- Dancing Heart -

As we stepped into the busy ice cream shop, Katie immediately runs over to the ice cream display.

"Do you know what you want?" Cameron asked me as he reaches into his pocket for his wallet.

"Wow, you're being considerate. That's a first."

"For your information, I was worried about seats. I was going to get the ice cream while you save us a spot because I don't feel like dealing with two kids who can't handle eating their ice cream standing up."

"Excuse me! I am not a kid. The only kid here is you," I say, trying to defend myself and Katie.

"Okay okay, so what do you want Cassy?"

I make a quick note that he once again, used my nickname. I quickly look at the wall above the ice cream display that had the list of ice creams that they offered.

"Just get me chocolate chip cookie dough," I tell him, spotting my favourite flavour. I then start walking away from him to find us somewhere to sit.

Luckily, I spotted a few empty booths near the back of the ice cream shop. No one is eating their ice cream standing up today!

As I slide into the empty booth, Katie starts walking over and sits down across from me.

I smile at her and asked her which ice cream flavor she decided on.

"I picked honey avocado," She tells me excitedly.

Honey avocado ice cream? That actually exists? I look on the wall to see that their special of the day is indeed, honey avocado.

"My brother and I always come here after we moved from California." Katie brings my attention back to her as she explains to me how they would come here often. "I never get the same flavour when I come here. My brother doesn't like that I do that because I just end up eating all of his. It's not my fault the one I wanted to try didn't taste as good as his."

I laugh as she tells me this. It's cute that Cameron would let his little sister have his ice cream.

I'm curious which one Cameron would get. "Well what does your brother normally get then?"

"He always gets cookies and cream. He sticks to the same one because he says that he only likes that one. I think that he's silly and just afraid to try different things."

I'm surprised that Cameron always gets the same thing. He just strikes me as someone who would be more spontaneous like his sister. I mean that should not even surprise me at this point. The fact that his little sister is my student and that he takes her out to get ice cream at the very same place where he is currently buying me ice cream, is very shocking. I had absolutely no idea that this day was going to go like this. Ever since I met Cameron last week, my life has gotten way more interesting.

While Katie was in the middle of telling me a story about the time she dropped her ice cream on Cameron's shoe, he walks up to our booth with three ice cream cones in hand. I see that he did indeed get cookies and cream.

"Okay one honey avocado for you." He interrupted as he passes the ice cream cone to Katie.

He then turns to me, "One chocolate chip cookie dough for Cassy." He gives me a small smile as he gives me my ice cream cone.

As I reach to grab it, our fingers touch and I felt little shocks of electricity shoot through the tips of my fingers. I close my fingers back the moment it happened and I notice that his grip on the cone tightened slightly.

Whoa. I'm a huge nerd and I read a lot of books. You can say I'm in love with the idea of love. I've only read about the whole electricity thing and I've always thought it was an exaggeration. I didn't believe that it happens. I just thought it was fiction. However, whatever just happened, it felt real.

Without giving me any more time to think about what had just happened, Cameron extends his arm to bring the ice cream cone closer to me. The smile that was once on his face was gone and he was no longer looking at me.

"Uh thanks." I take the ice cream from him as he sits down next to me.

As if things weren't awkward enough, he just had to sit next to me. I try my best not to look at him while I enjoy my ice cream.

Completely unaware of what happened only seconds ago, Katie looks up from her ice cream cone and asks Cameron if she could have his instead.

"Really Katie? I told you that you wouldn't like it." He sighed as he passes her his.

Katie's face immediately brightens up as she takes her brother's ice cream. "Thanks Cam Cam!"

I almost choked on my ice cream from laughing.

"Cam Cam?" I look at Cameron with a smirk on my face.

"You do not get to call me that." He points at me with a serious look on his face.

"Whatever you say, Cam Cam." I retaliated with a smile on my face. That's for all the times he purposely called me Cassy.

After Katie was done her ice cream, she left to go to the washroom. I took a glance over at Cameron to see that he was still trying to finish his sister's unusual order.

"It was nice of you to do that for your sister." I comment when he makes a disgusted face as he takes another bite of the ice cream. "You know, giving her your ice cream when she didn't like her's." I clarify.

"Yeah, I always get the same one knowing it's her favourite and that she'll just end up hating whatever strange flavor she decided to pick that day."

"You really can be caring." I say, genuinely surprised.

"Yep, you just gotta know me better first." He winks and finishes off the last of his ice cream.

"So that's what happened." I said as I finish telling Sam exactly what happened.

"I seriously can't believe that happened." She says, coming out of her closet holding two dresses.

I point to the dress on the right and mutter, "I can't either." I watch my best friend retreat into her washroom.

After we left the ice cream shop, Cameron drove me back to the dance studio where I got back into my own car. I drove over to Sam's house, as planned, to help her get ready for her date with Jake. I told her everything that happened including the moment that Cameron and I had.

"As much as you deny liking him, all these signs are showing a different message." She yells from behind the closed washroom door.

"What does that even mean?" I shout back. I laid down on her comfortable bed, trying to calm my mind so I can understand her better. There are no signs. It's all just a big coincidence.

She shrugs as she comes out of her washroom, wearing the dress that I chose. "I don't know but maybe it's like fate or something. You guys are just meant to be and the world is just trying to tell you to get over your irrational hatred towards him."

"It's not irrational!" I justify to her as I sit back up.

I have good reasons to hate him. Not to mention that my life is at stake with Amanda's threat to stay away from him. So far I'm not doing too well. I'll be dead in the next month at this rate.

"It kind of is," She continues to put on her shoes as she answers me.

"Whose side are you on?"

"The winning side." She tells me as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. I roll my eyes when she continues her little speech. "With all the stuff that's happened so far, I'd say you guys are meant to be."

"Your judgement hasn't always been the best." I point out, remembering her past boyfriends.

"Whatever, don't trust me. But like I said last night, don't come running to me when you have nothing to wear for your first date. Unless maybe, it's to praise me for how I was right." She winks at me as reaches for her purse on the bed.

Since I'm closer to her purse, I take it and throw it at her. "That is never going to happen."

Sam bends down to pick up her purse that I unsuccessfully tried to aim at her. "Hey! Don't take your anger out on my purse."

"Well I'm going to leave now." I look at the time on my phone. "He's going to be here in ten minutes." I get off Sam's bed and walk over to her to hug her. "You look beautiful, as always. Have fun, be safe, and tell me all about it afterwards."

I'm sitting at the back of my English classroom, getting my notebook out, as I see Cameron and Amanda walk in together. I was up late last night thinking about the feeling of when our fingers touched. It's probably why I had to apply more concealer under my eyes this morning. I try my hardest to block out the sound of Amanda's voice but it's pretty much impossible. Luckily, the bell goes, causing most of the class to quiet down.

Cameron decides to sit in the desk next to me like he always does, instead of being with Amanda and her crew.

"So I had fun yesterday." He whispers to me as he leans his body closer to me.

"Really?" I turn my head to look at him. I was not expecting him to say that at all. If I was being honest, I had an alright time, but I was not going to admit it to anyone since I'm having a hard enough time accepting the fact as it is.

"Nah, I was just trying to make my sister happy. You can pay me back the four dollars later." He pats me on the shoulder and I roll my eyes.

Now I'm short four dollars. I turn back towards the front of the classroom and return my gaze back down at my notebooks. Maybe if I ignore him long enough, he'll disappear.

"I'm just kidding Cassy. Lighten up. Can't you take a joke?"

He doesn't think I can take a joke? I literally have to deal with him basically everyday. He's a joke himself.

"I really hate you," I spit out as I try to control my anger.

"Can I help you Miss. Wilson?" Mr. Walker's voice snaps me out of my irritation towards Cameron.

I look around the classroom. I did not notice that everyone was silent and that Mr. Walker had come in.

Embarrassingly, I apologize, and Mr. Walker starts introducing the lesson to the class. Never in my life had I ever been called out by my teacher for something like this. It's all thanks to Cameron.

"Thanks a lot Cameron." I whisper harshly to him as I start copying down some notes that are on the board.

"My pleasure." He responds quietly as he takes one of my pens out of my pencil case.

While we are eating lunch, Nick starts asking Sam about how her date. From what Sam told me last night, she had an amazing time.

"It was great. Jake took me out to dinner. It was a simple date but I had fun." She tells him with the biggest smile on her face.

I'm happy for my best friend. She's finally able recover from her breakup with Chris. I haven't seen her the way she is now ever since her breakup.

I turn my attention away from Sam and focus it on Nick. "So, how was your football practice last night?"

At my mention of football practice, a frown appeared on Nick's face. "Well it was going great until the new guy came. He asked coach if he could try out," He takes a bite out of his burger when he finished talking.

I suddenly remember Cameron mentioning how he did football at his old school on his first day here. "Can he even do that? I mean, you guys had tryouts during summer. Plus the team already had a lot of practices."

"He said he had a lot of experience so I think coach is thinking about it."

"Speaking of Cameron," Sam chimes in with a devious smile on her face. "Cassy and Cameron went out on a date yesterday!"

"What? Seriously Cassy?" Nick turns to me with shock and anger written all over his face.

I'm taken aback by how much it affected him. "No, calm down we didn't go on a date," I reassured him quickly while giving Sam a look, telling her to stop talking.

Completely ignoring the look I gave her, she continues, "I'm pretty sure it was a date."

"It wasn't. I just went out to get ice cream with him and his sister. Turns out his sister is one of my dance students that I teach on Sundays." I clear up for Nick who is still quite upset with the news.

"I thought you were going to stay away from him." He puts down his burger and sighs.

"I am, but I had no choice! His sister really wanted me to go and I couldn't say no." I explained quickly to him.

"Cas you always have a choice." Obviously disappointed with my answer, he stands up from the cafeteria chair.

"Nick, relax why are you so mad about this?" Sam asked him, clearly also realizing how angry he was.

"Relax? This guy is no good. I just don't want to see Cassy get hurt again." He says while picking up his lunch.

It's sweet how much Nick cares about me and I really appreciate it. However, I just don't really understand why he's so mad. Nothing happened between Cameron and I.

"I'll catch up with you guys later." He mutters a goodbye and starts walking over to his football buddies.

"What has gotten into him lately?" Sam asked me as we both watch our friend walk away from us.

Whatever it is, it's getting out of control. Ever since Cameron arrived at this school, Nick has been acting stranger than normal. With everything that has happened during the party and at the movie theater, I'm worried about what could happen if Cameron ends up on the football team.
