Afraid

She strained to hear anything from her bed in the house, just wishing that she could fall asleep. She wished the power would come back on so the humming of the fridge would lull her to sleep, but her wish wouldn't come true.

Just after midnight, dreadfully awaiting the beginning of the horrible storm that she had been preparing for almost a week, her entire houses power had gone out, and she couldn't sleep.

She didn't mind at first, but the silence was getting to her.

She grew up listening to a combination of her father’s quiet snoring, a dripping in the shower, and the wind outside, so much to her displeasure and her constant insisting of the opposite, she needed noise to sleep.

Sure her shower was dripping, but there was no wind and no snoring as much as she wished for it. To be honest the lack of noise was scaring her, and she could clearly hear her heartbeat, as well as her dogs. It scared her. She was getting more and more scared.

An image of a deformed human came into her mind that she had seen in the horror movie she watched last night before the power went out and all she could imagine was it at her bedside, reaching down at her. She opened her eyes quickly and looked where she expected it to be, but as she knew, nothing was there. She groaned in frustration and closed her eyes again.
