- Dancing Heart -

"Bye Cassandra! Have a good day at work."

I looked back to my mom in the kitchen who was making a chocolate cake for my younger sister's fifteenth birthday party later tonight.

"Thanks mom. See you tonight," I called back to her and grabbed my car keys and dance bag then headed out to the car. Once I got inside the family car, my phone rang.

"Hello?" I answered while putting my bag on the passenger seat.

"Cassy! Hey, what are you up to?"

"Sam, it's eight thirty in the morning on a Sunday, what do you think I'm up to? Running a marathon?"

I laugh at my forgetful best friend since grade four.

"Oh right! I forgot! My bad. Well have fun at your first day of your job as the brand new dance teacher. So we're still on for the whole first day of school outfit shopping after your done right? Our first day is tomorrow and I still haven't found the perfect outfit!"

I roll my eyes. Sam is a cheerleader which makes her quite popular at Haltwood High School and it still shocks me that we are still friends since I'm definitely not as popular as she is. I'm usually the girl that doesn't talk in class and keeps to herself.

"Yeah Sam, I'll meet you there at three o'clock. I got to go before I'm late. See you later."

I put my phone back in my bag then drove over to the dance studio.

I opened the door to my dance room and put my bag down on the table. I hear a knock on the door and look behind me to see my boss and the woman who owns the dance studio that I've danced in since I was three and will now also be teaching at, Linda, smiling at me with excitement in her blue eyes.

"Hey Cassandra. Are you ready for your first day?"

She walked over to me handing over a white binder that she was carrying.

"Yeah I'm excited and nervous at the same time," I replied while taking the binder from her and opening it.

"It's just your class schedules and class attendances, nothing too exciting. Well I'll let you get ready, the kids should be arriving soon. It's almost nine o'clock. Good luck!" She waved back at me while walking back to the door.

"Thanks Linda!"

I walked back to the table and looked through the class schedules which show that I'm teaching five ballet classes to little kids which are each an hour long which means I will end at two giving me an hour until I need to meet Sam. Once I finished getting everything set up for the dance class, I walked over to the door where I could hear a bunch of loud kids who were excited about dance class. I was pretty nervous considering it was my first time teaching kids how to dance and not to mention having to look after kids for a whole day. But it's a job that pays and dancing is something that I love doing so I pulled my long blonde hair into a bun, looked into the mirror telling myself that I can do this and opened the door.

I looked at the clock. 1:58. I gather the last class of six year olds near the door getting ready to dismiss them. My first day went pretty well, nobody died or anything and to me, that already was a big achievement. The kids went out of the dance room to their parents but one of my students' parents haven't arrived yet which means I still need to stay behind even though all I wanted to do was go home and take a nap since I was already so exhausted.

"Well Katie, it's just you and me left. How was your first dance class?" I asked the cute little girl with her brown hair done in a perfect and neat bun.

She looked up at me with a big smile on her face and replied excitedly,

"It was so much fun Miss Cassy! I can't wait for the next class!"

"Katie, sorry I'm late, I had to stop by the office." A woman with the same brown hair as Katie that was curled to perfection and wore an office outfit appeared at the door. Katie ran up to her while I slowly walked over to the door.

"It's no big deal I understand. Katie did very well today. I'm her teacher, Ms. Cassandra." I explained to Katie's mom.

"It's nice to meet you, I'm Katie's mom, Elena Miller. We've got a lot of things to do today so we will see you next week."

"Bye Ms. Cassy!" Katie yelled back to me while her mom was rushing her out of the dance studio.

"What do you think about this dress?"

I look up from my phone to Sam who was holding a sky blue dress. We have been at the mall for three hours and Sam still did not find her perfect first day of school outfit.

"Sam, it looks great just like the other fifty things you showed me." I sighed and looked back down at my phone.

"You don't understand. My outfit can't look great, it needs to look fantastic! I need to show Chris what he's missing."

Chris was Sam's boyfriend for two years but they broke up before summer break because Chris said he needed some "space". Turns out Chris just wanted to hook up with more girls because a week into summer, Sam already showed me tons of pictures of Chris hanging out at parties with different girls every night on his trip in Mexico. I keep hoping Sam would just move on but she just can't let go of Chris and clearly wants to get him back.

"Cassy, why don't you try the dress? I think you would look great in it and besides, I don't think you are going to turn heads with what you were originally going to wear." Sam handed me the dress and pushed me into the fitting rooms.

"There is nothing wrong with just wearing jeans and a nice white top on the first day of school Sam!" I yelled to her behind the wooden door of the fitting room. I slipped on the dress and looked in the mirror. I gotta admit, it was a nice dress and it didn't look to bad on me. It was simple and casual, pretty good for school. I opened the fitting room door to show Sam.

"You look amazing! You definitely have to buy it!" Sam walked closer to me and looked at the price tag. She looked back up at me and squealed. "You're even lucky, the dress is on sale for twenty dollars!"

"Fine, I'll get it..but only if you pick up your outfit in the next thirty minutes because I really need to get back home for my sister's birthday," I replied and walked back into the fitting room closing the door behind me.

"Alright you have a deal! I'll drop by your house to say happy birthday to Desiree as well!"

I started walking to my front door with my shopping bag and Sam right behind me. Sticking to the deal she made, she was able to pick up her outfit for tomorrow right after I came out of the fitting room which meant that I had bought the blue dress. I unlocked the door and saw my mom putting the birthday cake on the dining table.

"Oh hi girls! How was your shopping trip?" asked my mom once we walked in.

"Hey Mrs. Wilson! It was great, we both picked up fabulous outfits for tomorrow!" Sam replied while walking over to the dining table to sit down on one of the chairs.

I rolled my eyes, "Yeah it took three hours though."

"Stop complaining I know you had fun! You were with me after all."

I went over to Sam and sat next to her placing my bag on the table.

"Wow you got me something else for my birthday? You shouldn't have." Desiree and her two other friends walked into the kitchen and looked at my shopping bag.

"I didn't. This is for me." I grabbed the shopping bag before she could come any closer.

Sam laughed while getting up from her chair and hugged Desiree, "Happy birthday Des!"

After singing Happy Birthday and eating cake, Sam left, so I just went up to my room to get away from my sister and her loud annoying friends. It was already ten thirty so I decided to get ready for bed. After brushing my teeth, I hung up my brand new dress that I would wear to school tomorrow. Hopefully my last year of high school will be a good one.
