Another Class Trial

I walked into the main room with Tomi and Satchiko, my worry growing stronger by the second. I had no idea if we would be able to find the killer this time, and thinking of what happened at the last trial, I could only hope that wouldn't happen again.

Everyone began filing into the room, and to my surprise, Itsuki ran in with tears in his eyes. He came straight to me and clung to my arm fearfully. "A-Aki, I'm s-scared! I d-don't wanna do this!" Aki?

I was confused at first, until I remembered what he had told me. This wasn't Itsuki, it was Eiichi.

"Hey, don't worry, it'll be fine." I said, trying to reassure him with a fake smile to mask my own concern. "You'll be fine, we have lots of clues so I'm sure we'll find the right killer!"

Eiichi seemed to calm down a bit, but kept clinging to me. "R-really?"

I nodded. "Yeah, it'll be okay." I could only hope I wasn't lying.

The entrance to the trial room opened in front of us once again, and one by one we headed down the dreaded staircase. Once we got to the bottom, everyone split up to stand at their own podiums, and I stood at mine. Now is when I could really feel the missing presence of the four people that stood here before.

Chou was sitting in her seat like last time, and seeing her in person again, my thoughts immediately went back to that morning. My face was growing warm again, and there was no way for me to stop it.

Chou snickered, and I could feel her golden gaze on me. "Okie dokie, let's get this started already! Go ahead and discuss what you found!"

"Well, there weren't any wounds..." Kazuki stated with a frown. "It didn't look like there was any struggle either. It's like Itami-san just dropped dead."

"I can think of a few causes, but Ikeda-chan," Toki looked straight at me. "Did you find anything in the weapon room?"

I nodded. "Yeah, Uyeda-kun showed me this secret cupboard thing with a bunch of poisons. One was half full."

Aimi spoke next, her violet gaze drifting over to Tomi. "How'd you find those poisons?"

Tomi only shrugged. "I was feeling around on the walls and just happened to find a secret cupboard. It wasn't hard, I found it the first day."

"Doesn't that make you suspicious...?" Willow asked, tilting her head a bit.

"Let's wait for more evidence before accusing someone." Toki stated, "We at least know the cause of death now. Mitsuo Itami was poisoned."

"You sure?" Aimi narrowed her eyes a bit. "I'd think someone would notice if the killer slipped something into his food. We all eat together, and only one meal a day."

"S-someone could've been... s-sneaky enough..." Nise muttered, looking at the ground. "B-but if he w-was poisoned a-at the meal, i-it could've been a-anyone...."

"R-remember, Itami-san was killed past midnight." Satchiko said, "Could he really have been p-poisoned at the meal?"

"What if it was a slow acting poison?" Willow suggested, "I don't think he could've been poisoned at any other time... there's nothing else to eat."

Toki had a thoughtful look before she turned to me once more. "Ikeda-chan, what kind of poison was it?"

"I don't know, there wasn't a label on that one... but it was in a small glass container and was yellow." I explained.

"I don't think that changes much... the meal is still the only food we get..." Willow said once again.

"Think of how the body was positioned." Toki said, looking around at each person. "Did it look like Mitsuo had been in pain? To me, it looked like he had simply been grabbing a book from the shelf. There was one on the ground after all."

"What's your point?" Aimi asked, tilting her head.

"The victim could've been poisoned seconds before his death."
