Chapter 5
I walk into a narrow hallway made of stone. I'm worried about the others especially Asriel. What if someone dies? Would we be able to get out then? My breathing gets faster and I collapse on the floor. Breath, I think to myself now isn't the time for an anxiety attack. I look around to try and ground myself, but it's empty and I can't find five things. I think back to when Asriel was born...
When I was five, I waited patiently outside the hospital room with my dad. He was a goat man like my soon to be brother with a kind smile and blue eyes. A doctor came out.
"Come on in," he said kindly. I followed my dad in the room. My mom was lying on the bed holding a tiny bundle. I can't remember her too well, all I remember I had her brown hair and eyes.
"Rhion," she whispered, "meet your brother Asriel." I peered into the blanket to see what looked like a smaller version of dad. My heart melted and I fell in love.
"Would you like to hold him?" Dad asked. I nodded. "Careful with his head." He handed him to me. Asriel opened his eyes, a lighter green then mine. A small smile came when he saw me. He yawned and fell back asleep in my arms.
"Rhion," Dad interrupted my thoughts, "if something ever happened to us, promise you'll take care of him."
"I will daddy."
He's the only family I have left. I get up and breath.
"Okay," I say to myself, "what to do? This is a maze so... I'll stick to the left wall." I follow the left wall and came to a room with three paths. Forward, left right. I go left. It feels like the labyrinth from Percy Jackson. Except the wall isn't disappearing, which is good. I hear something like a motor starting up ahead. I reach for my sword that Zelda gave to me. It's a short sword with a black handle. I continue forward to see some type of mechanic. It's glowing red with a blue eye. Five legs sprout out from the body. Noticing me, it begins to hone in on me. I run and its eye follows me. Suddenly, it shoots a laser where I would have been if I hadn't jumped out of the way. I run towards it but it backs up and keeps homing in on me. It shoots another laser and I run forward. I take out one leg, stunning it for just long enough for me to take out all legs, each time, stunning it more. Finally, it can't move and I finish the job. It explodes and leaves some strange materials. Maybe Tails can identify them. I pick them up and continue onward.
Tails
Tails walks into a dark room. Inside, a cloaked man in front of a table with two decks on them.
"Care to play?" The man asks in a ominous voice. This has to be the trial, Tails thought to himself.
"Okay, how do we play?" Tails asks.
"In front of me is two decks. One deck, a normal one, the other a deck containing many things. We play blackjack with one deck. The loser has to pick a card from the other deck. If you manage to kill me, you win. There are equal good and bad choices in the deck. If I chose a bad thing, I take damage. A good thing heals me. Do you accept?" This is confusing, but I can't go on without defeating him.
"If I defeat you, is the amulet mine?" The man nodded. "Very well, I accept your terms." The man sits down and Tails follows his lead. They play. First round, Tails loses. He chooses a card out of the many things. An ace of hearts.
"That," the man spoke, "is the fates card. Once, you may rewind time a few seconds to prevent an event. Let us continue." The deck magically shuffles itself. The man loses next game. He pulls a queen of hearts. An amulet shaped like a gear appears.
"This card summons a magic item. If you had gotten it, you would have automatically won. Next game." Tails loses. He draws a jack of clubs. The man begins to laugh.
"You lose." A cloaked figure appears out of nowhere, holding a scythe. "That is the Avatar of Death. It will kill you." Tails backs up to a wall.
"No!" He pulls out his fates card and flips it. Time rewinds to when he was about to lose the game. He is about to sigh a breath of relief when the man stands up.
"You drew the Avatar of Death. You die now!" He draws two black swords and charges. Tails jumped to avoid.
"That's not fair!" The man laughs.
"In this house, nothing is fair!" Tails leaps above the man and on to the table. He grabs the Deck of Many Things, the amulet and runs towards the door.
"Get back here!" The man catches up to him. He knocks Tails over and pin him down to the floor, dropping the cards and amulet in the process.
"Did you honestly think you could escape me? Heh, that's cute." Tails struggles to escape, but to no avail. The man stabs both sword into Tails's shoulders, making Tails scream in pain.
"Please stop!" Tears begin to spill out of his eyes.
"Weakling," the man mutters in his ear. He stabs one sword into one tail.
"I. Am not. WEAK!" A red blast shot from Tails's heart. A red spirit appeared in front of him, as if to shield him. He grabbed the cards and amulet and ran for the door. He placed it in a gear shaped hole in the door. It opens.
"No!" The man shouted. His cloak had been removed revealing a man with grey skin, brown evil eyes and red hair and beard. Tails scampered out the door. He appeared in the safe room right before falling unconscious.
Rhion
I run into another hallway. One after another. A flying sentry unit chases me. It is built similarly to the Guardian I fought with the same laser eyes. I turn around and shoot it in the eye with a bone. It stops, shakes before exploding. It drops more strange pieces and a amulet shaped like a alpha symbol. This must be what I was looking for. I grab it and keep running. A door appears in front of me. There is no handle, rather a alpha shaped hole. I place the amulet in and the floor beneath me drops. I yell as I go down a ramp leading to I don't know where. The ramp evens out and I'm back in the safe room. Tails is on the ground unconscious.
"Tails!" I run over to him and check for a pulse. It's weak and he's covered in his own blood. I remember Rosalina telling me she left a First Aids Kit in here. I look around frantically trying to find it. Finally, I find a chest with a First Aid Kit inside. I try to remember some things dad taught me about first aid. I clean his wounds with rubbing alcohol. Next, I wrap his shoulders up, then his tail. I place him on the couch and pray to Arceus he was going to be alright.
Heya! Hope you enjoyed! I'm having fun developing each character and what they would be like in a modern setting like this.
