Chapter 5 ~Percy~

I stepped into the cafeteria, just like any other day. Walking up my usual table, I plopped my bag down on the ground.

"I'm telling you, she's super cool! Looks kinda evil, with her heavy black eyeshadow, and stormy grey eyes, but she's really cool! Smart too." Leo was apparently trying to convince my best friend Jason of something.

"Who are we talking about?" I asked as I sat down.

"Her." Leo pointed his fork at the cafeteria doors. I looked up, and almost stopped breathing. It was her. The girl I kept seeing in my dreams. I didn't know her name, or anything about her for that matter.

"Gods, her eyes look incredible!" I heard Piper McLean, Jason's girlfriend, whisper. I saw Luke get up and walk towards her, say something to her, and then turn and lead her back to his table. As they walked, the girl looked around the cafeteria, and for a second our eyes locked. Then Luke stopped moving, and she looked away. As I watched them sit down, I heard Hazel Levesque mutter under her breath, "I hope Luke doesn't do anything stupid."

I turned my attention back to my friends and the conversations started back up again. I think all of them centered around the upcoming football game. The guys were talking about plays, and the girls were talking about the cheerleading performance they were going to be putting on. I drifted in and out of the conversation, periodically looked over at Luke's table. It seemed like the girl was having fun.

All too soon, the bell rang, and Luke's gang dispersed. I watched as Silena lead the girl out of the cafeteria. I sighed and picked up my bag.

"Come on, Leo. Let's go." Leo and I had our next class together. Art was always my favorite part of the day. I felt like I could freely express myself in art class. That, and being with my gang of weirdos. There's a very good chance that we might possibly be insane, but we love it.

"Right behind you, Aquaman!" I gave Leo a glare, but he only smirked.

When we reached the Art room, Leo said something stupid, and I was almost doubled over with laughter.

I was actually laughing so hard that I almost ran into Silena, who was walking out of the classroom.

"Sorry about that," I muttered under my breath as I side-stepped her. I stepped into the classroom and it almost felt like I got punched in the gut.

The new girl is standing right there. I get the feeling that she's going to be in our class. Then she looks at me, and I'm just like, Whoa. Her eyes are a startling grey, but with all the black eye makeup she's wearing, they almost seem silver.

"Come on, Fish Boy. Let's go get our projects." Leo's voice snapped me back to reality.

"Yeah." I walked over to the bookshelves lining the wall, and pull out a canvas, several paints, a few brushes, and a pallet. When I'm done, I turned around to look for a place to sit. Most of the tables are full, and I don't see Leo. He's probably in the back where the woodworking tools are. Then I spotted the new girl. She's sitting alone. My feet move like they have a mind of their own. When I reach the table, I can hear myself say "Can I sit here?"

The girl looks up, and once again I'm lost in her grey eyes.

"Sure." That's all she says as she scoots over to make a little more room for me. I sat down and looked over at what she was doing. I couldn't tell what it was, but it was really good!

"What kind of art do you like?" I felt kinda stupid and awkward.

"Sketching." She didn't even look up from her work. I was honestly kinda disappointed. I wanted to see her eyes again.

I pulled out my pencil, and started to sketch out a scene on my canvas. My hands moved like they weren't connected to my brain. I watched as an ocean scene began to appear, then a city rose up. It looked like an underwater kingdom. But the coolest part was that the structural design was Greek. It seemed like it could be the Greek god Poseidon's kingdom. Once I finished the sketch, I started to add color. I loved the way the blues and greens blended together to create that under water effect. By the time the bell rang, my painting looked worthy of the gods themselves.

The girl looked over at my artwork and gasped.

"Whoa! That's really good!" Her eyes shone with admiration. I looked over at her sketch. It was intriguing, yet disturbing at the same time. A skeleton was playing a piano, with words flowing out of its mouth. I couldn't tell what they were exactly, but then I noticed the shading she had done. The drawing was done on creme paper, so the shading really stood out.

"Wow. Your's is really good too!" I was thoroughly impressed. The girl blushed, and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. I noticed she had two piercings on her ear. One was a silver owl, and the other was a black skull. It was pretty cool, if I was being honest with myself.

"I'm Percy, by the way." I stuck my hand out. The girl looked at it, and after a moment's hesitation, she extended her own hand. I grasped it.

"I'm Annabeth."
