Chapter 4

Bloom waited, but the car never hit her. She opened her eyes and saw herself on the other side of the road. How did I get here? Bloom asked herself. Only then the black she-cat felt some pain in her scruff. She thought that she was alone until Bloom heard someone breathing heavily.

The black she-cat looked over her shoulder and saw a broad-shouldered, thin though, smoky molted gray tom that had twice her size. He seemed to be just one or two moons older than Bloom. She turned to face him, then the small she-cat arched her back, so she would seem bigger, and let out a hiss.

The smoky tom purred in amusement, and started to clean himself. Bloom stopped hissing and asked in anger and confusion "Why are you purring!?"

"Because the both of us know that you can't and don't know to to fight." He purred and continued to clean himself "And by the way, you're welcome."

"For what? I don't even know you."

"For saving your life of course. What else could it be? If it weren't for me, that car would've hit and killed you. And you might not know me, but I know exactly who you are, Bloom."

"Wait, how do yo-"

"Follow me." The smoky gray tom meowed and dashed into the forest. As Bloom didn't know anything about living in the forest, and was curious about that strange cat, she decided to follow the gray tom. The black she-cat dashed behind the tom, and found him waiting for her on a tree stump. She neared the tom, and sat by its side.

They kept staring at the trees, and Bloom was unable to speak. She was curious, and didn't dare to speak until the gray tom spoke first. "Once in the city, lived a she-cat named Jynx and-"

"I've already heard that story," Bloom interrupted "and why are you-"

"Just listen." The gray tom told Bloom the story about Scourge and Jynx, but the ending of his story was different "Jynx had three kits with Scourge: Tiny, a black and white tom kit named after his father, Venom, a dark gray tom with dark green eyes, and Kali, the smallest of them. She looked exactly like Scourge, except for her white underbelly. Just after the battle against the Clans, Jynx hid in the forest, near a place called Snakerocks. She hid Kali in a bush and went to get Tiny and Venom, but when she returned with the two kits, Soul was gone. The gray she-cat searched everywhere, but she couldn't find her kit. While this, Ame, a tabby she-cat that was a BloodClanner, lost her mate, Bone, in the battle against the clans, and with that, Ame killed herself, leaving her 2 moons old kit alone."

Bloom was kinda confused by now. The story started with Scourge and Jynx, and now, the mysterious tom was talking about a kit. This really didn't make sense. The black she-cat didn't interrupt though, and just let him talk.

"This kit grew up to be a strong cat. He lived alone for many moons, until the day that this cat discovered where the lost kit as a house cat. The cat started to follow the house cat, and one day, this house cat ran away because of the death of her mother. She decided to live in the forest. The house-cat was almost hit by a car when crossing a road, and was saved by the cat that kept following her. Then they sat together on a tree stump, and the cat told the house cat a story about her parents. End of the story."

The final part was exactly what had just happened. What's going on in here? Bloom asked herself, still reflecting about the story. If the ending part talks about me and him, and the last thing he said was that the cat told the house cat a story about her parents, then this house cat can be me. And if I am the kittypet, then my parents are... Jynx and Scourge?

"Very funny, but I'm sure I am not Scourge's daughter." The black she-cat meowed laughing a little. The gray tom stared at her with a serious look, and didn't seem to be kidding.

"Can't you see?" He meowed, surprised with her asnwer "You are just like Scourge's only daughter; small with black fur, one white paw and underbelly, and icy blue eyes!"

"I won't believe that! Iris told me that-" Bloom growled at him.

"Why do you even listen to her? I mean, why DID you listen to her?" he emphasized the word did "She lied to you this whole time! You are his daughter, and you just don't want to accept it!"

Bloom didn't want to believe what the tom was saying and wanted to believe Iris had told her the truth. Deep inside, though, she knew that the tom was right, and that Iris had lied to her. "Maybe you're right. But why'd I believe or trust you if I don't even know your name?"

The gray tom opened his mouth to protest, and heartbeat later he closed it and meowed smiling "You know Bloom, you're quite clever for a house cat like you. And for your information, I'm Lord Smoke III." and bowed this head while saying his name. The black she-cat couldn't help, but purr and laugh.

"Really?" She meowed still laughing "Lord Smoke III?"

"Nope. Just Smoke. I was just being myself."

"Fine Just Smoke. Why would I believe or trust you?"

"Well, I met you when you were just a newborn, and because I can take you to your real mother and brothers."

The black she-cat always dreamed about her family, and if she went with Smoke, she would finally meet them. Bloom thought a little more about it, and accepted Smoke's offer. "Just one more thing." Smoke meowed "To find them we'll need to cross that road again." Bloom eyes widened in fear as she remembered her almost death while crossing that road.

"Or we can cross a tunnel under the road, but we'll need to walk more. And with that leg I think it won't be good for you." The gray tom meowed pointing to Bloom's leg, that was covered in dry blood. It still hurt, but she could bear it

At least it wasn't bleeding anymore. "I'll be fine." The small she-cat meowed and followed Smoke down the road. They kept silent, and sometimes Bloom whimpered in pain. The two cats had to stop twice, so Bloom could rest her leg. By the time Bloom and Smoke got to the tunnel, it was almost noon.

"If we want to be there before it is night, we'll have to hurry." Smoke meowed looking up "This means we can't stop anymore." The black she-cat sighed and then nodded. They crossed the tunnel and walked up the road. The sun was bright above their heads, and Bloom felt her belly rumble.

At first she ignored it, knowing that they had to hurry. But then the black she-cat's belly rumbled louder, and she thought Smoke had heard it. Before Bloom could say anything, Smoke meowed "Wait here." And then the gray tom disappeared in a bush behind them. Bloom wanted to follow him, but she'd probably get lost if she tried to follow Smoke.

Minutes later, Smoke returned with a robin and a hare in his jaws. He put the hare in front of Bloom, and took a bite of his robin. She didn't know if she'd like hare, but its smell was amazing. The small she-cat took at deep breath and took a bite of the hare. It was 100 times better than the food the housefolks gave her. Bloom happily took another bite of the hare and licked her whiskers. Smoke had already finished his prey when Bloom finished hers. The two cats were cleaning themselves when the gray tom ears pricked.

Smoke opened his mouth and looked around. Bloom did the same, but didn't find anything strange. The gray tom quickly rose to his paws, grabbed Bloom by the scruff and hid into a bush some taillengths away from where they were eating. Before she could protest, Smoke put his tail into her mouth. A heartbeat later, Bloom heard pawsteps and stopped biting his tail. He took his tail out of her mouth and started to clean the blood that leaked from the wounds Bloom had made. She looked at him as whispered "Sorry."

"The rogue is back Cloudtail." the black she-cat heard a voice meow, near where Smoke and Bloom had been less then a minute ago "And it seems he has company."

"He must be mousebrained." meowed a she-cat. "Even more than I thought by bringing another cat to the forest with him."

"Tell me what you smell Shrewpaw." the first tom meowed.

After some heartbeats, Bloom heard a young voice saying "I smell rogue and kittypet, and they are not far from here."

The cats said nothing to the young cat. The black she-cat pricked her ears and heard pawsteps approaching their hiding spot. She turned to Smoke and saw him slipping out of the bush. Bloom followed him silently. When he noticed that she had followed him, Smoke murmured to her "Go back to the bush and keep quiet." She nodded and returned to the bush.

When the cats where near the hiding spot, a voice echoed behind them "Cloudtail, Sandstorm, Thornclaw and Shrewpaw. It's a pleasure to see you again." It was Smoke.

"Get out of ThunderClan's territory!" hissed another tom. Bloom wanted to see what was going on, so she opened a hole in the bush and saw four cats and Smoke. There were three toms and a she-cat. The young tom had a dark brown fur; the other tom had a golden-brown tabby pelt; the last tom had a white fluffy fur, and Bloom guessed he was Cloudtail; and the she-cat had a pale ginger fur, probably Sandstorm thought Bloom.

"And take your kittypet friend with you!" growled the golden-brown tom, his neck fur bristling and ears flattened. It seemed like he was ready for a fight. Smoke on the other side was pretty calm, and making fun of the four cats.

Smoke purred and laughed. He really enjoyed teasing other cats "Oh, come on Thornclaw. You too Cloudtail. We've been friends for so long. Don't you want me to stay?" Thornclaw, the golden-brown tom, prepared to launch himself at Smoke, but Cloudtail stopped him.

"We can't let him madden us. He is just trying to make us upset." The white tom meowed to Thornclaw, and Bloom could see that both of them were getting upset at Smoke. "And you," Cloudtail looked at Smoke "where is your kittypet friend?"

"Do you want me to call her?" The smoke gray tom challenged Cloudtail. The white cat didn't answer, and Bloom felt her paws tremble. "Bloom my dear, why don't you come here?" Now she had to walk to where Smoke was. Bloom was very scared and couldn't hide it. She followed the trail Smoke had taken at a slow pace, and set herself by his side. As she sat by him, Smoke whispered in her ear "Hide your fear scent." Bloom calmed a little and stared at the four cats in front of her.

Cloudtail, Thornclaw and Sandstorm gasped when they saw Bloom. The young cat stared at them confused. The black she-cat could see that Sandstorm was frozen, maybe in fear, and the toms were breathing heavily. Bloom didn't understand the three cats reaction. Shrewpaw was trying to wake Thornclaw from his trance, but he was emanating lots of fear scent, even more than Bloom.

She was surprised by something touching her shoulder, and saw Smoke signaling her to leave. Bloom looked at the shocked cats one last time and followed Smoke into the forest, leaving Shrewpaw alone.
