▪ Chapter 7 ▪

Rachel:

"So, what did you need to talk to me about?" I instantly snap out of my thought of concentration as Cam's worried bur slightly annoyed eyes stare intently at me.

"Oh, um well, I saw something. Upstairs, when I was looking for a spare key, I went into the only unlocked room down this dark hallway, I saw a room filled with weapons-" I get cut off by the sound of the door flying open and slamming hardly against the wall.

"Alpha Sir," I turn around in my seat at the voice of a deep and unfamiliar voice. I turn only to see a large, fully suited in armour man standing there trying to completely ignore me sitting here staring expectantly at the man.

"What is it Alex?" Cam says frustrated and lets out a exasperated sigh afterwards.

"Sir, we have had allegations of a stray wolf lurking around the township," the man finally notices me sitting there and nods curtly towards me, it looks like he is signaling something....

"Umm, ok. Rachel, sorry but we will have to talk about this later. Why don't you head home?" Cam obviously gets what the guard is suggesting and tells me to leave before I hear too much information.

"Oh ok, no problem. Maybe talk to you tomorrow?" I smile weakly Cam and he nods.

"Yes, maybe. See you tomorrow," Cam smiles back. "Alex, could you please escort Rachel here back to her home?" Cam nods towards me whilst looking at the guard.

"Yes, of course Sir." Alex comes towards me to help me up but I swat his helping hand away, striding out of the office quickly with Alex in quick recession. Cam really is being way too protective ever since I was kidnapped.

I hear Alex stomping behind me through the woods, he really has no stealth skills. The only reason why I am trudging through these dreaded woods is because it is the shortest way to get to my home, luck enough for me, my house is right next to the woods.

Cam:

"Do you know if these allegations are actually right?" I say sternly to Riley, who had been outside at the moment that a bunch of terrified women and their children had said that they have seen a stray wolf wandering around.

"Yes Cameron, I am one-hundred perecent sure. I even got a glimpse of the stray wolf when I went to investigate. The only reason why I didn't go and try to grab him was because he had a rather large dagger sticking out, only the butt of the dagger being seen." Riley seemed to be getting frustrated as he said these words, I do believe him but I would rather have seen him with my own eyes.

"Ok, sorry. I believe you," I put my hands up as a sign of innocence. Riley may be the youngest of the alphas until I came along, but I have heard many stories of Riley bravely fighting in small wars that have arisen.

"Where was the last place people saw him?" I ask cautiously. Riley's eyes glinting dagerously.

"I only saw him a good three minutes ago, he was standing outside the local pub," Riley says rapidly before suddenly heading down towards the town.

"Riley, wait!" I yell at his back, I run to catch up with him and when I do, I grab his arm and spin him viciously around. This earnt a low, dangerous growl from Riley, I instently let go of his arm but hold his hard, pressured gaze.

"We need to get guards, if he has anything else on him apart from the dagger, he could possibly badly hurt one of us," I say breathlessly turning back around to beckon my closest guards.

Ten of the heavily armed guards come running towards me, if they weren't my guards, I would have been terrified of them.

"Alright, listen up! We have news that the stray wolf is at the local pub down in the town. I need five of you to walk in front of Riley and I, the remaining five to walk along behind us." The guards share worried looks, clearly not expecting to be called from their posts just to capture a stray, lone wolf.

Five of the guards step in front of us and start to stalk towards the town, Riley and I closely follow with the remaining five behind us.

When we do eventually get into the pub, we instently get stared down by worried, curious looks. The guards up front look around the pub searching for the stray wolf.

"There," I wisper lowly, suprised tjat the guards even heard me but they did because they instantly stalk over to the man, one guard placing a hand upon the man's shoulder.

The man spins around with a dagger in his hand, he jabs the blade into the side of my guards stomach, earning a loud groan of pain from the gaurd as he lets go of the man's shoulder and stumbles backwards. Another guards un-sheaths his sword and stalks closer to the man who instantly drops the dagger on the bar top, his hands flying up in front of his chest as a sign of innocence.

"Enough!" I have to shout for my voice to be heard over the screams and yells of the people within the bar.

I stalk dangerously towards the man and put a pair of handvuffs around his hands, keeping an eye on his hands at all times. The guard who had his sword out, sheathed it again and ran over to the wounded guard who was bleeding out on the tiles. The guards put pressure onto the wound and helped him up before heading outside, back towards the estate.

I shove the man off of the chair and grab the dagger before putting it safely away into my pocket. I then turn the man around and push himtowards the door, a chorus of insults to the man followed. I raised my hand and instantly the whole bar fell silent.

"Who are you?" I ask the man in a hushed wisper. The man tilted his head towards me so that he could hear me better and smirked. He must have heard me but he is not going to tell me his name, excellent.

I push him harder which soon erases the smirk on his face. His face instead screws up in disgust.

"Where is the dagger?" Riley wispered into my ear urgently, probably hoping that he has not got it.

"Don't worry, I've got it in my pocket," I murmer to Riley, making sure that this stray didn't know where it was.

A large, almost gun-like BANG went off from behind us, not too far away from us as well. I turn my head to see a large wolf standing there, in the middle of the pathway staring at me angrily.

Suddenly the wolf advances on use with quick, precise steps and soon reaches within arm length of us.

"GUARDS!!!" I yell turning my head slightly so that they would be able to hear me better but it was too late.

The large wolf pounced on me, digging his fingernails into my chest. I go to un-sheath my sword but he grabs my wrist and sqeezes it tightly, making me want to cry out in pain. His wicked smile fills me with dread as I realize who this wolf actually is. It is Fletcher, the wolf who had almost killed me when I tried to save Rachel.

He stands up, his dagger-like claws still well inside my chest as he hauls me off of the ground. I scream out in pain, I don't really care who is listening to me right now because trust me, the pain is unbearable.

Fletcher flings me over and onto a large, stone wall as if I was a rag doll. I grunt painfully at the searing pain, progressing up my body.

I look over to where I was standing onlt moments before only to see Riley being thrown against another wall like a rag doll and my guards charging at Fletcher with their swords drawn. I hear Riley yell out in pain, oh trust me buddy, I know exactly what you are going through right now.

Rachel:

I walk slowly up the old, wooden stairs to my lonely old house and slip the key into the keyhole, twisting the cold, brass doorknob slowly. I really do regret not having the guts to tell Cam everything straight away, I mean, what if this stray wolf is the wolf I saw yesterday?

I walk into the house, closing the door behind me, dropping my keys off at the table near the front door. I head straight towards the kitchen, I really need a drink.

I head over to the fridge and get out the ice tea, grabbing a glass cup from the cupboard on the way back to the kitchen table. I sit them down onto the table and suddenly feel dizzy, I don't even know what happened, maybe I just got up too quickly? I slowly pour some tea into the glass as I think about what actually happened yesterday.

As I sit down on a chair, I hear an almighty BANG! I jump, spilling some of my tea in the process. I raise my hand up to my chest, clutching it, I swear to god that just gave me a heart attack.

I jump out of my seat and walk over to the window that faces the rest of the town. I peer through, seeing people fleeing and running away. I frown, grabbing my glass and throwing the rest of it down my throat, only to choak on it at the end.

I cough and splutter then head over to the coatshanger near the door, grabbing my jacket and scooping up my keys as I walk past them. I walk rapidly out of the house, slamming the door shut behind me as I head down the stairs and out of the gate.

I shrug my jacket on as I walked around the side of the house and to where the town is, there hasn't been any more bangs so it must have been by accident but me being me, I am naturally curious. I walk against the tide of people who are running away, trying to get away from whatever it is.

Soon enough, I run into the commotion, there is some sort of fight going on between some of Cam's guards and some wolf. I scan my eyes over the scene and suddenly I see Cam struggling to get back up from where he lay all battered against a wall.

"CAM!" I scream, his eyes suddenly landing on mine, they look dark, full of pain. I start to run towards him but a guard must have mistaken me for a enemy as he sliced me with his sword. I scream out in pain and crumple to the ground because of the searing pain that is surging through my leg.

The guard stands over me, the tip of his blade resting right under my chin, threatening to slice me open again.

"No, please. I'm innocent, I didn't do anything!" I yelp guickly, my voice cracking because of the pain. I dare not swallow or the blade might cut my neck open.
