out of the room while I was processing what I had just done, and I attempted to go after her, but she was already in her car, and she was already driving off.

I didn't care what I had to do to fix this; I was going to do it. I loved her, and Y/N was coming to tell me that she wanted to be with me, and I sent her away. I needed to fix this.
