Chapter Nineteen
Are ya'll liking the lighter tone right now ?
Izuku leaned his head against the window and focused on the large buildings passing by. Dawn had not broken yet and all that resided behind the car was darkness. Midoryia had not said a word since he had gotten in the vehicle. Ochaco was in the back of the vehicle with the messy-haired boy and studied him as he zoned off. She stared at his emotionless reflection in the mirror and the girl nudged his arm. Izuku turned his head and looked at the girl, and Uraraka beamed him a bright smile. "I didn't bring you along just so you could brood."
Izuku wrinkled his brow and tried to formulate a solid defense."I-I do not brood."
"Yes you do."
"No I don't."
"Yes you do."
"How do I brood ?", questioned Izuku with crossed arms and his lips in a straight line.
"I'll show you so we can brood together." The girl then stopped smiling and put on an angry face. Ochaco crinkled her brow, narrowed her eyebrows, crossed her arms, and went,"Grrr."
Midoryia turned his head away from the silly girl."I wouldn't have came if I knew you were gonna be a jerk." Deku then kiddingly mumbled,"Meanie."
"You're gonna have to speak up Deku; I can't hear you over my brooding."
"Guess what."
"What ?"
"I'm not pushing you around anymore."
"Oh really."
"Nope, you're going to have to find someone else to put up with you."
.....
The car stopped and Deku was out cold in Ochaco's lap. The pair had gotten bored on the way to her hometown and the girl had the bright idea to tie Izuku's thick, fluffy green hair up. Uraraka was still absent-mindedly running her hands through the boy's hair when the door swung open. In the drive way stood Ochaco's mother and there was a small smile on the women's face. A pink tinge spread across Ochaco's face and the girl let out a loud yelp. The sound woke Midoryia up and when he shot up his head hit the roof of the war."Ow," complained the boy as he rubbed his head."Where are we ?"
"Our home," explained Mrs. Uraraka before she walked away.
As Izuku scooted out of the car he swiveled to face his friend."I though you said you would be gentle with my hair ?"
"I would have if you weren't so busy runin' that mouth of yours earlier."
"Whatever," exhaled Izuku.
The green-haired boy opened the back hatch of the silver car and pulled out his dark suitcase. As he picked up the luggage he began to realize that he may have overpacked. Midoryia then seized Ochaco's wheelchair and unfolded the contraption. Deku walked over to the girl's side of the car and opened the door. The girl looked behind her to see Deku and flipped out of the car. Izuku said in a panic,"Uraraka !" But his worries subsided when the girl began to float in the air above him.
The brunette giggled,"I may not be walkin', but that doesn't mean I can't still use my quirk."
Izuku let out a sigh and rubbed the back of his head."Sorry, you just haven't used it in so long."
The girl floating slowly ascended above the car and began to swim past Izuku, and as she travel past him she deactivated her quirk and landed on his back. She caught herself by wrapping her arms around his neck and shouted,"Onward servant !", as she pointed an arm towards the door to her home.
.....
Izuku walked up the stairs with the girl atop his back and both their luggage in his hands. Uraraka popped her door open from behind Deku and the boy pushed it open with his foot. He then carried the girl into the pink room and positioned her over bed. Uraraka fell onto the small, pink comforter and bounced into the air and only emphasized the jump by activating her quirk."You should carry me everywhere."
Izuku placed both the bags on the carpeted floor and looked up at the girl floating above him. Their eyes locked as he spoke."I think you have a wheelchair for a reason ?" Izuku then began to examine the room surrounding them. The place was quite pink and vibrant, much like Ochaco. The ceiling was peppered with cheap, glow in the dark sticker starts. And her wall was rather plain asided form the few posters of Thirteen. Deku then turned around and walked towards the small wooden dresser next to her closet.Midoryia looked down at the photos of the girl and her family and smiled, but the baby photo of the girl was rather heartwarming. He picked up the photo and flashed it to the girl."You cheeks were so big !"
"Stop !", cried Uraraka as she covered her face and began to float even higher. Deku jumped in the air and grabbed her by the ankle.
"You're going to hit your head if you don't stop."
The rosy-cheeked girl deactivated her fascinating power and allowed for gravity to take its toll on her. She hit the mattress and flopped onto the bed face first."Can you not make fun of me."
Regret flashed across Deku's freckled face at her request."M-Make fun of y-you ?"
The girl nodded as she buried her face into her floral printed pillow."I hate my round cheeks."
"Really !"
"Uh huh," said the girl, but her words were muffled by the pillow that was currently devouring her cute face.
Izuku a light blush crept across the boy's face as he gave her his opinion on the matter." I've always kinda thought they were adorable."
"Really !", squeaked the teenage girl.
"Yeah, plus you wouldn't be you without them, they're like you signature thing."
Ochaco smiled as she poked fun at Izuku."Like your brooding ?"
Midoryia chuckled,"Yes, like my brooding."
.....
Izuku sat at the square table and played with the beef in his bowl. A clearing of a throat caught his attention and he looked up to see Mr. Uraraka. The father then made a request."Could you tell us about yourself Midoryia ?"
Izuku gave everyone an awkward smile and pulled on the collar of his plain shirt."Uhh...well, I like broccoli."
The bearded man looked at the kid and let out a comical laugh."What am I suppose to do with that !" The man's wife then jabbed him with her knee."What I mean is who are you ?"
Deku shrugged at the man and gave Mr. Uraraka an unsure face."I-I don't really know the answer to that; life has thrown me a lot of curve balls."
"So there is nothin' you can tell me ?"
"N-"
Ochaco butted into the conversation."He's bein' an idiot daddy. Deku isn't exactly the best with praise. And almost anyone that has met him would tell ya he's heroic."
"I already figured that cause he did save my baby girl."
"Save is a strong word," frowned Deku.
"Nonsense, if this guy really is bad as everyone has made him out to be than you did as much as humanly possible."
Izuku stayed quiet and began to chew on his food. He wanted to get off of the somber topic and Mrs. Uraraka came to the rescue."So how did ya'll become friends ?"
Ochaco wanted to answer this question badly. She explained for minutes about how she met the boy and how much of a downer he was at first, but then she got into everything he had done. The middle-aged woman then asked another question."Do you have any family Izuku ?"
Izuku let out a puff of air."Not really, my m-mother passed a few years back and my dad- well I've never met the guy."
The brown-eyed woman spouted a fast apology."I'm so sorry, I-I didn't mean to open old wounds."
Izuku waved his hand at the woman as he assured her,"It's alright."
.....
Ochaco laid in her bed and stared at the glowing stars on her ceiling. The girl had been thinking about what Deku said about his mother and couldn't help but feel worried for he friend. She had never asked about it, and she wanted to be there. The kind girl rolled over and looked down at the boy on the inflatable mattress below her bed. Midoryia was looking at the stary ceiling much like his best friends was mere moments ago. Uraraka quietly whispered,"Deku are ya awake."
"Yeah, just down here."
"Are ya okay."
Deku looked up at the girl and gave her a perplexed expression."Why wouldn't I be ?"
"Cause...you were talkin' about your momma earlier and you sounded really lonely."
Deku made a strange sound with his lips before responding."I was, but not anymore."
"Not anymore ?"
"Nope, I've got you now." The boy then let out a tired yawn."You should go to sleep cause we've got to work on getting you back on your feet."
Ochaco listened to the boy and rolled back over and tried to comfortably situate herself, but she couldn't stop thinking about Izuku's words. She could not fathom she really meant that much to the boy.
I'm having a lot of fun writing this story right now.
